MEANWHILE

The judge in the case ordered that portions of special counsel Robert Mueller's report that relate to Flynn be unredacted and made public by the end of the month. CBS News justice correspondent Paula Reid says it will give the public its first look at some of the redacted portions from Mueller's Russia report.

Thursday's order from U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan is the first time a judge is known to have directed the Justice Department to make public any portion of the report that the agency had kept secret. It could set up a conflict with Attorney General William Barr, whose team spent weeks blacking out from the report grand jury information, details of ongoing investigations and other sensitive information.

Impeaching Donald Trump and removing him from office would not overturn the will of the people. The will of the people was that Hillary Clinton should be president. She secured 65.8 million votes to Trump’s 62.9 million. If we make the reasonable assumption that the millions of voters who cast their ballots for third-party contenders were also disinclined to make “the Donald” the president, then the anti-Trump total moves closer to 73 million. Impeaching and removing Donald Trump would make him what most voters wanted him to be when they cast their ballots in 2016: a citizen who does not hold the office of president.

Why is it a reasonable assumption that the millions of voters who cast their ballots for third-party contenders were also disinclined to make "the Donald president?

Or stated in a different way, why should it be assumed that the millions of voters who were disinclined to make "the Donald" or Hillary president would have voted for Hillary over "the Donald" if they were only able to vote in an either/or situation?

With no evidence either way, it could just as easily be argued that "the Donald" would have gotten those extra 7.2 Million votes and had won the popular election by over 3 million.

And at the end of the day, we are talking the Popular Vote. Which, as you know, means nothing.

73 million voters voted against Trump. They could have voted for him, but they didn't for obvious reasons. When Trump insists "the will of the people" selected him, he ignores that the majority of people voting didn't want him. He also lied when he claimed he would have won the popularity contest if only millions had not voted illegally against him. He is a conman and 6ix is a fool to not see his explanations are half-ass and all wrong.

Another bit of Trump's phony-baloney from today: Trump thinks the courts might save him from impeachment. It doesn’t work like that. Asked during a Q&A session with reporters whether he’s concerned about getting impeached, Trump said, “I can’t imagine the courts allowing it. I’ve never gone into it — I never thought that would even be possible to be using that word. To me it’s a dirty word, the word ‘impeach.’ It’s a dirty, filthy, disgusting word.”

When Trump posted tweets suggesting he’d appeal his impeachment to the Supreme Court, the courts have nothing to do with it. Impeachment is a congressional process: Without a dramatic change in the Constitution, Trump’s suggestion of appealing an impeachment conviction to the Supreme Court is genuinely absurd. The Constitution establishes that “the House ... shall have the sole Power of Impeachment” and that “the Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments.”

Trump and 6ix are ignorant on nearly everything they have strong opinions on.

Majority of Americans Still Oppose Impeachment

Democrats are increasingly in favor of impeaching President Donald Trump, with 76 percent saying they support the move to oust the president from office, according to a new CNN poll. That marks a seven-percentage-point increase from April when support for impeachment stood at 69 percent among Democrats, according to the poll conducted by SSRS.

Among Americans as a whole, support for impeachment increased only slightly to 41 percent, up from 37 percent last month. On the opposite end, 54 percent are opposed to impeachment. And despite the slight uptick, it is hardly the highest it has ever been compared to the 47 percent who supported impeachment in September 2018.

The president’s constant soundbite that he is under attack by Democrats appears to be working as 65 percent say he is facing more investigations than any previous president. But that doesn’t mean the public think the investigations are unfair. Almost half of Americans, or 47 percent, say the investigations are justified, while 44 percent say they are not. That is pretty much divided among party lines, with 75 percent of Democrats saying the investigations are justified and 74 percent of Republicans saying they are not justified.

"We think that we have to bring the public along," House Majority Whip James Clyburn said. "We aren't particularly interested in the Senate. We do believe that if we sufficiently, effectively educate the public, then we will have done our jobs, and we can move on an impeachment vote and it will stand, and maybe it will be what needs to be done to incent the Senate to act."

Screw the polls and screw caring what public opinion is - what's the % on how many of them have read the Mueller report or pay any attention to what's going on or have a clue of how any of this even works? This is Congress's duty - it's a big reason why they are there. The Dems will out think themselves again and nothing will get done "to protect 2020" and the GOP will run them over and then what? If they don't press for impeachment now they are being as complicit in this bullsh*t as diehard, forever Trump Senate Republicans. How many professional legal minds need to say he's 100% guilty of obstruction before Dems believe that says he's stepping all over the constitution they're suppose to protect?

It will probably be next summer, not this summer.

Nancy Pelosi is sure that Trump damages the Republican Party and the longer he has to run his stupid mouth about his idiotic plans for trade wars, the more damage will be done. It also gives Pelosi more time to get Trump’s tax returns by taking it all the way to the Supreme Court, which moves very slowly. I’d bet Trump owes more taxes, penalties, and interest than his entire fortune is worth. The way he fights to keep the returns secret, he cheated big-time.

The closer this all happens to the 2020 election, the more voters will remember what the House investigation reveals about Trump’s tax cheating.

I'm legitimately interested in why you feel that Trump won't get another 4 years when his approval rating is comfortably above 45%, any Democrat primarying that has any legitimate policy ideas are in the low single digits, Joe Biden looks to be his likeliest competitor and the Democrats don't have a single message to run against him except for "we're not Trump".

You have to keep in mind that if Joe Biden is the pick, the Democrats are going to lose a lot of the rabid extreme left that voted for Hillary in 2016 since he's just another old white guy.

