Apparently someone took it into their heads to illustrate just how taser-happy cops are in the Detroit and suburban areas, coming on the hells of a couple noteable incidents...

And no, it wasn't me! - though heaven knows my phones been ringing with folks thinking so.

Mich. police shock cougar _ a toy one _ with Taser
WARREN, Mich. (AP) -- Police responding to a 911 caller reporting a cougar on the prowl in a suburban Detroit park saw what looked like the big cat hiding in a discarded section of cement drain pipe.

So Warren police on Monday shot a Taser electroshock weapon - hitting what turned out to be a large toy cougar right in the stuffing.

The Detroit Free Press reports the toy apparently was placed in the pipe as a hoax. About 10 officers responded to Bates Park. The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports the caller said it was a 150-pound cat.

Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer says the department is "out there to keep the community safe."

This week's incident took place about a month after a 16-year-old from Detroit died after a Taser was used by Warren police to subdue him.

One has to ask, since they bagged him and he's already pre-stuffed, are they gonna mount him ?

Kind of ironic cause we DO occasionally get the odd sizeable wild cat around here, one local township has some largish cat running around who no one seems inclined to mess with as the local high school team is named after one and the locals consider it a sign of good fortune.

MI response to local wildlife as a whole is generally a live and let live policy, long as it stays off the highway - at which point unless it's big enough to disable the vehicle, the poor critter is just shit out of luck, Ka-THUNK!

Site three has two raccoons, a young possum, several fatass red squirrels the old ladies are apparently feeding to death, a flock of bats, a pair of feral former housecats, one owl who sits on top of bldg #5 and bitches half the night, three small male rabbits, one large female rabbit, a fox and one former groundhog who's now pushin up the daisies after pissing off maintainence one too many times.

They're all prettymuch acclimated to my quiet presence, and actually serve as an early warning system since they'll go into defensive behavior if there is someone wandering outside after dark.
