Jon Stewart ripped FauxNews bautifully for extolling Reagan on nuclear weapons while attacking Obama for wanting the same thing as Reagan, who, with START I reduced our nuclear arms by 1/3 too:

Quote:

Ronald Reagan, once said that nuclear weapons were "totally irrational, totally inhumane, good for nothing but killing, possibly destructive of life on earth and civilization." Indeed, while he irked his detractors for years over a seemingly endless arms buildup, Reagan was, by his own telling, firmly committed to the abolition of nuclear weapons.

"[F]or the eight years I was president," he wrote in his memoirs, "I never let my dream of a nuclear-free world fade from my mind."

The Day After influenced Reagan to the point that he told the directed how much it influenced him. Reagan lived in a time when the right-wing hawks like Newt Gingrich and Jack Abramoff and Grover Norquist were spreading fearmongering lies to scare Americans into voting for Ronald. They even said that Soviet spies had infiltrated our government, so the paranoia around Russia was very, very high. The movie, however, changed the way Ronald Reagan perceived nuclear arms:

For someone like Reagan to realize the death and destruction nuclear weapons can cause should have taught people like Rudy a lesson, but everything that comes out from most of the right wing these days has no basis in reality. They speak only for the purpose of scoring cheap political points.

Reagan wrote in his diary that the film "left me greatly depressed," and that it changed his mind on the prevailing policy on a "nuclear war".[2] In 1987 during the era of Mikhail Gorbachev's glasnost and perestroika reforms, the film was shown on Soviet television. During the signing of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty at Reykjavik, Meyer received a telegram from President Reagan that said, 'Don't think your movie didn't have any part of this, because it did.'

Please show exactly what 'details' Stewart omitted, or prove that Reagan WASN'T against nuclear reduction...

...or show that this is incorrect (from Reagan's own mouth): http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#36243327 ...

...or go back to your fantasy world and live happily in ignorance and let the adults discuss the issues...

The truth is that FauxNews DID omit the truth about the 'reservations' in the treaty...or didn't you bother to watch the video or read the text (most likely answer).

A) He's not funny enough to consider a "comic".

B) Since when has he given us "news", or even an adult, realistic post?

Shees...

FauxNews pundits also remarked at Obama's "disarming" of America with this treaty, since it would leave us *ONLY* 1550 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) warheads. How are we ever supposed to defend ourselves with fewer than two thousand ICBMs?! I mean, if we can't hit another continent halfway 'round the world any more than one thousand, five hundred and fifty times with high-yield multi-megaton-range warheads, we may as well just lay down arms and surrender right now! ;)

Yup. We need those nukes as a "deterrent", remember? It deters any other nuclear country from being bombed off the face of the earth, after they've bombed US off the face of the earth, and we've both bombed civilization off the face of the earth. Deterrence is a GOOD thing...I think...isn't it?

Yup. Just watched a segment on the news where they took that movie to Pakistan and showed it to a bunch of school kids. They asked them initially if Pakistan should keep its nukes, and the kids said the same old saw about "deterrence".

The looks on their faces while watching was really telling. After they watched the movie, every single child had changed their minds; they all said it's a no-win situation and nukes should be gotten rid of, but several said they still didn't want Pakistan to be without nukes because it kept them "safe". The mentality is hard to shift, obviously. I'm glad it affected Reagan the way it did, and I'm grateful Obama's following his lead (which is amusing, given all the hullabaloo on the right!).

Tough to convince people--apparently that movie was shown in schools in the '80s while, when I was in school, we were taught the "under your desk" idiocy. The world changes, albeit not nearly fast enough!!

Yeah, I grew up under the old "Duck & Cover" doctrine, too. It was weird - living in Taiwan, we didn't get the same drills everyone else seemed to (the people stateside, anyway): Our air-raid drills were often accompanied by sonic booms as U.S. fighter/interceptors blasted over the island, apparently to add "realism" and enhance the fear felt by the kids. Probably explains why all the way up until the collapse of the Berlin Wall, I was utterly, 100%, no-doubt-about-it convinced that we WOULD find ourselves in a nuclear conflict with the Soviet Union.

Not far removed from that "terror scale" Dumbya created and used to good effect. Why scare the pants off people who are impotent if/when something ACTUALLY happens??

I was loading nukes on supersonic bombers when he said that on live radio. But in England, US nukes were targeted at US troops and US allies in West Germany, none were targeted at Commie Russia.

It was all a scam, just like "Obama".

Demented Reagan never ran anything, since Bush Sr's cousin shot him 2 months into his treasonous co-presidency, making Bush Sr prez for the next 12 years. Reagan failed to recognize his own adopted son at his HS graduation, and spent his years in the White House watching TV and following orders from his astrologer.

The NWO fascist global dictatorship will never run out of nukes, including false-flag "terror" nukes. USA must be disarmed of nukes in order to crush it into 3rd world oblivion.

The fact is that Reagan turned from his previous agenda to nuclear disarmament and worked with Russia to destroy nukes. I know you adore to focus the earlier scenario PN, but we all know about you.

Just like Palin and her ilk, you want to live in your own deluded world, however incorrect it may be. Not to mention being a sick fuck.

Life must be awfully lonely...or else you're surrounded by people as sick as you.

Well, if your first statement is true, then the second statement actually makes complete sense, and the USA really *SHOULD* be disarmed of nukes!

Argued yourself into a nice little corner there, dintchya?

I think the saddest part of it all for me, after reading her story, is that I never heard of her. :( My heart always breaks just a little bit more when I find out about someone wonderful who died, who I never knew.

There's a movie, "Amazing Grace and Chuck", that I'm fairly sure this little girl helped to inspire. If you've never seen it, do. I think you'd like it, Frem.

Nor will he. Nor did he read the text, or he MIGHT have understod it (tho' that's doubtful).

Nope, Crappy's mentality is easy to spot: "Obama compared to Reagan?!? MUST be a lie!"

It's merely inconceivable to his teeeny little brain that anyone could compare anything on the left to the Great God Reagan in any positve way, so he just looks at the title and maybe first line, then reacts.
