Could it be... dementia?

I bet his pissed off relative will try to block the hospital stealing $600,000.

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

At 93 I doubt he was gonna affect the gene pool, so Darwin hardly enters into it.

My understanding was that he failed to understand that the bill had not been paid, and that there was an electronic device which would block his heat.

I think for all the browncoats there is a moral to this story: Do not leave your life up to an automated system. Electric heat is very nice, but if you can't power it yourself, have another means of surviving the cold.

This WWII vet did not understand the bill was not paid, and it was sitting on the kitchen table with $600 cash clipped to it. He had only resided in this house for about 60 years.
He was not informed that his heat would be removed (in the north, it's against the law to remove heat in winter for failure to pay the bill).

The City Manager, who made the decision to turn off ("RESTRICT") his heat, said it was not the City's (which is the Utility here) responsibility but the NEIGHBOR's responsibility - but nobody informed the neighbors that they were cutting off his heat, either. This man needs to get a prison boyfriend ASAP.

Darwin has nothing to do with it, so this demetia case is a non-candidate. Darwin Awards require that the subject's genes have not entered the gene pool.

Jenny's gonna chew someones ass on this one, that's for sure.

Although a rarity here, Baltimore Gas&Electric was notorious for it, hell, if you paid your bill so much as a day late, and forgot to add in the late fee, they'd cut ya off without notice the very same DAY - and no, I'm not kidding cause I got into that near fatal accident a couple days before the bill was due, and mere *HOURS* after I finally got home, in no condition whatever to even move, the girl I was with caught one of their goons setting up to cut the freakin power, despite the fact that the bill was due that day, and that day wasn't exactly OVER yet...

A couple threats and a fistfull of cash for a signed reciept sent him packin, but seriously BG&E kills quite a few elderly folk every year the same way - and I suspect they're not the only utility company that does, since they're all prettymuch unaccountable monopolies.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it
