No, they could just show me. There's a claim of a control panel, then prove it. Or STFU and go drink more vodka. Either works fine for me.

Maybe it was Mr Tesla doing those harmonic experiments in New York City. He almost knocked down a building and the Brooklyn Bridge. I'm just saying.

Either way, a few hours later, and that blast would have been over Moscow. How human history may have changed if THAT happened ?

HERO

Maybe the UFO was about to attack when it was hit by the meteor.

Maybe the UFO was towing the meteor with the intent of using said rock as a kinetic energy weapon against the Tsar when an accident caused them to collide.

Maybe it was a giant cube and a malevolent evil robot who both fell to earth and were later placed inside the Hoover Dam for safe keeping.

Maybe God sneezed.

The possibilities are endless.

Yeah. Bolsheviks might not have taken over, but then again, that many Russians lost, the Germans might have beaten Russia when they invaded in WWII, and might have been able to turn their full attention on Britain and America.

I don't think Germany could have beaten America, to be honest, the only capability they had for crossing the Atlantic ocean were a couple flying boat/sea plane prototypes. And their population was too small to support much further fighting. But we might have declared a truce, and Eurasia might be under Nazi and Japanese control right now.

They didn't HAVE the capability, but they were certainly working on it, as early as 1940, in the form of the Focke-Wulf FW 300 Amerika bomber, a bomber which was being developed with the express intent of being able to reach the United States from Germany, drop a 4.5 ton bomb load (or a nuclear weapon, which was also under development) along the Eastern seaboard, and return to Germany without refueling.

Had Germany not been preoccupied with the Russians, there is little doubt that this aircraft would have finished development and been deployed in large numbers.

Here's a pic of the smaller FW 200 Kondor.

Speaking as an astronomer, and on a sci-fi board I seem to do that often, the Tungusta Event is commonally held in circles of academia to have been a comet impact.

Comets contain mostly ice and dust, as opposed to meteors which are rocky objects. When a chuck of space rock hits the planet, an impact crater is left behind, as an example I submit crater lake.

A comet however is much more susceptible to the atmo of earth. Rocky objects can survive the trip to the surface, ice vaporizes. This is why there was no crater at the Tungusta site in 1908 and no debris. The comet collided with the earth's atmo and exploded into a fireball that slammed down into the tundra of siberia scorching trees but leaving no minuta behind. Modern astronomers now believe that the comet in question is an object discovered in 2005 called 2005NB56. When the comet was discovered and scienists ran the clock backwards they discovered that it passed VVEERRYY close to earth in 1908 from a direction that would have presented itself to siberia. The working theory is that 2005NB56 exists in several pieces, a common comet trait, and that one of these smaller bodies passed too close to earth and was pulled down while the others continued on their path around the sun. It will make another near pass to earth in 2045.

Carl Sagan touches on the Tungusta event in his 1980 opus Cosmos, which resides on my DVD library shelf in a place of honor. Numfar! Do the dance of honor for Sagan!

The way I'd heard a cometary impact with atmo described, the comet (or any large body, really, but comets are more susceptible to the heat and pressure, so tend to explode in airbursts) barrels into the atmosphere, heating itself AND the air around it as it comes in, and ALSO pushing a large column of air ahead of it, which is being compressed at around 17,000mph and thus further heated, AND building up pressure, until the comet (or rock) is overcome with heat and pressure and explodes like a bomb - sometimes like a very large nuclear bomb! - in an "airburst" event like an ICBM coming in.

And believe it or not, it's actually BETTER if this happens above land, since if it were water it might lead to enormous tsunamis, incredible rainstorms caused by the heating of the atmosphere and the vaporization of huge quantities of water from the ocean when the explosion lets rip - water which then comes down as rain, in amounts you wouldn't believe. Raining cats and dogs? How about raining boiled shark? :)
