Trump confesses: "Sure, I Did It. So What?" If the GOP Senators say it is not a crime for me to commit that crime, what are you going to do about it?

President Trump acknowledged on Sunday that he discussed former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. with Ukraine’s president. While Mr. Trump defended his July phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine as perfectly appropriate, he confirmed that Mr. Biden came up during the discussion.

It’s pretty clear at this point that Trump realizes the truth of what happened is likely to come out. So he’s doing what he usually does: preemptively declaring that there’s nothing wrong with it and getting the entire conservative machine to publicly agree with him. I don’t know if it will work, but if Trump did what we all think he did, then he has to be impeached for one reason, only: Senators have to go on record either approving or disapproving of his conduct. Then the voters will decide if they approve of Republican Senators decriminalizing a crime when the criminal is Trump because Trump is so very loved and very special to the GOP Senators.

In case you can't recognize a crime, it is Trump using Federal money as a bribe for the President of Ukraine, who then takes down Joe Biden, Trump's rival.

If Biden does not get nominated, the voters will be told by the GOP and Trump that bribery doesn't matter. All you have proved, 6ix, is that 44.7% of Americans deserve to be in the lower 50% of wealth. They are in the bottom half because they make bad decisions all the time and their approval of Trump is just another one of those decisions. As far as I'm concerned, Trump can stay around long enough to become the next Herbert Hoover, who crashed the American economy so badly that the Democrats took control away from the Republicans for the next 30 years. If Trump manages to crash the economy, I will buy foreclosure real estate and the S&P 500 at a HUGE discount and wait for the markets to recover. If there is no crash, that is good for me, too.

To no one’s surprise, yet another shoe dropped today in Ukrainegate.

Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani didn’t rule out the possibility that the president threatened to cut off aid to Ukraine over calls for an investigation into largely discredited allegations against former Vice President Joe Biden and his son. Giuliani first said in response to a question on Fox Business Monday that Trump didn’t threaten Ukraine aid, but then added he “can’t say for 100%.”

So here’s where we are:

Phase 1: Nothing happened.

Phase 2: It doesn’t matter what I said.

Phase 3: I may have mentioned Biden.

Phase 4: It’s possible the president threatened to cut off aid to Ukraine.

The goal here is to admit to an impeachable act, but to do it slowly enough that each revelation isn’t quite enough to cause Trump’s supporters to bolt. Then, by the time the whole story is out, they’ve already defended pretty much every detail and have no choice but to stay on his side. And with that, Trump has successfully shot someone on Fifth Avenue and gotten away with it.

Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich got heated over allegations that President Donald Trump is pressuring Ukraine to help him win an election, noting the GOP would freak out if Barack Obama did the same.

As I reported at the time, the truth is not that hard to determine. There is little doubt that Biden’s son Hunter did benefit from his father’s position by securing a spot on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas company in 2014, a legal but ethically dubious move. But when Joe Biden subsequently conveyed a threat from the Obama administration to withhold $1 billion in loan guarantees to Ukraine unless the chief prosecutor was dismissed, his intervention made it more rather than less likely that the oligarch who paid his son would be subject to prosecution for corruption.

That’s because one of the most prominent cases of official corruption that Shokin had failed to pursue was against a former environment and natural resources minister, Mykola Zlochevsky, who had oversight of all Ukrainian energy firms, including the largest independent gas company, Burisma, which he secretly controlled through shell companies in Cyprus. After Zlochevsky was forced from office in 2014 — in the popular uprising that toppled a pro-Russian president, Viktor Yanukovych, and forced his political adviser, Paul Manafort, to look elsewhere for work — Burisma appointed Hunter Biden to its board.

Shokin’s reluctance to pursue Zlochevsky was loudly condemned by the Obama administration shortly before Biden traveled to Ukraine at the end of 2015. In a speech to the Odessa Financial Forum that September, U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt complained that the chief prosecutor’s office had “undermined prosecutors working on legitimate corruption cases,” like, for example, “the case of former Ecology Minister Mykola Zlochevsky.”

