Judge finds Web producer not 'legitimate media'
www.rcfp.org/newsitems/index.php?i=10945

It turns out the news director of WBIR TV testified against me by secret, unserved affidavit, to get me banned from the courtroom. Competition is a sin, says John D Rockefeller. I got a copy of that secret affidavit from the court clerk on Monday, when I picked up the order of dismissal.

The news director had no idea the trial had been dismissed, until I hand-delivered a copy of the order to him Monday morning. So the "legitimate media" had no idea the big trial had been dismissed 5 days previously, even when that same news director had been served a subpoena to testify at trial "to stop censoring the video of that trial". That news director immediately posted my story on their big website, then reported it on TV, beating the 4 other local TV stations, who I also contacted personally.

That same news director refused to pay me for my video his station posted on their big website last week, which is copyright theft (ask RIAA, Sony and A$$CAP).

Today, 60 Minutes skated Pirate News, by intervieweing the same TDEC commissioner about the TVA coal ash disaster who Pirate News TV had interviewed 6 months ago.

Not too shabby for "non-media".

"It is this court's opinion, as it stated to Mr. Lee in open court, that anyone can make a business card, with at home equipment as well as a press badge, and bring a hand-held video camera into a courtroom, and declare themselves media. That does not make 'legitimate media' under Rule 30."

Sounds pretty shabby to me. Bet when you were a kid you thought that plastic badge, toy gun, and cowboy hat made you a "real" policeman too.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Any kid can get a plastic badge and a toy gun, but that doesn't enable them to make real arrests.

PirateNews has the only real requirement of media. He posts the bloody news. There is not, nor should there be, any government 'license' to be a pressman. All that's required is that you collect the news and report the news.

I don't think much of ole Pirate's news techniques, but to say he isn't a part of the media is pretty elitist and ignorant.

I sympathize with a judge who is confounded by an age of progress where anyone can legitimately report the news with a very small budget, but his failure to embrace change does not equal valid law.

Actually it does.

Hell, when I am on duty I even have a nice, professional looking authority-type uniform - but damned if I would actually arrest someone save in the most rare circumstance, cause if you're a clear and mortal threat there will be no need to, and if you're not, I just want you off the friggin property.

Hehehe, Tues night some punk kid from the neighborhood across the street set off a car alarm here - just a little brat scoping for toll change or maybe wanting the radio - I left him a gift on his doorstep this morning.

A cinder block.

I rather doubt he'll try THAT stunt again.
