That writer of that science fiction story mentioned Vietnam, along with Korea. If I had been reading the Encyclopedia Britannica, I wouldn't have volunteered for Vietnam. That war was lost in the 1950's, 16 years before it was officially lost. JFK guaranteed that America would lose by okaying the assassination the President of South Vietnam, Ngo Dinh Diem.

The American attitude was officially neutral, but the U.S. embassy maintained contact with the dissident generals while making no move to aid the Ngos, who were captured and murdered by the South Vietnamese army.

Diem’s death was followed by Kennedy’s less than three weeks later. With respect to Vietnam, the assassinated president left his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, a legacy of indecision, half-measures, and gradually increasing involvement. Kennedy had relished Cold War challenges; Johnson did not. A veteran politician and one of the ablest men ever to serve in the U.S. Senate, he had an ambitious domestic legislative agenda that he was determined to fight through Congress. Foreign policy crises would be at best a distraction and at worst a threat to his domestic reforms. Yet Johnson, like Kennedy, was also well aware of the high political costs of “losing” another country to communism. (It was Republicans and Democrats who should have switched to GOP that worried about “losing” to Communism. )

I would also stretch that to say it's applicable to any government with two or more parties.

A single party dictatorship will just lead the people straight to hell and force them to praise the leadership with a smile on their face with a gun to the head.

In a Democracy they give you the illusion of choice and freedom. It takes a while longer, but it is met with the same end.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

The U.S. government was not designed to look after people like you. It was designed by Washington, Jefferson, and Madison to look after people like themselves: wealthy slave owners who didn't want abolitionists such as John Adams having the power to end slavery. The government continues to work as it was designed and the John Adams of the 21st Century still can't fix slavery, although it is not called slavery anymore. The wealthy get to keep their money. The slave population expanded, but the wealthy are no longer responsible for the needs of slaves because slaves are now all those people paid $15/hour and they look after themselves. It is a nice system if you were me or Jefferson or Madison or George Washington. As you may have noticed, giving the slaves the right to vote doesn't change the fact that the richest 1% are still running America, same as in June 21, 1788.

‘Gone With the Wind’ is also a Confederate monument, but on film instead of stone

The story of the “Gone With the Wind” movie begins, of course, with the novel that inspired it. Published in 1936, Margaret Mitchell’s best-selling book offered a classic “Lost Cause” tale of crushed but resilient white Southerners, devoted black slaves and evil-minded Yankees. It traded heavily in racist descriptions and plot lines, from the “black apes” committing “outrages on women” to Mitchell’s reference to the character Mammy, her face “puckered in the sad bewilderment of an old ape.”

Ku Kluxers are the book’s heroes, helping restore order in the wake of racial chaos.

Both the film and the book celebrated Southern white slaveholder superiority in a way that provided fodder for contemporary political debates and was used to reinforce a conservative, anti-New Deal message: to celebrate the right of white Southerners to challenge federal authority, both historically and in the present, and especially to defy any federal agenda that even hinted at racial justice.

When, in January 1940, Rep. Knute Hill, D-Wash., spoke in opposition to the federal anti-lynching bill being debated in Congress, he referenced “Gone With the Wind.” Although Hill spoke specifically of Mitchell’s novel, he surely knew this would be a timely message, since the movie had just opened with massive publicity to popular acclaim. Hill praised the depiction of good Southern (white) men, men who had been unfairly punished by federal Reconstruction measures, just as good Southern white men in 1940 were being unfairly targeted by legislation that defined the lynching of African Americans as a federal crime.

Looking back on the lost opportunities of this moment, NAACP leader Walter White is said to have summed up the problem like this: “Whatever sentiment there was in the South for a federal anti-lynch law evaporated during the Gone With the Wind vogue.”

“Gone With the Wind” reveals how a romanticization of slavery in the past translated into concrete actions to perpetuate its legacy in the present. Today, in 2020, when hundreds of thousands of Americans have taken to the streets to demand racial justice, and when the U.S. Senate is on the verge of finally passing a federal anti-lynching law, and when dozens of Confederate monuments have come down, maybe it is time to treat the film as the Confederate monument that it is, and take it down, too.

