But there's no evidence racial slurs WERE yelled at him. Not by a group chanting " n*****!", over and over.

THAT'S THE POINT! The video of Cleaver getting 'spit on' certanily raises doubts as to the credibility of Lewis, ON THIS MATTER.

There's no denying his legacy, and the trials he endured. But , and I hate to say it, I think it's legitimate to question whether or not he's living off the past, and playing the race card.

No evidence? Just a black man saying so. And as we know, that doesn't count.

Fortunately, there were white people who witnessed and verified the incident. And since Breitbart posted the wrong video, I would think that should bring Brietbart's credibility in to question on this issue. But we all know what a big double standard you carry with you, Rappy. One of those double standards has to do with race. Another has to do with political affiliation. A third has to do with income level.

Hmm. Now that you made me think about it, I'm gonna expand on my previous post: Not only are you a racist, you're one of the more generally prejudiced people on this board.

you continue to fail, miserably! You've not shown ANY racism on my part, even remotely! Where is the bigotry? SHOW IT!

Breitbart showed exactly the RIGHT videos, and that's what pisses you off so god damn much! Every one there back tracked from their prior claims, once the spitting vid showed there was no such event. Cleaver, Shuler both retracted on what they CLAIMED happened. This has become troll city for you children on the Left. Stick your fingers in your ears, shut your eyes tightly, & nah-nah-nah as loud as you can , to avoid reality.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Wow, what a snark fest! I agree with Dmaan; I checked in here thinking it was further discussion of the topic; what a waste! Dmaan, they get something out of it; damned if I know what, but otherwise they wouldn’t waste their time. I either respond to or snark back at people like Crappy, but after one or two posts, I have better things to do.

I find it interesting, however, to discover Crappy is on at least one other forum, spouting his usual. What kind of work does he DO, I wonder (knowing he won’t say) that he’s got so much time to spend spewing his wad? Very interesting. And a quick check shows others are right, he seems much more comfortable SHOWING his racism, etc., on the other forum.

On the other hand, tho' I know it'll do no good, here you go Crappy:
Quote:

Our old friend, the disgraced and disgraceful ACORN "Pimp" Hoax con-man Andrew Breitbart, is up to the same old tricks, according to AP. But this time they don't seem to be going as well for him.

In a deceptive effort to prove that Tea Baggers did not yell racial epithets at Democratic lawmakers during demonstrations against health insurance reform last month, Breitbart posted "VIDEO PROOF" from a different moment during those protests, the news service has found.

http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7800
Quote:

Report: Breitbart used 'wrong video' to claim Dem lawmakers lied about racial slurs

For weeks, an argument has been raging between liberal and conservative commentators over whether or not Tea Party protesters yelled racist and homophobic slurs at Democratic lawmakers on the day the House passed the health care overhaul.

To back up his claim, Breitbart posted a short video clip of Reps. Lewis and Cleaver, among others, walking through the protest with no racial slurs audible on the video.

But an article from the Associated Press says the video Breitbart trumpeted was not shot at the time the black lawmakers say they were targeted with the N-word; rather, the video was shot an hour later, as the group emerged from a congressional meeting. They had alleged that they were targeted as they were walking into the meeting.

Asked by AP about the inconsistency, Breitbart responded, "I'm not saying the video was conclusive proof."

http://rawstory.com/rs/2010/0413/ap-factchecks-breitbart-loses/
Quote:

Three Democratic congressmen — all black — say they heard racial slurs as they walked through thousands of angry protesters outside the U.S. Capitol. A white lawmaker says he heard the epithets too. Conservative activists say the lawmakers are lying.

What does the video show? Not much. Indeed, new interviews show that a much-viewed YouTube recording cited as evidence by conservatives was actually shot well after the time in question

A reconstruction of the events shows that the conservative challenges largely sprang from a mislabeled video that was shot later in the day.

Breitbart posted two columns on his Web site saying the claims were fabricated. Both led with a 48-second YouTube video showing Lewis, Carson, other Congressional Black Caucus members and staffers leaving the Capitol. Some of the group were videotaping the booing crowd.

But the 48-second video was shot as the group was leaving the Capitol — at least one hour after Lewis, D-Ga., and Carson walked to the Capitol, which is when they said the slurs were used.

