'...The vials contained some dangerous pathogens, among them the Ebola virus, anthrax bacteria and botulinum toxin, and less lethal agents such as Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus and the bacterium that causes tularemia. Most of them, forgotten inside freezer drawers, hadn't been used in years or even decades. Officials said some serum samples from hemorrhagic fever patients dated to the Korean War.'

Paging Doctor Philip Zack, paging doctor Zack...

Despite all the FBI attempts to frame us Hatfill or Ivins, I can tell you with absolute certainty the material in question is in the possession of Zack and his accomplice Doc Rippy, or at least was on the evening of Jan 23rd 1992.

You all DO know that we have his ass ON VIDEOTAPE entering the area the samples were taken from, after he had already been fired for a racially motivated attack on a co-worker, right ?

Justin Raimondo does a serious muck raking of the whole event here.
http://www.antiwar.com/justin/j022202.html

Like almost every since act of terrorism in the last twenty years, alla this shit can be directly laid at the feet of those supposedly "protecting" us from us - cause if they didn't HAVE those samples to take...
(illegally, in violation of US Law, Military Law, and several treaties which as you are aware carry Constitutional force behind em)
And if they had actually kept them secure...
(as in not completely ignoring BSL-3/4 and actually having the decent damn sense to remove the access of folks who were under investigation/fired/had a big damn axe to grind)
And then hadn't spent every ounce of effort trying to pin it on Hatfill or Ivins despite KNOWING it was Zack, cause no one wants to upset the pathetic little whinebaby that is Israel by suggesting that Jewish folk can be dickheads just as much as any other...

And then hadn't swept it under the rug after being forced to exonerate Hatfill and pay him damages of six million (your tax dollars, folks, to cover the intentional screwups of your "protectors") - and then the suicide of Ivins, which cost us a promising researcher and provided a handy scapegoat conveniently no longer able to speak in his own defense...
(Or bitch about the labs piss poor security, another plus, right ?)

Well then, this threat would be non-existent, wouldn't it ?

Again, the gravest threat to our national security...
is our National Security.

What's it gonna take to convince america they need to arclight Quantico and Langey if they wanna protect america from terrorists ?

Hell, I think it was even more petty than that - they just didn't want to admit that they'd fucked up, so they decided to try to frame Hatfill.

And I don't care what they pay Hatfill, his name's still mud on most circles. No matter what he does, his name will be associated with the anthrax attacks, and for no damn reason at all, except that he was convenient and the truth was embarrassing.

What I don't understand is this statement

" But some scientists are skeptical. Unlike uranium or chemical weapons, pathogens are living materials that can replicate and die. A small amount can easily be turned into a large amount. They said the strict inventories slow their work without guaranteeing security. "

While I have never worked in the Chemical or Bio Tech fields, it is my understand that documenting ALL WORK is part and parcel to the scientific process.

In addition I would think the documentation and storage of biologicals would be paramount in that over time and conditions some organisms degrade etc. I would think that logs of what is stored as well as the condition it was stored in ( temp, vacuum, light, etc ) would be kept. If not degradation, or mutation of the sample might occur without data to explain it.

Unless their work is not research, but production or weaponization where mass amounts of material is produced and refined.....

But hey, that would be against treatys the United States has signed right?

But hey..... the US invades other countrys for suspected treaty violations.... Not themselves

See, when THEY do it, it's because they hate our freedoms.

When WE do it, it's called "patriotism".

I trust it's clear as mud now?

I don't do theory - I find the hell out.

Remember, we got that bastard Zack on tape going in there, and coming out, AFTER he'd been fired.

And since everyone BUT him has practically had a microscope up their arse lookin for those samples (before they admitted publicly they were missing) that leaves only one person, does it not ?

Oh, yeah, and when you hire independent contractors to dredge a local lake and scare the crap out of them by tellin em what they're lookin for, they TALK, yanno ?

Ain't just that they're evil, it's that they are INCOMPETENTLY evil, and that's even worse...

Keep the Shiny side up

Reading the article, it seems to me that they weren't 'missing' vials of pathogens at all. Instead, they actually found 9,200 more than their records indicated they had. Some they found were over 50 years old.

And people doubted Saddams record keeping in the same area ?

One, it is bad science

Two, it is dangerous

True. If 9,200 vials of pathogens can hide out for 50+ years at a secure facility like Ft. Detrick, who knows what could still be floating around loose in a disorganized country the size of Iraq?