Gone with the Wind is fake history from Hollywood, but it sold a lot of tickets

The states’-rights thesis has found its way into some odd corners of American culture. One of the questions in an exam administered to prospective citizens by the US Immigration and Naturalization service is: “The Civil War was fought over what important issue?” The right answer is either slavery or states’ rights. For Charles Dew growing up in the South of the 1940s and 1950s, there was no either/or. His ancestors on both sides fought for the Confederacy. His much-loved grandmother was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. In his dorm room at prep school in Virginia he proudly hung a Confederate flag. And he knew “that the South had seceded for one reason and one reason only: states’ rights…. Anyone who thought differently was either deranged or a Yankee.”

Later, however, as a distinguished historian of the antebellum South and the Confederacy, Dew was “stunned” to discover that protection of slavery from the perceived threat to its long-term survival posed by Lincoln’s election in 1860 was, in fact, the dominant theme in secessionist rhetoric. In Apostles of Disunion, which quotes and analyzes this rhetoric, Dew has produced an eye-opening study of the men appointed by seceding states as commissioners to visit other slave states—for example, Virginia and Kentucky—in order to persuade them also to leave the Union and join together to form the Confederacy. “I found this in many ways a difficult and painful book to write,” Dew acknowledges, but he nevertheless unflinchingly concludes that “to put it quite simply, slavery and race were absolutely critical elements in the coming of the war…. Defenders of the Lost Cause need only read the speeches and letters of the secession commissioners to learn what was really driving the Deep South to the brink of war in 1860–61.”

Those who do read the excerpts from speeches and letters quoted by Dew will find plenty of confirmation for this conclusion. “The conflict between slavery and non-slavery is a conflict for life and death,” a South Carolina commissioner told Virginians in February 1861. “The South cannot exist without African slavery.” The Mississippi convention’s “Declaration of Immediate Causes” of that state’s secession formed the basis for their commissioners’ message to other Southern states: “Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery.” With Lincoln’s election,
Quote:

there was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the union…. We must either submit to degradation and to the loss of property worth four billions of money, or we must secede….

Mississippi’s commissioner to Maryland insisted that “slavery was ordained by God and sanctioned by humanity.” If slave states remained in a Union ruled by Lincoln and his Republican cohorts, “the safety of the rights of the South will be entirely gone.”

And so on ad nauseam. The secession conventions and the commissioners grossly exaggerated the Republican threat to slavery in 1861. Lincoln had been elected on a platform of merely containing slavery’s future expansion. Republicans would not have a majority in Congress if the South stayed in the Union. But perhaps the commissioners deemed such exaggeration necessary to scare timid Southerners into support for disunion. That was surely true of their even more egregious distortion of the Republicans’ position on race. A Mississippi commissioner told Georgians that Republicans intended not only to abolish slavery but also to “substitute in its stead their new theory of the universal equality of the black and white races.” Unless white Southerners wanted “submission to negro equality…secession is inevitable.”

When Abraham Lincoln delivered his second inaugural address on March 4, 1865, at the end of four years of civil war, few people in either the North or the South would have dissented from his statement that slavery “was, somehow, the cause of the war.”(1) At the war’s outset in 1861 Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy, had justified secession as an act of self-defense against the incoming Lincoln administration, whose policy of excluding slavery from the territories would make “property in slaves so insecure as to be comparatively worthless,…thereby annihilating in effect property worth thousands of millions of dollars.”(2)

The Confederate vice-president, Alexander H. Stephens, had said in a speech at Savannah on March 21, 1861, that slavery was “the immediate cause of the late rupture and the present revolution” of Southern independence. The United States, said Stephens, had been founded in 1776 on the false idea that all men are created equal. The Confederacy, by contrast,
Quote:

is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition. This, our new Government, is the first, in the history of the world, based on this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.(3)
Unlike Lincoln, Davis and Stephens survived the war to write their memoirs. By then, slavery was gone with the wind. To salvage as much honor and respectability as they could from their lost cause, they set to work to purge it of any association with the now dead and discredited institution of human bondage. In their postwar views, both Davis and Stephens hewed to the same line: Southern states had seceded not to protect slavery, but to vindicate state sovereignty. This theme became the virgin birth theory of secession: the Confederacy was conceived not by any worldly cause, but by divine principle.

