While too damn busy to get into the details presently, looks like a boot might be headed up the CIA's ass after all.

Reyes and Tierney particularly are angry as hell at having been blatantly and maliciously lied to - since Congress cannot do it's job properly without truthful, accurate information, something which the alphabet boys would not know if you beat em over the head with it.

AND, by selecting only those members previously cleared for this information (i.e. leaked hard evidence of the unspecified lies in question) no one gets in trouble for wilding classified info - which given the things that *for the moment* must be talked around instead of about, gives the various news blurbs an almost PNish feel.

Panetta Tells Lawmakers CIA Misled Congress Post-2001
http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20090709/pl_bloomberg/avp991mwyfpe

Initially Boehner and Hoekstra thought this was the usual tapdance ass covering by Pelosi (and some of it was, sure) and discarded it, till Reyes apparently shared the leaked info with em, and now they're *pissed* at being played for patsies once again by our so-called national security people.

Gonna be fun feeding ammo to a certain debate today, cause of this.. and I really, REALLY do need to get back to that.

fun fun fun.

KWICKO

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Yup, this IS going to get interesting. It's not lost on me that probably the ONLY reason any of this is even coming out, or even being brought up, is because Pelosi was dragged into it by the right, in a desperate "If-you-investigate-us-we'll-smear-shit-on-you" move - which seems to have worked!

I've got no love for Pelosi. My feeling has been, from the outset, regardless of what she says, INVESTIGATE THIS SHIT, and let the truth take you wherever it goes. If that means that Pelosi is found to have been briefed and lied about that, then she's toast, and good riddance to bad rubbish. If it means that the CIA is found to have been lying, then someone gets to fall on their sword. Don't worry, Leon, "this is a good death," as they say. "You've done good works here." Except, he hasn't.

Thing is, the CIA has already been caught red-handed in at least ONE lie regarding these alleged briefings. The former Congressman with all the little notebooks filled with every piece of minutia from his day(s) has already produced his notes, receipts, ticket stubs, etc., showing that on at least a few occasions when the CIA claims he was in on the briefing, he wasn't even anywhere near Washington! They've even acknowledged the lie, saying it was their "mistake". So they've definitely lost credibility on that score already.

Now Pinetta says they didn't "fully" brief Congress about things they were supposed to, but he's sure that didn't include not briefing them about waterboarding. Or in other words, to put it in phraseology that Alberto "Fredo" Gonzalez could understand, they weren't necessarily lying, but they weren't telling the truth, either.

I *HOPE* somebody loses their goddam job over this mess. I think Pinetta will be the one who caps it, but I'd be happier seeing Pelosi go bye-bye. Maybe Sarah Palin still has some room on her fishing boat if Nancy wants to tag along. My bet is the boat comes back lighter in the water, though...

Oh, and by the way, good to see ya back, Frem! I was beginning to worry about you.

Umm, the whole rendition-waterboarding thing is a side issue, mikey - it just happens to be the one single facet that isn't completely friggin classified, and all parties know where that stands both publicly and privately.

This is OTHER, deeper shit they've lied about, and considering the stated timeline (as in starting in nov-dec 2001, before rendition and waterboarding was even an ISSUE), which is all I can legally get away with telling you, it hints at a can of worms which can turn quickly into a can of whoopass should the truth of matters ever really come out.

"If the people knew what we had done, they would chase us down the street and lynch us."
- George HW Bush.

I have to tread carefully for the moment given the dirty business of handling info I ain't even supposed to have, you understand.

As for the rest, I am busy Mikey, and will continue to be - any chance to head off the ugly has long since been pissed away by those without the courage to act, or so wrapped up in their own rabid partisanship they helped it right along, neither collective of which will see a pence of mercy or tolerance from us.

For your own, see to yourself, food, water, ammo, basic medkit and resources/trade goods where you can lay hand to em at need, general SOP.

I disgree with that whole "don't argue - don't provoke them" bullshit myself, cause if not on the spot, armed, able and free - then WHEN ?
When you're imprisoned, disarmed and helpess ?
Fekk that.

One hopes it doesn't come to that, but barring some miracle of fortune, history will repeat itself, and I am no longer too damn concerned about the health and well being of folk who didn't stand when it counted, yes ?

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I was puzzled by your response to Panetta. As often happens when the "new guy" is put in charge, information from all the nooks and crannies takes a while to trickle up, so Panetta prolly only found out about this secret program recently.

As seems to be the case.

Two threads of information are coming together:

One is that Bush's program went FAR beyond warrantless wiretapping. The other is that Cheney kept lots of info from Congress. I would imagine that it could involve CIA activity in the USA (illegal). Heard credible stories about various activists- even people just attending rallies (animal rights, anti-NAFTA etc) having GPS locating devices installed on their cars. Nixon at one time used spy satellites to track antiwar activists, and the IRS to harass them. Could even be a surveillance system installed in Congress and some blackmail against various members. Manipulation of the news. Election fraud.

There should be hell to pay. But it a fallacy to imagine when people know the awful truth they'll rise up en masse. The problem is, most people in the USA are so browbeaten and propagandized, they'll have all the reaction of a cooling corpse.

Which is what they'll end up - thanks in great part TO their failure to investigate, self-educate, or stand up in any meaningful way.

Do you think I feel sympathy for them NOW, at the very last, when there's no remaining way to really stop the train ?

Do you think I really care for the folks who've been shouting down folks like me, pointing the wall we're about to hit out to em, and all the while demanding to go faster ?

They had their chance.
