NEWOLDBROWNCOAT

Just heard this one last night.

Obama smokes.
Biggest secret of the campaign , apparrently. 2 years he was running, and nobody ever mentioned it. I mean it's OK he's a secret Muslim terrorist with links to black nationalist racists and Weather Underground bomb throwers, not to mention a gay guy who killed his secret lover, and isn't really an American citizen, and of course a druggie, but THE GUY SMOKES TOBACCO

Cheez, I'da known that, I'da voted for MCCain.

Apparrently, at a press conference the other day, he also gave an evasive answer to the question, " Have you stopped smoking yet? Are you going to stop after you move into the White House?"

Is it too soon to talk about impeachment? :<)

KWICKO

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

I didn't realize it was a secret. I know he's mentioned it in more than one interview, and Michelle chided him for it on at least one occasion during a joint interview they were giving.

Hell of a time to try to quit smoking, though; it's not like there's anything about the job that would be stressful or make one need a smoke now and again... ;)

"It is complete now; the hands of time are neatly tied."

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"“What I said was that there were times where I have fallen off the wagon,” Obama said. “What I would say is that I have done a terrific job under the circumstances of making myself much healthier, and I think that you will not see any violations of these rules in the White House.”"

This is evasive ?

It's never too soon to talk about impeachment, but I think it's unfair. Obama seems to have the mistaken impression that POTUS = dictator, given the role he intends to take in everything to do with the lives of Americans.

OTOH, given the last eight years, I wonder where he got that idea...

Heh, actually me and Jack are worse than PN when it comes to ones right to do what the heck ya please to yourself, but it's really not worth it in the small amount of time I have at the moment...

That being said, an amusingly ironic parallel to Saruman here, who was always baggin on Gandalf for smoking hobbit pipe-weed, and yet mortified that it might be discovered he smoked it himself, heh heh heh.

But hell, if he wants to quit, more power to him, can't see the harm in that - I don't never wanna make that choice for others, and damn sure wouldn't like it made for me, yanno ?

I just hope he doesn't hire a fruit loop like C. Everett Koop as surgeon general, damn that guy was nuts, and yet in spite of it being fully admitted that he was clinically insane *while* in office, a good bit of our national idea of "healthy" is still based on his horribly biased and flawed research, meh.

He even pissed off Reagan by demanding that Ronnie take the jar of jelly beans off his desk, and prettymuch the whole armed forces by throwing a temper tantrum when his demand to be buried at arlington was rebuffed *eyeroll*.

Anyhow, rant aside, if the soon to be president wants to kick a personal habit he doesn't care for, more power to him - long as he leaves his hands off mine, it's all good.

The game and the players remained the same in my absence, but the language totally abandoned me.
Not sure I got a word of that.

Oookay then, I do tend to be rather cryptically sarcastic, yeah...

I believe in the right to do whatever you please - to yourself, you see ?

I mean, it's your body, innit ?

So, if Obama wants to quit smoking, fine, more power to him even, can't see it doin him no harm, right ?

But if he gets the idea that maybe *I* should, maybe it would be a nice idea to *force* me to - "for my own good", then he can just piss up a rope.

And hiring someone crazy enough to try that is the same as doin it himself.

Oh, and former surgeon general C. Everett Koop was a lunatic, that's absolutely true and even the folks who's administration he served in will admit the man was clinically insane even while setting national health policy.

Thus, I have concerns about that sort of thing.

Oh yeah, and prohibition via taxation, is still prohibition, and thus unconstitutional.

You can NOT legislate morality without travelling down a path that ends in dark places.