Assuming everything you say is true, what is the benefit to erasing it from history?

You can't learn from the mistakes you sweep under the rug.

Why do you think that human beings are doomed to repeat their mistakes over and over and over and over and over and over and over again?

This is a perfect illustration of why.

6ix, Gone with the Wind will always be available for poor little you. And to accuse Democrats of "book burning" when it didn't happen means you have delusions of being persecuted. Nobody will bother to persecute you; the Commies, the Socialists, the Libtards, the Blacks from Chicago, the Mexicans aren't coming to take your crappy house and your money and Gone with the Wind. Those people are not causing your problems in life; your distorted thinking in your tiny brain causes your problems.

For most of human existence, we didn’t have a civilization:

Why did we take so long to invent civilization? Modern Homo sapiens first evolved roughly 250,000 to 350,000 years ago. But initial steps towards civilization — harvesting, then domestication of crop plants — began only around 10,000 years ago, with the first civilizations appearing 6,400 years ago.

For 95 percent of our species’ history, we didn’t farm, create large settlements, or complex political hierarchies. We lived in small, nomadic bands, hunting and gathering. Then, something changed.

The archaeological and fossil records tell us our ancestors could have pursued farming, but only did so after they had little alternative. We probably would have continued hunting mammoths forever, but we were just too good at it, and likely wiped out our own food supply.

Agriculture and civilization may have been invented not because they were an improvement over our ancestral lifestyle, but because we were left no choice. Agriculture was a desperate attempt to fix things when we took more than the ecosystem could sustain. If so, we abandoned the life of ice age hunters to create the modern world, not with foresight and intent, but by accident — because of an ecological catastrophe we created.

How the extinction of ice age mammals may have forced us to invent civilization

Gone with the Wind opening credits prologue: There was a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South... Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow.. Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and Slave... Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered. A Civilization gone with the wind…

Most people who watch Gone with the Wind take it seriously, not as a lampoon of what to avoid. And as for 6ix claiming the Democrats are book burners, the Ku Klux Klan makes the same claim as 6ix. But, again, the Democrats burned nothing and the Klanmen lie constantly while claiming to be tellers of the strict truth.

Now you are trivializing and mocking Gone with the Wind. The author of the book Gone with the Wind took it seriously. Mitchell learned the gritty details of specific battles from visits with aging Confederate soldiers. But she didn't learn that the South had actually lost the war until she was 10 years of age: "I heard everything in the world except that the Confederates lost the war. When I was ten years old, it was a violent shock to learn that General Lee had been defeated. I didn't believe it when I first heard it and I was indignant. I still find it hard to believe, so strong are childhood impressions."

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

As I said, I never took the movie seriously. It was so ridiculous I thought it was a parody.

And I'm sure most of the ladies who were waiting to hear "... damn" coming from Gable's mouth weren't learning what you claim is the intended lesson either. They just wanted to see the dashing handsome man onscreen. And maybe look at the pretty dresses.

Why couldn't the greedy and interfering Yankees let Africans freely choose to be happy slaves, content with their fulfilling lives as property owned by the wise and superior white ruling class of planters? That is the question the movie asked.

Naw. The question was "Will Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara be together at the end of the movie?"

That was the second question in the movie: "During this period in which Mitchell was reading pornography and sexology, she was also writing Gone with the Wind."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Mitchell#Interest_in_erotica

The first question was why did the Yankees send Social Justice Warriors to Georgia and break the system that served the planter class so well. It seemed extremely unfair to the Confederates, who were peacefully minding their own business when the North unjustly and illegally invaded them under the orders of the evil President Lincoln with a monkey's face.

Digital book burning is still book burning. In fact, it makes it easier than ever.

Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam look awfully foolish without guns.

Meanwhile, go play The Last of Us 2 and watch a tranny brutally murder the white male protagonist from the first game and watch the same tranny bite off the female white protagonist's fingers and not get what's coming to "her" because Tranny.

One is not the other.

Really? The audio book version of Gone with the Wind takes far longer to finish than watching the movie. Is that like the story Trump tells about The West Point Ramp takes far longer than the Ramp video because of the descriptions of Trump's feelings?

