Follow The Leader. Or subvert the leader.

Why is is it that we get in religion a Jesus, a Buddha or a Ghandi, in popular entertainment a Kubrick or a Whedon, in martial arts a Lee, in politics a Goldwater, or in music a Beethoven or Beatles only to dilute their works into a force for selling stuff or diverting the way of the public good?

Memory is short. Profit can be long. Status quo must be maintained.

Thoughts on my late-nite ramblings?

Ghandi is not a religious figure.

Don't dare compare the Moptops to Beethoven. Hendrix...maybe.

What you drinking tonight, Chris?

Why?

And Jesus wasn't a religious figure until a bunch of crackpots started following him around. Gandhi's at least as qualified...

Because that is what people are trained and conditioned to do, straight out of the cradle, by parents, by schools, by our social, legal, and political systems.

Don't think, you'll go insane.
Don't question, you'll be a heretic.
Don't create, you'll just be sued.
Don't stand up, you'll be hammered down.
Don't innovate, you'll also get sued.
Don't defend yourself, you'll go to jail.

On and on, from the cradle to the grave, don't do this, don't do that, color within the lines, shut up, sit down and OBEY, dammit, or else.

And that's the real problem... "or else."

Cause when someone DOES one of them things, they get "made an example of" - and it don't take too many of them to get the message across, to see your peers that dared to not toe the line get beaten, locked up, or even "transferred" aka "disappeared", or more recently medicated into a freakin zombie with that dull glazed look and their brains all but dripping out there ears, and you don't want that to happen to YOU do you ?

So sit down, shut up and OBEY... or else.

And so on and so forth, for three generations and then what do you expect, Chris - once the guard rails are so firmly in place, who's gonna dare to leave the track and go offroading, really, it isn't even a fear instinct anymore so much as it is so utterly beyond their comprehension to even saw away the rails and invite them to do so brings the same reaction as telling them they could breathe water, stunned disbelief, fear of the unknown, and recoiling in horror from the dirty heretic before they get contaminated with guilt by association, don't ya know...

Even music these days, much of modern pop is actually "written" by expert system programs which mash up, grind to pablum and then regurgitate a collection of what has been most "popular" (read: economically profitable) over the past 25 years, watering it down enough to make sure it offends none and doesn't risk a lawsuit from the most litigous folk on the planet, all the while searching each others "product" like a hawk for some combination of sounds THEY could sue over - and it don't stop there, cause some of that drivel is even "sung" by expert system AI's (see also: vocaloid) and thus any actual HUMAN involvement is on the corporate end.

But it ain't over yet, and long as me and mine are still suckin air, it ain't gonna be.

"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats."
H.L. Mencken.

And of course, to even SAY that provokes ire, to stand and deliver with intent to do it, even worse, but be damned to all of em, I say.

"Sign sign, everywhere a sign, blockin out the scenery breakin my mind, do this, don't do that, can't you read the siiign..."

Yeah, right, ok, fine... I gotta sign for ya, boy do I ever!

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Why do we accept watered down versions of the original ?

Why do we buy Rollexx watches, or Guci handbags ?

Because it's easier.

Because it's cheaper.

Because some folks don't know any better, or are hoping the rest of us don't.

Dunno.

Maybe the signal gets weaker, the further away it gets from the source.
