According to several news sources, Jack Kevorkian, the infamous "Dr. Death", is considering a run for Congress as a US Representative from Michigan.

Man, those campaign slogans practically write themselves!

"Jack Kevorkian: He's Right for Congress. Dead Right."

"Jack Kevorkian: A Congressman To Die For"

"Kevorkian: Killer Kongressman!"

I'm actually one of the signatories to get him on the ballot.

He's actually not a bad dude, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him on the ethics committee.

Heh, one could hope, eh ?

Jack - "In times past, men who had failed as completely as you have, would throw themselves upon their sword."

Conyers - "I don't have a sword."

Jack - "Here, you can borrow mine."

He's actually not a bad dude, and since my beliefs allow for offing yourself if you really wanna, I got no issue with him - I'd rather someone who might take my rights a bit far, than someone who wants to take em away, you know ?

That and to express in subtle fashion my displeasure with the lot of em.

Oh, trust me - I have no issue with him running, or even winning - mostly I'm just kind of laughing at the whole ironic situation. And we could do a helluva lot worse than Kevorkian. At least he only wants to let people kill THEMSELVES; he's not bent on wholesale slaughter of others like the current regime is!

I guess my biggest question is this: CAN he even legally run for Congress? He is, after all, a convicted felon (second-degree murder is, I'm sure, still considered a felony, right?). I'd've thought that Congress' own rules would have made it impossible for him to run or serve...

Still, he might just be a Killer Kongressman!

Congress tends to be rather fast and loose with their own rules, historically.

Up to and including refusing to seat members actually elected for either war opposition, party affilication, or racial beliefs, the most high profile case being that of Vic Berger.

That being one of the reasons I never refer to us as either a Democracy or a Republic, given that you can legally elect whoever you want, and Congress, on a whim, can simply refuse to seat them - properly rendering us an Oligarchy.

It's a total mockery of an elective system when those elected can override the decision of the electors at will.