At His Tulsa Rally, Trump Explains What Happened With the West Point Ramp

At his rally Saturday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, President Donald Trump explained what happened with the ramp at his West Point commencement speech one week ago. Here is the president’s explanation in full.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2020/06/trump-tulsa-speech-west-po
int-ramp-water-glass-full-explanation.html

To show you how fake they are, you might have seen it. So last week they called me, and they said, “Sir, West Point. West Point. We’re ready.”

I said, “Oh, that’s right, I have to make the commencement speech at West Point.” You know, they delayed it for six weeks, because of COVID. So they delayed it. And I went there. One thousand one hundred and six cadets were graduated, and beautiful. Right? Beautiful get-up.

So—this is just to show you how bad the fake news is—so they say to me, “Sir, we’re ready to go.”

I say, “Let’s go!” This is after saying hello to a lot of cadets, inspecting little areas of a building that was very exciting, actually it’s beautiful, very old. Studied a lot of our great generals, some of our presidents that went there. West Point is beautiful, right on the Hudson River.

But after an hour—the general that runs it is a fantastic guy—after an hour, we land, we do some more inspections, and they say, “Sir, are you ready?”

“Yes, I am!”

So we walk like the equivalent of about three blocks, which is fine. We go on stage, which is fine. They make speeches, then I make a speech, it lasted a long time, maybe 45 minutes, maybe longer, I dunno, but a long time. The sun is pouring down on me, okay?

But they said to me before the speech, “Sir, would you like to salute each cadet? Each single cadet? Or maybe they’ll be in groups of two. Would you like to salute? Like this? Like this?” Almost six hundred times, do you know what that is? SIX HUNDRED TIMES! Thank God they were in twos! ’Cause let me tell you, you do that six hundred times, you go home and you say—it’s like a workout without a weight, right? Six hundred times! So I did that.

Then the incredible helicopters, brand new, gorgeous helicopters, the Apaches and the other new ones that we just bought, so they fly over. And the kids throw the hats in the air, it’s beautiful, it really is, and it was a beautiful day. And we’re all finished.

Video starts here:

I was on the stage for hours—HOURS!—sun, I came home, I had a nice tan, meaning I had a nice sunburn. The sun’s going right like that.

But I make the speech, right? I salute for probably an hour and a half, maybe more, but around that. Watch, if I’m off by two minutes, they’ll say, “He exaggerated! It was only an hour and twenty-five minutes. He exaggerated! He lied! He lied! He’s a liar!” These people are sick, the fake news.

So then, I finish saluting. My final salute, I said, “Thank goodness, thank you very much.” But think of it, so, essentially almost 600 times.

Now, the general says, “Sir, are you ready?”

I said, “I’m ready, general, where are we going now?” You have to understand, I left early in the morning to get there. Now it’s sort of late in the afternoon. A lot of these fakers were with us, so they know.

He said, “Sir, we can now leave the stage.”

I said, “That’s great, general, I’ll follow you.”

And he goes like this: “Right here, sir.” And the stage was higher than this one, and the ramp was probably ten yards long.

I say, “General!” Now, you gotta understand, I have the whole corps of cadets looking at me. And I want them to love their president, I did this big thing. I love them, I love them, they’re incredible. And they do! I said, “General! I’ve got myself a problem, general, because I’m wearing leather-bottomed shoes.” Which is good, if you’re walking on flat surfaces. It’s not good for ramps. And if I fall down—look at all those press back there, look at them.

And this was a steel ramp. You all saw it, ’cause everybody saw it. This was a steel ramp. It had no handrail. It was like an ice skating rink! And I said, “General, I have a problem,” and he didn’t understand that at first. I said, “There’s no way!” He understood. I just saluted almost 600 times, I just made a big speech, I sat for other speeches, I’m being baked. I’m being baked like a cake. I said, “General, there’s no way I can make it down that ramp without falling on my ass, general. I have no railing.” It’s true!

So I said, “Is there, like, something else around?”

He said “Sir, the ramp is ready to go! Grab me, sir, grab me!” I didn’t really want to grab him. You know why? ’Cause I said, “That’ll be a story too.”

So now I have a choice: I can stay up there another couple of hours and wait till I’m rescued, or I can go down this really steep, really, really, really—it’s an ice-skating rink, it’s brutal. So I said, “General, get ready, ’cause I may grab you so fast.” Because I can’t fall with the fake news watching.

