Friendly fire kills 99% of dead US troops. Operation Northwoods kills the rest.

WARNING: Fairly graphic, be advised.

It's all quite sad actually, the Tankers were taking fire from a cluster of buildings and started pounding them, and apparently not having been advised (command responsibility) that some of our infantry was operative, hit one with our guys in it.

Shit like that happens in war, that's why smart folk avoid them - but any blame in this matter lies squarely upon the command staff, not the tankers (who followed procedure in IMMEDIATELY ceasing fire upon sighting the white star cluster) nor the infantry, who responded in as professional a manner as can be expected of the situation.

This was a command level fuckup, and subsequent cover up to protect officerial careers, and as such, inexcusable.

I feel sorry for the poor guys, in all honesty, but not sorry enough to feel all warm and happy about their guns being pointed at ME in the near future on behalf of Dept of HomeSec mind you.

But still, it's a damn sorrowful thing caused by someone up the line not being properly informed, and/or not informing the command of other forces of other friendlies in the operations area, and then shovelling a load to protect their career.

And as always, it's the grunts that pay the price for it.

Were it me, I would strip the whole local command of rank and put em in the rifle line, let them see how it is to be on the sharp end of a fuckup like that couple times... then reinstate them once the survivors have a clear appreciation of the importance of getting that shit right the first time.

Nice- sounds like something from Starship Troopers. (The book, not the completely unrelated excuse for a movie.)

I suppose it does - I do not agree with much of Heinlens premise, mind you...

But he does make some good points in there.

I was, essentially, a food supply clerk, and one of the units M60 gunners - but when it came to it, I was a sixtygunner FIRST, worry about the food once yer still alive to feel hungry, aye?

More troops should wear helmetcams and spycams, to prosecute govt employees who kill.

Just like copcarcams are used to send cops to prison every day.

Still, laughing in combat is a sign of unprofessionalism, nervousness, stupidity and insanity. Notice how the troops never hit the deck after they were hit by the howitzer. Shellshocked or not, that's no way to survive combat.

Their slave job is to kill innocent Iraqis trying to defend their own nation in self defense. Ignorance of history is no defense. READ OPERATION NORTHWOODS!

Meanwhile USA is invaded by 50-million illegal aliens, killing more US citizens every year than the Iraqis ever did, as the US borders remain undefended.

PN, you of all folk should know how badly we train infanty, for crying out loud even in my day they were still training to a combination of WWI bayonet rush and civil war firing line tactics.

I mean, come on, how often in THIS day and age does one have a bayonet charge other than individual CQB, or have to dress ranks after a volley ?

I am not the only one who's tried to point out to them that large mano-a-mano clashes are no longer a workable tactic in the modern era, but they don't seem to ever get it, and it costs us badly.

The US Army is, regardless of technological edge, at a severe disadvantage in any engagement without at least an 8-to-1 numerical superiority and will break down at low casualty levels due to a rigid napoleonic doctrine of command and lack of individual initiative drummed out of them during the training and indoctrination process.

Even worse is the need to have their hand held every step of the way by command - this is quietly but visibly showcased in the film Blackhawk Down, where when out of radio contact, american units just kind of muddle around in place without having any idea what to do without someone up the chain to tell them.

I was both a blessing and a curse to my unit for that initiative, since in lieu of proper orders tended to act on my own to resolve issues, but conversely, could be depended on to execute a set of orders over long periods of time in the field without radio guidance or immediate supervision.

Normally the only folks we have who do that are special forces or recon, which is even worse cause we first train them not to use initiative, then have to untrain them about that, and then re-train them for the job, each time losing some effectiveness and increasing the chance of mental aberration due to the nature and style of that training.

If you train a dog the same way, by hurting it every time it fails to execute your will perfectly, and hurting it for no reason at times just to show it whos boss - eventually it's going to get confused and frustrated, or angry, and just sink it's teeth into YOU and be done with it.

Humans will do the equivalent as well, you push em far enough - best to play to the strengths and advantages that make us human, in the training process, than try to create obediant robot drones, it never, EVER works in practice.

Of course, should those troops under command of DepHomeSec ever get deployed here, you can imagine I plan to parlay all those disadvantages for PysOps.

And A-Number-One priority, take out radio comm, jam that sucker, and then they'll just mill around like little lost children at the mall, easy pickins.

I laugh whenever I play FPS and other games where you're in prettymuch nonstop radio contact with some authority - as if no one ever jams, as if no one ever tracks the signals, pfffthh.

Look up Kolchuga - back in our day, the cold war, euro theatre threats, we NEEDED someone who could operate without needing their hand held via constant radio contact, and guess who got stuck with that crummy job ?
