No, it's not a continuation of a theme, following up on my "Zombie" post from last week (by the way, NONE of my co-workers had heard a thing about the Zombie sign right here in our own town. It made the freaking national news, people! And it's high-larious to boot!)

S'wennyways, I'm going to be a bit of a ghost around here for a bit. Actually, I already have been, for a while now. I moved, so I'm still without internet, although I do have TV (a big ol' flat-screen TV just looks funny with rabbit-ears attached, though!). Until I get hooked back up to The World (that's what I call my cable, because I'm such a news junkie), I'll only be on for very limited amounts of time, such as a few minutes on my lunch hour.

Plus, there's all that stuff to unpack. Yeeesh. Who knew one could accumulate so much stuff? I foresee a huge yard sale in my immediate future! I already sold one of my beloved Hondas - the CRX I used to race. Posted it to a local racing group, got a "SOLD!" notice on the first reply. Guy didn't even quibble about the price, just came over and dropped a fat wad of cash in my hand. Maybe I didn't ask enough for it... Ah, well; such is life. Must move on.

Signing off (for now),

Mike

I couldn't be stranger if I tried...

(sorry, I'm stuck on hold trying to track an international shipment, so have a few minutes to pop in)

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

I've noticed there seem to be two schools of thought about moving:

One is, you sort through everything, sell\ give away the stuff you don't want, clean and pack everything that's left neatly away in labeled boxes, which are organized by what you'll need first, second and third ...

The other is you throw everything into big boxes all together, gorilla the boxes onto a truck, and when you need stuff in the new place, go through the boxes until you find it.

OOC (out of curiosity), are you either of these ?

Also, are you in the same general area, or is this a major relocation?

Yay! I have the interwebs again!

Of course, I still have about zero free time.

Rue: Normally, I'm the first type. And I tried to be, as much as possible, this time around. At the end, though, it went number two (in every sense of that phrase!).

I'm a renter. I pay my rent on time, every time - usually early, just to err on the side of caution. Problem is, the management company I paid it to didn't bother to pass it along to the bank holding the mortgage. So I got a nice note on my door two weeks ago saying the property had been sold at auction on the courthouse steps, and I had less than two weeks to get out. Fun!

Anyway, I told them that at the very least, I had 'til February 1, since I'd sent my check, clearly marked "January Rent, xxxx Address", and it had been cashed. And I could fight the thing a bit longer if I needed to, but that was only forestalling the inevitable. So we started packing and looking, and found a better place in a MUCH better area across town. Not a major relocation, fortunately, since I love my job (now I just hope it lasts...)

If I had to move in 2 weeks ... I can't even finish the thought.

LMFAO.

That'd be me, thankfully I didn't have to solo that, having my 'horde' handy, as DT calls em.

Amazing how fast four fanatics can load three cars a truck and an SUV with the contents of a typical apartment, long as you make sure to pack and carry the fragiles yourself.

We had the new place set up operationally in three days and fully unpacked in five.

When I was younger, and poor, and moved a lot, I had a mantra that went: if I can't fit everything into one car, I don't need it.

Times have changed, that's for sure.

Actually, that's how I moved to Austin. I took what I could fit in the back of an '84 Honda Civic and decided that happiness was seeing San Angelo in my rearview mirror! (I was right.)

To each their own, I was DAMNED glad to see Houston in mine - it wasn't much of an improvement on Baltimore.

And I hated that town, that whole state enough that I make a point to stop and whizz on the welcome to maryland sign every time I come back from visiting family.

Charm city my ass...