If I fall, if I fall, I remember when President Ford fell out of the plane, you remember? I remember when another president, nice man, threw up in Japan, and they did slow-motion replays. It’s true! Right? “I don’t want that, general.” So he’s standing there, big strong guy, and he’s got these shoes, but they’re loaded with rubber on the bottom. Because I looked, the first thing I did, I looked at his shoes. Then I looked at mine. Very, very slippery. So I end up saying, “Okay, general, let’s go. I will only grab you if I need you.” That’s not a good story, falling would be a disaster. It turned out to be worse than anything. I would have been better off if I fell and slid down the damn ramp. Right?

So what happens is I start the journey. Inch by inch, right? And I was really bent over, too, I didn’t like that, you know, I didn’t like this picture. This picture I’m sure will be an ad by the fakers. So I was bent over, right? And then we finally reached almost the end, and the fake news, the most dishonest human beings, they cut it off, you know why? Because when I was ten feet short, I said, “General, I’m sorry,” and I ran down the rest, right? I looked very handsome, that, that was the only good part. I wouldn’t want to run down the whole thing, because a fall there would be definitely bad.

So I took these little steps, I ran down the last ten. And by the way, their tape? Take a look. In almost every instance, it ends just before I run. And they said it was the number one trending story. I called my wife, I said, “How good was that speech?” I thought it was a—hey, look, I will tell you when I make good ones and bad ones. Like so far tonight, I’m average. But we’re having fun. We’re having fun. So far tonight.

But I call my wife and I said, “How good was it, darling?”

She said, “You’re trending number one.”

I said, to our great first lady, I said, “Lemme ask you a question. Was it that good, the speech, that I’m trending number one? Because I felt it was really good.”

“No, no, they don’t even mention the speech. They mention the fact that you may have Parkinson’s Disease.” It’s true. It’s true. IT’S TRUE!

They say, “There’s something wrong with our president!” I’ll let you know if there’s something wrong, okay? I’ll let you know if there’s something—I’ll tell you what: There’s something wrong with Biden, that I can tell you.

So then my wife said, “Well, it wasn’t only the ramp. Did you have water?”

I said, “Yeah, I was speaking for a long time. I didn’t want to drink it, but I wanted to wet my lips a little bit, you know? You’re drinking for, you’re working hard up there, with the sun pouring down on you.” I love this location, the sun’s like this, this way they save on lighting, right? That’s why they did it, probably. So what happens is I said, “What does it have to do with water?”

They said, “You couldn’t lift your hand up to your mouth with water.”

I said, “I just saluted 600 times! Like this! And this was before I saluted, so what’s the problem?”

She said, “Well, I know what you did, you had on a very good red tie that’s sort of expensive.” It’s silk, because they look better, they have a better sheen to ’em. And I don’t want to get water on the tie, and I don’t want to drink much, so I lifted up the water. I see we have a little glass of water, where the hell did this water come from, right? Where did it come from? And I looked down at my tie, ’cause I’ve done it, I’ve taken water, and it spills down into your tie, it doesn’t look good for a long time. And frankly the tie is never the same. So I put it up to my lip, and then I say—because I don’t want it to! Just in case. And they gave me another disease. They gave me another disease.

Anyway, that’s a long story, but here’s the story. I have lived with more the ramp than the water, but I’ve lived with the ramp and the water since I left West Point. Not one media group said I made a good speech or I made a great speech. But the kids loved it, because they broke their barrier, which wasn’t good in terms of COVID, but they broke their barrier, and they wanted to shake hands, they wanted to, and I don’t want to tell anybody, but there were a couple of kids, they put out their hand and I actually shook their hand, okay? I actually shook it. ’Cause they were excited. They were excited! They’re with their president, they were excited. The most beautiful young people, men, women, the most beautiful young people you’ve ever seen. So think of how you feel, if you’re me. I go there. “How did I do?”

“Sir, that was a great speech.” You know, all my people, “Sir, that was one of your best, that was great.”

I say, “That’s great, I agree, it was a good speech. I liked that speech.” They don’t mention the speech, but they have me going down this ramp at an inch at a time. It’s so unfair. It really is. So unfair. They are among the most dishonest people anywhere on earth. They’re bad people. Bad people.