“Shokin was fired,” the executive director of Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Action Center, Daria Kaleniuk, told me in May, “because he failed to do investigations of corruption and economic crimes of President Yanukovych and his close associates, including Zlochevsky, and basically it was the big demand within society in Ukraine, including our organization and many other organizations, to get rid of this guy.”

Despite the debunking of this conspiracy theory by The Intercept and other news outlets when Giuliani first raised it in May, the president’s lawyer was invited on CNN this week and allowed, over the course of 20 minutes on national television, to make a series of false claims about Biden and Ukraine, uncorrected by the host, Chris Cuomo, who admitted that he had almost no knowledge of the facts of the case.

It does not work that way. All the GOP Senators have insisted that they won't convict Trump. They are family. If you were a prosecutor, you would not go to trial if the defendant's relatives were on the jury and also the judge, the bailiff, and most of the witnesses. I'll give you an example how that "family" relationship works between Trump and Mitch McConnell, who has already revealed his vote on Trump's innocence :

President Trump told his acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, to hold back almost $400 million in military aid for Ukraine at least a week before a phone call in which Trump is said to have pressured the Ukrainian president to investigate the son of former vice president Joe Biden, according to three senior administration officials.

Administration officials were instructed to tell lawmakers that the delays were part of an “interagency process” but to give them no additional information — a pattern that continued for nearly two months, until the White House released the funds on the night of Sept. 11.

In short: as part of an attempt to extort a foreign country, Trump withheld military aid from them and then lied to Congress about why he was doing it.

Mitch McConnell, naturally, was saddened that Democrats were trying to “politicize” the matter. That is just McConnell sending a message to the voters in Kentucky about how innocent Trump is.

A trial is foolish unless every single GOP Senator takes a public oath that they would convict Trump and that they have not prejudged him as innocent and unimpeachable. I will tell you an ugly secret of mine: I don't think Trump has, yet, been a bad enough employee to fire. Bad in the way Nixon bombed Cambodia and Laos, secretly. But if Trump keeps believing he can't be fired because he is family for most of the Senate, since most Senators keep telling him they would never fire him, he will never stop being a fat, lazy, rude employee. I'd love to see the Senate scare Trump into losing 50 pounds and actually working a 40 hour week, even if the Senate does not replace Trump with Pence.

Very clearly, a majority of voters do not care about those three points, therefore GOP Senators don't care, either. To care would get themselves voted out of office. But one thing GOP Senators should care about is that tax cheating increases the National Debt by $500 billion per year. You might not be aware, but the upper income brackets can cheat all they feel they can get away with. Trump is showing the rich how easy the system is to cheat. The Senate should make an example of Trump, and change how other rich men feel about cheating, by showing that either Trump is a very conscientious tax payer who does not cheat (ha-ha-ha!), or forcing a tax cheating Trump to pay all his taxes. The Senate has to force Trump to reveal his tax returns.

Getting back to Mister Sand-In-the-Gears: President Trump said Tuesday that he held up American aid to Ukraine because European countries have not paid their fair share to support the Ukraine, and pointed to the fact that the American money was eventually released as evidence that he had done nothing wrong.

Trump is full of shit about "fair share". For the record, the European Union paid more than €15 billion in grants and loans to support the reform process in Ukraine since 2014. This includes €500 million disbursed late last year for 2019. This compares to US aid of about $1.2 billion over the same period plus about $1 billion in military aid. In other words, the EU has already provided Ukraine with about eight times as much aid as the US over the past five years and will provide more than the US in 2019 as well.

Trump has now fessed up to everything: he did hold up the aid to Ukraine and he did ask Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son. But he had reasons! He held up the aid because of the cheapskate Europeans (who are actually very generous) and he asked for the investigation because he was very worried about political corruption in the US (Sure, nothing to do with Trump reelecting Trump).

All the pieces are in place. All we need now is the whistleblower complaint, a transcipt of the phone call, and all the evidence underlying them. Should be a piece of cake since Trump obviously has nothing to hide.

I think the GOP approach to Trump is pretty smart: they are essentially ignoring him and what he says and even does. Even they can't find good things to say about him. Instead, they focus their efforts on vilifying Democrats. AOC, Clinton, Obama, the usual tropes and bs. And judging from this place, it's working just great.