Questioned about using a video on his Web site from the wrong moment, Breitbart stood by his claim that the lawmakers were lying.

"I'm not saying the video was conclusive proof," he said.

http://timesnews.net/article.php?id=9022177

So if you want to keep on insisting a video shows there was no slur, you'll have to find a video taken at the RIGHT TIME that shows it. Even Breitbart admits it's not "conclusive" proof, tho' he tried to pretend it was initially.

Additionally, Obama has CUT taxes, he has not increased them even once. Do you need cites on THAT as well? Saying he WILL raise taxes has no relevance; once/if he does, it will have relevance.

In an interview on Tuesday with FOX 4 News, Rep. Cleaver would not directly answer the question of whether or not he was intentionally spit upon.

“I haven’t talked about this incident on TV or anywhere, and I’ve been approached to talk about it on every national TV show,” said Rep. Cleaver in an interview with FOX 4 News. “I never, I never reported anything, never a single thing in Washington, not one thing. People assume I went somewhere, never done press conference, never done an interview on it and I’m not going to do it.”

The "spitting incident" has been discussed and should have been dismissed by now. It was no doubt "enthusiastic yelling" which resulted in spittle. No doubt someone ran with it, but Cleaver has made it abundantly clear HE is not making the charge. End of story.

The video, however, is another matter. Who posted “Breitbart showed exactly the RIGHT videos”? If it was Crappy, then he’s not owning up to making a remark which has been proven false. Either way, it’s obvious from numerous articles that Breitbart WAS trying to use the video as evidence, until it was discovered that it was taken an hour later, then claimed it wasn’t “proof”. Why put up the video in the first place, but to make a point? Irregardless, the whole thing is stupid. Given the anger; that others heard it; that Breitbart tried via fraud to prove it hadn’t happened, and the fact that it was a while ago, logic says it happened, nobody can prove one way or the other, and it’s yesterday’s news.

Crappy, you’re consistently saying others don’t want to discuss the issues, but rather dodge and hurl epithets. The above is the very first time I’VE ever seen you post a cite..if that was you. So until you back up your statements with cites proving them as fact, you’re not discussing or debating, you’re just throwing out opinions without any backup. That’s what debate IS, you see; backing up your statements. Ergo, from here on when you make claims you can’t back up, I’m gonna give you back what you toss out: “Quit making up shit. Either show some evidence or admit you can't”. Sauce for the goose, you know... and given you spout but don’t show facts, your claim that OTHERS (who have posted quotes and cites) “dodge” is hereby

No, you see Rep. Cleaver first jump back, as the guy was shouting right in his ear. ( Cleaver was looking away, and the man in the hat wasn't directing his shouts to any ONE particular member of Congress, but the group in general ) Rep. Cleaver takes a few steps first, and then you see him, almost as an after thought, wipe the side of his face. He had time to "collect" himself and put on a show for the crowd. You'll note he didn't immediately wipe his face, which is what would have been an involuntary action.

Breitbart has claimed, in no uncertain terms, that the N-word was never said at that rally that day. As such, it's HIS burden to prove that it was NEVER said that day. His claim, his burden.

I can post up video of me not running a particular red light, but that doesn't mean I've NEVER run one, does it? Likewise, Breitbart's already-debunked video showing a group NOT using the N-word is no proof that it was never shouted that day at that rally.

We've gone over this so many times, yet you are singularly unable to get it through your god damned thick skull: Absence of proof is not proof of absence. That no one has posted video YET is no proof that the incident never happened. Maybe it didn't come out on video, or maybe they're holding out for more money! :)

You have no case; you never have, except for that harsh case of having your head jammed up your ass.

Crappy, you're playing semantics and trying to make your case with illogical reasoning. As to the video and what Breitbart claimed, he DID claim it was proof initially that the charges were false, made a big deal out of it, then backed up when it was proven to have been taken an hour after the incident.

We realize you want to believe it didn't happen, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Given the recorded phone messages to Black politicians and those who were recorded having NO problem using the word, and given the heated situation, it's more likely it did happen than it did not. But nobody can argue one way or the other with certainty. THAT is the truth.