Okay, that’s enough of that. I wanted to tell that story. Does everybody understand that story?

The Code of Capital, How the Law Creates Wealth and Inequality
by Katharina Pistor, Princeton University Press

Free download at https://libgen.unblockit.pw/search.php?req=Katharina+Pistor

The book points to how America got into a mess, at first slowly, then faster:

In Adam Smith’s account, the lack of institutional certainty in foreign places was the invisible hand that drove merchants back home, where they would invariably share some of their spoils with their community. For the merchants, this presented itself as a massive institutional failure, which greatly increased their costs of doing business and reduced their private gains. If institutions could be streamlined around the globe, business would become more predictable and the merchants could simply dispense with the invisible hand and keep their spoils for themselves.

Building the legal infrastructure for global commerce has taken, for the most part, one of two forms: the harmonization of laws in different countries and states, and the recognition and enforcement of foreign law. The latter has been much more successful in protecting capital globally, but it did require that countries adapted their own conflict-of-law rules to ensure that private choice and autonomy would prevail over public concerns.

Asset holders are not interested in sharing their spoils; they will take legal protection where they can find it, and if they find it on foreign shores, they have little reason for returning home, where, as Adam Smith suggested, they would invariably share some of their gains with their home base. They are not even interested in the rule of law as such, only to the extent that it advances their own interests. Often, the same asset holders who only recently waged a battle to have their private rights fully protected by law will then seek exemptions from those very rules, when they realize that these rules might also be used against them.

Examples abound; recall that English landlords first fought for priority rights over the commoners. After they had effectively excluded the commoners, they used their title to raise debt finance and mortgaged their land to creditors. However, when creditors tried to seize their property to recover the value of the loans they had extended to them, they cried foul and turned to lawyers and to courts for help. The lawyers helped them to protect their family wealth behind the legal veil of the trust and thereby to immunize it from their personal creditors; and the courts recognized and enforced these new boundaries, keeping creditors at bay. In doing so, they prolonged land’s status for a few decades as the most important source of wealth. It took a major economic depression to redraw these boundaries in law and to empower creditors to fully enforce the mortgages they had obtained.

Creditors soon learned to play the same game. They lobbied hard for creditors priority rights over unsecured creditors, although they faced considerable push-back from entrepreneurs who convinced the English parliament that insolvency was not necessarily evidence of their immorality, but just as likely, of bad luck. Indeed, persons that qualified as “traders” received special treatment in bankruptcy. Unlike the paupers, who were imprisoned for failing to pay their debt, bankruptcy offered a cleansing process for “traders”, whereby they could rid themselves of past obligations.

The latest champions of debt finance, the derivative traders of our own time, similarly demanded and obtained exemptions from general bankruptcy rules to ensure that they could re-position their portfolio at any time, even if this put other creditors at risk. The last thing any creditor wants is a run on the debtor’s assets —— unless of course she gets there first, which is what bankruptcy safe harbors are all about. They allow creditors of privileged assets to net out their claims before any other, including secured, creditors get their share, while everybody else has to yield to the automatic stay.

It is not difficult to understand why asset holders might want these legal privileges; after all, it gives them an edge over competitors in amassing and protecting their wealth. Less clear is why states fall for this and often create additional carve-outs for holders of capital assets over and above the privileges they already enjoy by virtue of the code’s basic modules. To some, the answer to this question will seem only too obvious. To Marxists, the question of power and rule is inextricably linked to class struggle and rule by one class over . . . You can find out how that ends by downloading the book, especially chapter 9 where "Capital rules, and it rules by law", for free at https://libgen.unblockit.pw/search.php?req=Katharina+Pistor

The book has some ideas on how to fix the problems, but it also mentions the nasty possibilities if NOT fixed:

The only other trajectories are a violent disruption of the current order, that is, a true revolution, or, short of it, the further erosion of law’s legitimacy as a means of social ordering. The first outcome cannot be excluded entirely, but revolutions to overcome capitalism have been far less common than Marx and his followers have predicted. The second trajectory may, sadly, already be under way, as illustrated by the rampant attacks on independent judiciaries and the free press, not only in relatively young democracies, such as Poland or Hungary, but in countries with a long tradition of democracy and the rule of law, such the United Kingdom and the United States. If these trends continue, naked power will once more gain sway over legal ordering, as it has done over most of human history —— and we will all be worse off for it.

