They published the pic today of this poor woman who's husband shot her face off with a shotgun. I'm sure the surgeons did amazing work, but jeeeesh, didn't they have a "blueprint" available for what a face should look like? This reminds me of how the Talosians fixed up the wreck survivor Vina in The Menagerie...everything worked, but they had never seen a human being before. I suppose if it had been ME, I would be grateful for their efforts and glad to be alive with any face.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

It gets better with time. The first face transplant looked really droopy too, but after a year she had normal expression and skin tightness. The nerves now need to enervate the muscles. Once that happens and surgeons get an idea of how much skin she's going to need for normal movement they will remove the baggy skin at her jawline. Admittedly tho, right now she looks like Jabba the Hut.

We should have strapped him into a glider, filled it nose heavy w/ explosives, and dropped his Allah lovin' ass into a large, empty field. After which, release wild boars into the area so they could make good use of his remains. Now THAT's justice.- rappy

Yeah, that's what Sheikh Issa said. Seems you both have a lot in common.- signy

Yeah, it swells up somethin awful for a while too - I have some small repair work of that nature myself, that and a pin in the left ankle thanks to an extremely sustained brawl with a couple religiously intolerant folk who really truly meant to kill me, one of them fights where the "winner" crawls away and the runners up wind up in the trauma ward.

Wasn't as bad as the guy in the next bed over though, they had to like, lift his whole face and move it over, or something like that from what I could gather, and man his head looked about like a beach ball there for a while.

I got off lucky, the only remaining visible hint is that my nose is off but just barely enough to notice if you look close and happen to be a vain bastard about it...

There was a lady on one of them talk shows a while back who's features were just about destroyed, I don't remember the cause but it looked like burn damage, and my heart went out to her cause I know something of what it's like to be forever "unwelcome" in our twisted little society - damned if I can remember her name or the show, since I don't normally watch TV and caught it on someone elses, but I do remember the lady.

If I ever wind up like that tho, I think I'll go doctor doom about it - I already look enough like the friggin terminator as it is with that leg of mine, wore shorts to go get the mail today and someones kid called me that, which tickled my funnybone quite a bit.

As for this lady, way I see it, if you're still kickin, you're still winnin, when it comes right down to it.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the whole story, it makes me feel a lot better.

This is truly the age of science I saw in movies as a kid. How she survived to even see this day is a miracle.

BUT- wtf is going on w/the legal system???? Her POS husband got SEVEN YEARS!?!?!?!? For attempted MURDER!?!?!?!!?If he confessed to it, why not help him finish the job he started on himself? He obviously wanted out- give it to his poor soul!

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"When somebody has a disfigurement and don't look as pretty as you do, don't judge them, because you never know what happened to them," she said. "Don't judge people who don't look the same as you do. Because you never know. One day it might be all taken away."

And she put on make-up. GOOD FOR HER !

Others may not see her as the worthwhile person she is - but SHE still does. HOORAY !

America loves a winner!

How is her nose so spot on perfect, and the rest of her face so utterly distorted ?

Wow.

I'm glad she's alive and kicking, but every time I see her, I keep thinking of Total Recall, and I expect her to say "Get ready for a SURPRI-ISE!" - and then Arnold steps out of her body...

Seriously, though - she's alive, and she's getting better. That's a good thing.