As to the spitting incident, it IS old news, but I'll clarify it for you from Cleaver's own office:
Quote:

In the quote described, the Congressman is saying he did not hold a press conference, did not issue a release, has continually declined interview requests from both O'Reilly and Matthews. Had another office not spoken about the matter thus prompting requests for our office to confirm, we wouldn't have even issued that statement to the media we did. Had he had his way-no one would have known about this incident.

The man was detained after the incident was reported to Capitol Police (upon entering the Complex). Sgt. Kimberly Schneider has confirmed the man was brought in and the Congressman declined to identify him, knowing what would happen if he did. In the context of his interview he was trying to say he didn't want to make it a big deal. He said reported. But he is talking about reporting the incident to the press. Clearly the detention of the man would indicate the Capitol police were told of the incident. I understand that the added scrutiny of this unfortunate episode means that every word is picked apart. I am confident follow up with the local reporter would reveal that, as the story headline indicates, the Congressman continues to try and not talk about the issue, blame anyone or use the incident for anything other than to talk about the need for both parties to practice civility.

Hope that helps and thanks again for the request. Despite every effort our office has made to downplay the incident — it still hangs around. As your blog fairly states, and unlike many commentators on both sides, we have never characterized what was in the mans mind, and do not know if it was on purpose or and accident and will not speculate. People make mistakes, which is why the Congressman has declined to pursue the matter further.

http://thegrimcreeper.newsvine.com/_news/2010/04/05/4118583-democrat-c
leaver-says-he-never-reported-being-spat-on

The best bet is that someone assumed it was deliberate, maybe even Cleaver at the time, but HE never reported to the public that he was spat upon.

As to your interpretation of what happened, I'm sure logic won't bother you but here it is: If someone yelled in my ear and I jumped back, startled, then went on walking and felt moisture on my face, THAT's when it would occur to me to wipe it off. “Involuntary movement” would have been jumping back from someone yelling in my ear, and it would have been a few seconds before I noticed anything, much less tiny droplets of moisture, not a glob of "spit”. Since your argument is that it was inadvertent spittle, his not noticing it immediately BACKS your claim that it wasn’t a deliberate “spit”. You want to see him putting on a show...if he had been spat upon, yes, he WOULD have noticed it almost immediately...so the video backs your argument.

You want what you believe of both incidents to be true so badly you're trying to find anything you can grasp at to explain your point of view. I understand that. But it doesn’t wash; nobody can know the truth, tho’ I have no question that you’ll insist YOU can.

As to Cleaver, what you quoted is exactly what his office explained: “I haven’t talked about this incident on TV or anywhere, and I’ve been approached to talk about it on every national TV show. I never, I never reported anything, never a single thing in Washington, not one thing. People assume I went somewhere, never done press conference, never done an interview on it and I’m not going to do it.” Unless you’re you, it’s obvious he’s saying over and over that he didn’t CLAIM it to the public, as in speak to a reporter or give an interview.

There is no sense continuing to try and make you see the facts, logic has no place in your world, apparently. You’ve got one of the worst cases of RWA here, and it’s a real shame.

High RWAs particularly had trouble figuring out that an inference or deduction was wrong. If the conclusion is right, they figure, then the reasoning must have been right. Or to put it another way, they don’t “get it” that the reasoning matters.

If authoritarian followers like the conclusion, the logic involved is pretty irrelevant. The reasoning should justify the conclusion, but for a lot of high RWAs, the conclusion validates the reasoning. Such is the basis of many a prejudice, and many a Big Lie that comes to be accepted. In general high RWAs seem to have more trouble than most people do realizing that a conclusion is false. Deductive logic aside, authoritarians also have trouble deciding whether empirical evidence proves, or does not prove, something. They will often think some thoroughly ambiguous fact verifies something they already believe in.

That pretty much sums up both these situations, so I’ll leave you to your o-so-desperately-held conclusions.

Exactly. If the tea-bagging fucknuts are pissed off, then we must be doing the right things!