Trump Is Promising Four More Years of Strife

He can’t run on accomplishments. So he’s running on violence and fear.

On Saturday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, President Donald Trump tried to relaunch his reelection campaign. This was his chance, after the onslaught of the novel coronavirus and three months without a campaign rally, to tell Americans what he would do in a second term. The election, he argued, was about defeating an array of enemies: anarchists, journalists, Democrats, and “millions and millions of illegal aliens.” But the common theme was enmity itself. Trump can’t run on four more years of prosperity. So he’s running on four more years of strife.

At the rally, Trump shrugged off the 120,000 Americans killed by the virus, joking that he preferred to test fewer people so fewer infections would be found. He said he had shaken hands with children in the arena. This was no big deal, he opined, because if a kid got sick, he’d “recover in about 15 minutes.” Critics “always blame a president,” Trump scoffed. “Other than all of the horrible, horrible death,” he concluded, “people are going to say, ‘Man, this guy is doing a good job.’ ”

Instead of talking about his accomplishments, Trump devoted his speech to skewering people he didn’t like. He called them “sadistic,” “vicious,” “hateful,” and “sinister.” He ridiculed an unnamed government employee, labeling him a “dumb son of a bitch.” Trump encouraged the crowd to boo reporters in the arena, calling them “the most dishonest people anywhere on earth.” He denounced athletes who knelt for the national anthem. He claimed that anarchists were really Democrats: “Democrat, all Democrat. Everything I tell you is Democrat.”

Trump could have killed Obama for treason, if only . . . Obama better worry about what happens in Trump’s second term, because he wants Obama dead, dead, dead.

Trump for months has publicly accused Obama of committing crimes, but has repeatedly declined to say which crimes in particular when asked by reporters. But speaking with CBN News in an interview that aired Monday, Trump offered, without evidence, that Obama had committed treason.

"It's treason," Trump said. "Look, when I came out a long time ago, I said they've been spying on my campaign. I said they've been taping, and that was in quotes, meaning a modern day version of taping, it's all the same thing. But a modern day version. But they've been spying on my campaign."

Expanding on his unfounded claim Monday, Trump went on to say that members of the Obama administration could have been executed for their alleged crimes.

"If it was the opposite, two years ago, 25 people would have been convicted and they would be sent to jail for 50 years. And by the way, if it were 100 years ago, or 50 years ago, they would have been executed, but we're in a different time," he said.

"We're in a different time. You understand what I mean by that. They spied on the opposing party's campaign and we caught them." Trump continued, "I just hope I get tremendous evangelical Christian support."

In reality, there is no evidence that the Obama committed any acts that reach the definition of treason. Under the Constitution, treason is narrowly defined: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."

Trump is as nuts as the Joker.

6ix, remember your favorite movie, Joker? AURaptor claimed Joker was an "unreliable narrator" and that makes him blameless. Maybe no killings happened in the movie. It was all in Joker's imagination. Trump has an imagination, too. Like the Joker, Trump could be, in the eyes of his voters, the ultimate unreliable narrator/President, in his words and works. Unreliable narrator is not a good excuse for a President. That unreliability makes him full of blame, an overflowing toilet of blame, for all nonsense coming out of his mouth about executing Obama for treason.

It is not "whatever". Trump said Obama should be executed for treason. Trump is nuts to have said that, only yesterday. What will he say tomorrow to top that nuttiness?

The words came out of Trump's mouth. Trump said he wants Obama and 25 to 50 people who worked for Obama to be killed for treason. 6ixStringJack thinks it is fake. It's only fake because Trump doesn't have the guts to do it, but if it was 50 or 100 years ago, says Trump, some President would have executed those traitors, just not Trump, not now because Trump is so enlightened, peaceful and sane.

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah...

The world would be better off without him. While you're at it, round up GWB, the entire Bush family, all the Clintons, John Bolton, a majority of the US senate and house, a majority of the Legacy Media and put them all on Epstein's island and nuke it.

