Excellent, PN, that's an example of what I believe is happening, as well as why. Thank you; I missed that one.
Quote:

A congressman from Ohio had cops grab the cameras of constituents during a town hall meeting. Steve Chabot, a Republican, had cell phones and cameras confiscated in order to “prevent an embarrassing Youtube video from making the rounds,” according to Carlos Miller, who runs a blog documenting efforts by the state to stifle the First Amendment rights of photographers.
I was going to say "well, we can't be sure of that" until I got to
Quote:

as one of Chabot’s staffers told ThinkProgress, they wanted to “prevent” people from “making a show” of the event. Indeed, Chabot and his staff were worried enough about citizens voicing their anger at his policies that they only accepted pre-screened questions chosen by the congressman’s staff.
So I guess I can't argue with Miller after all, given, despite the "terminology", it's pretty obvious why they did it.

Sometimes politicians are just plain ridiculous. To say
Quote:

Police said the cameras were taken “to protect the constituents.” A local television station, however, was allowed to videotape the meeting and the brazen move by Chabot and the cops.
is so ridiculous; they weren't even trying!

I enjoyed the second video (the first one was confusing and kept pausing to upload); I almost felt sorry for the cops. "To protect the identity of the constituents" and to respond to the woman saying "It's not against the law" with "Yes it is. That's what I've been told" shows the cops were just told what to do and that it was illegal, that they didn't even know if it was legal or not! The cop also didn't even answer when he said it was for "security reasons" and she asked "What security reasons?" When she asked again "Tell me what the security reasons are...what are they worried about?", his response was "Are you going to make this hard for me?" Yes, they DID make it hard for him, and I'm tickled they stood up for themselves and questioned his actions. Smart of that first guy to leave his camera on, I applaud his quick thinking!

I think a MUCH bigger issue should have been made about it. If I'd been there, I'd have stood up and made sure everyone knew the cameras were being confiscated, and asked the legislator why. Too bad someone didn't; they'd be removed, of course, but I think it would have been important for everyone there to know what was going on.

As to some of the other opinions voiced, I'll just say that Infowars is pretty "out there" and has made me wonder more than once if "Alex Jones" isn't some pseudonym of yours.

Hello,

I believe these actions were not only wrong, but illegal.

Which actions? Those the cops said were illegal, or the cops confiscating cameras?

Hello,

Perhaps I rely too deeply on my history to speak alongside my present words.

The police broke the law, in my opinion.