By the way, Zit, is that the kind of "good ole' fashion game" you guys on the right like to play? Guess that would explain Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, Larry Craig, and others! this whole conversation reminds me of a video made by Roosterteeth: "Real-life vs. the internet." the name's fairly self-explanatory.

in one scene that relates to this whole topic is "Discussing Politics": where in real-life people would hear each other's opinions and disagree they would remain (mostly) civil through the conversation, on the internet they simply attack one another and say how "you're ruining the country!" or "things were great before". what is it about the anonymity of the internet that basically removes all respect for anyone out there? is it the fact that you can't hear or see the person essentially dehumanise them making it easy to say whatever pops into your head?

or as the deaf say: "fuck you, fuck the lot-o'-yas"

As opposed to dmaan's posts, which are right on topic and attack no one.

Oh wait...

Hey dmaan, there are plenty of sites where you can get nothing but an echo. The beauty of this place (besides that whole Firefly thing) is that we DO disagree, and generally go about it without hurting each other. Even with all the time wasted for silly kindergarten I-know-you-are exchanges, there's a lot to be learned.

You know... if you try. Really than appearing from the clouds and issuing profound decries such as:

Whatzit truly DOES make Crappy seem civilized and polite...and even puts the rest of them in a better light. I didn't think that was possible. The self-hatred is sad to see, you're right, but the lashing out, fake titles to blame Olbermann and just plain filth kinda makes it hard to pity him, even for me. I work at it tho'.

Yup, well said and I think you've got it. There are myriad articles about how the dehumanization of the internet makes people behave in ways they wouldn't dream of in real life, where they might be held accountable.

It's made me wonder at times just what Crappy and his cronies are like in real life. Especially PN, if he wandered around talking like he writes, he wouldn't be around to bother us for long. And the Village Idiot would have been killed off long ago. These are people not worth anyone's time, except to observe under a microscope and wonder how the hell they cope in the REAL world.

But, hey, Dmaan, "you're ruining the country!" or "things were great before" is the cry from the RIGHT, liberally (pardon the wording) sprinkled with hate and visceral terminology. So I would guess you were describing them exclusively, if I didn't know that more than a few of us (sometimes including myself) give into the same kind of "reparte" and lash back.

Most of the time I don't post any different than I would talk to anyone in real life. If that's true for them, as well, jeezus criste, what must life in their world be like???

Niki, that's why I will take the time to try jackin some sense into folks like Wulf, who it's mostly, but not quite completely, wasted on... but when it comes to Homo Cranioferrous like some of em, I don't even acknowledge their existence save for the very occasional offhanded verbal backhand.

PN, on the other hand, despite being our resident Cloudcuckoolander...

Does often incidentally raise stuff worth discussin, if you can manage to pay his ranting no mind while we do it, heh - plus I have reasons for my tolerance, some of which I've recently mentioned, and have on more than one occasion been able to cut through the crazy and have various semi-reasonable discussions with him.

Besides, I think he adds a little something, a certain element of tabloid wackiness which, viewed in a certain light, makes him the next best thing to the official RWED court jester.

Not to say he doesn't offend/annoy me too on many an occasion, but free speech is IMHO, worth such annoyances.

Yeah, Niki, you can snark with the best of em, don't deny it LOL! I like snark. Definitely it is what draws me to Joss - the snarky dialogue is the thing he can do like no other. Name-calling? Not so cool with that. It does happen though, with that whole internet thing.

I have to admit to liking the freedom. Internet is, for me, a safe place to try being more forward (that's a nicer name for it ) than I would in real life. I challenge people and dismiss them when they prove themselves dismiss-able. I surely wouldn't do that to a person I have to encounter every day.

Anonymity may lead to assholery, but I think it's got its good side too. I would never have been exposed to lots of ideas without it, and I've had my own thinking challenged in ways I might never have otherwise. People are so guarded in real life. It's useful to lose the restraints.

Mike, sigh, "making a crack", "being snarky". The difference to me is it wasn't intended as a nasty or personal remark... "So I would guess you were describing them exclusively, if I didn't know that more than a few of us (sometimes including myself) give into the same kind of "reparte" and lash back." If you read that as a snark, then we define the word differently.

I also said, you'll note, "sometimes including myself" AND "Most of the time I don't post any different than I would talk to anyone in real life". And Mal, you know perfectly well that I have freely admitted I snark along with everyone else, I've never once said or acted like I DON'T. So go snark someone else, you two...