We'd better dig up McCain and Cheney's corpses and bring them along with just to make sure.

If you nuked every proven fool and habitual sinner, there aren't enough nukes. But some people are piling up their sins into dangerously high mountains, building a hazard for everyone at lower elevations being buried by avalanches of stupid decisions/actions. For example, Trump has killed off every nuclear weapons treaty. That hasn't started nuclear war, but it set the world up for an avalanche of death.

Every once in a while, someone is able to break through the clutter -- and nail exactly what it is that makes Trump so unorthodox as president. Over the weekend, Steve Schmidt, who ran John McCain's 2008 campaign for president, was that person in an interview on MSNBC.

Here's his analysis of Trump, which ran almost exactly two minutes.
Video is here: https://twitter.com/Eleven_Films/status/1261557712590012416

"Donald Trump has been the worst president this country has ever had. And I don't say that hyperbolically. He is. But he is a consequential president. And he has brought this country in three short years to a place of weakness that is simply unimaginable if you were pondering where we are today from the day where Barack Obama left office. And there were a lot of us on that day who were deeply skeptical and very worried about what a Trump presidency would be. But this is a moment of unparalleled national humiliation, of weakness.

"When you listen to the President, these are the musings of an imbecile. An idiot. And I don't use those words to name call. I use them because they are the precise words of the English language to describe his behavior. His comportment. His actions. We've never seen a level of incompetence, a level of ineptitude so staggering on a daily basis by anybody in the history of the country whose ever been charged with substantial responsibilities.

"It's just astonishing that this man is president of the United States. The man, the con man, from New York City. Many bankruptcies, failed businesses, a reality show, that branded him as something that he never was. A successful businessman. Well, he's the President of the United States now, and the man who said he would make the country great again. And he's brought death, suffering, and economic collapse on truly an epic scale. And let's be clear. This isn't happening in every country around the world. This place. Our place. Our home. Our country. The United States. We are the epicenter. We are the place where you're the most likely to die from this disease. We're the ones with the most shattered economy. And we are because of the fool that sits in the Oval Office behind the Resolute Desk."

After reading former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s tell-all book, it becomes exceedingly clear that President Donald Trump’s foreign policy is terrible — but Bolton’s is much, much worse.

Anyone who reads the 500-plus-page book will find their suspicions were correct: Trump’s approach to the world truly is that shambolic and dangerous. But there’s a twist: The author inadvertently offers readers hope that there’s been a major improvement — because the author himself is no longer in the White House.

By his own recounting, Bolton urged Trump to shy away from diplomacy and seek hardline positions against adversarial countries, namely in North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela. In one particularly disturbing passage, Bolton says it was “irrational” for Trump not to conduct an attack on Iran that could have led to tens to hundreds of civilian casualties, after it downed an unmanned American surveillance drone.

Had Trump taken Bolton’s advice more often, then, the US would be engaged in multiple conflicts across the globe. “It’s not clear to me that something equivalent to two more Iraq Wars would be better for the country,” Joshua Shifrinson, a US foreign policy expert at Boston University, said.

“Here’s a man that makes Trump’s bellicose foreign policy look good,” he added of Bolton.

Fortunately for America, Bolton’s most aggressive plans were foiled because Trump had created a chaotic national security process in which little to nothing could get done. “What happened on one day on a particular issue often had little resemblance to what happened the next day, or the day after,” Bolton wrote. “Few seemed to realize it, care about it, or have any interest in fixing it.”

Who said anything about every proven fool or habitual "sinner"?

I made a list. It would just take one.

In other words, it was not the book you were looking for.

But it certainly seems to show what I already knew about Bolton and what you should have.

WTF did you think was going to be in that book, dummy?

Bolton, as an author, is a smart observer. Trump, as an author, is stupid and oblivious.

All those synonyms describe Trump, but not Bolton:
unaware
unconscious
heedless
unmindful
insensible
unheeding
ignorant
blind
deaf
unsuspecting
unobservant

Bolton is worth reading for his smart observations. Trump is not worth reading because of his stupid observations and all around lying in every paragraph he writes, especially about business. But both Trump and Bolton are Republicans. It is simply that one them is out-of-his-mind crazy and it is not Bolton.