And though I have strong opposition to anybody saying that the economy is doing great now under Trump, it hasn't gotten any worse in 2 1/2 years after nearly a decade and a half of steady decline before that.

Let's also not forget that the popular vote means nothing since whenever Democrats win they forget to bring up the issue for 4 to 8 years at a time until they lose again.

Dems are going to have to deal with that pesky Electoral College again in 2020.

JO, sometimes I wonder where your head is at.

How does the USA attacking Iran help Putin?

They're not exactly allies but Russia and Iran are both defending Syria from (yet another of) our "regime change" operations and Russia has vowed to defend Iran from (yet another of) our regime change operations in the Mideast. Plus, defending Iran from the USA would not only strain Russia's resources, it would also strain Russia's relations with Israel.

So... What are you suggesting, and why? Your post makes no sense at all unless I'm misunderstanding something

Jesus. Every American should read this. Mueller and the office of the special counsel have directly punted this to congress.

They explicitly stated that they were not going to make a judgement recommending prosecution, as that was beyond their scope (I call bullshit, but don't take my word for it - go find the federal prosecutors and law professors arguing against that conclusion), but if they could recommend an exoneration, they would.

In their view, congress has the responsibility for bringing charges of misconduct, and that ensures that nobody is above the law. In the same breath, they say that they COULD NOT recommend exoneration.

This is careful and subtle legal argumentation, but the obvious conclusion is that the special counsel thought it was the role of congress to prosecute based on the evidence laid out in the report.

Combined with the open letter from federal prosecutors saying that the details amount to obstruction, and Law professors chiming in saying the same, it seems clear that congress is well founded in pursuing impeachment, and we have a criminal in chief.

That says nothing of the spin-off investigations involving "Individual 1" in the Manafort and Cohen cases, repeated emoluments violations, general instability and stupidity, abuse of tariff powers, diplomatic failures, and the violation and disparagement of American institutions and global human rights/democracy.

This is fucking bizarro world. I can't believe this has gone on so long.

We might be able to actually end this fascism, and restore a semblance of democracy.

The evidence is abundant.

Trump's Tax Evasion

The majority owner of the former Trump Panama hotel, who made headlines in March 2018 when he physically forced the Trump Organization out of the building using armed agents, is asserting that he has found documents proving the Trump Organization evaded Panamanian taxes.

The allegation comes from a new legal filing in the continued conflict between the Trump business and Orestes Fintiklis, an investor from Cyprus who owns the company that owns a majority stake in the hotel, which is now a Marriott.

According to the Washington Post, the filing, made in federal court in New York City on Monday, alleges that after the Trump Organization was ejected, Fintiklis was able to look at the hotel’s records and found that the company had not paid the 12.5 percent tax on management fees it collected. Fintiklis also said the company avoided some taxes by underreporting the hotel employees’ salaries. He didn’t say how much the tax bill would amount to, but he argued his company could face millions in liability if Panama comes seeking the taxes that the Trump Organization (which is still owned by President Donald Trump but run by his two sons) failed to pay. Fintiklis also said his company would not have purchased its share of the hotel back in 2017 if the Trump Organization had been honest about its failure to pay those taxes.

Who gives a fuck? You could substitute any high-level government / deep state official in there - Hillary, Bill, Bush and Bush, Nancy ... Bush (the dumbya version) is even an indicted war criminal in many foreign nations. Aside from the fact that it probably curtailed his post-presidential vacationing, nothing came of it. And you certainly don't seem to care.

So UNLESS YOU CAN SHOW ME YOU HAVE AN EVEN-HANDED JUDGMENT OF ALL PARTIES YOUR POSTS ARE JUST SO MANY FARTS.

Trump said much the same in that article about his hotel: It's not me who is a tax cheat, it's the guy who says I'm the tax cheater who is the real tax cheater. Trump's fortune is built on cheating small sums and LARGE. Hillary, Bill, they can't match Trump in cheating ability. Also, they are not President of the Internal Revenue Service.

When the man on top boasts that taxpaying is beneath him, he threatens the whole system.

The disclosure this past week that Donald Trump accumulated a staggering $1.17 billion in losses from 1985 to 1994 was not, in itself, terribly surprising to anyone who has followed the president’s financial travails. That’s because the same New York Times reporters who broke the story — and who won a Pulitzer Prize for their prior investigations into his personal finances — had previously unearthed state tax returns from 1995 showing that Trump claimed tax losses of close to $1 billion. What’s truly stunning, however, is how he responded to the news.

Rather than attributing the losses to business troubles from which he ultimately bounced back, the president insisted instead that the losses were conjured up to avoid taxes. The man who sits two rungs above the IRS commissioner in the executive branch’s organizational chart bragged about tax cheating.

Anyone who has been following Trump-related tax news over the past several years should know by now that the president’s attitude toward tax compliance is cavalier, if not contemptuous. Still, seeing him brag about bilking the IRS should shake every American who strives to fulfill his taxpaying obligations. Trump’s tweet is reminiscent of a remark attributed to real estate mogul Leona Helmsley, who said that “only the little people pay taxes.” The difference is that Helmsley landed in prison, while Trump landed in the White House.

Trump knows that most of the tax gap between what is owed and paid – $387 billion – comes from taxpayers underreporting income. Approximately half of the net tax gap ($203 billion) comes from underreported pass-through business income, Trump's specialty.

This is not a "big secret": the IRS revenue lost is about $3.44 trillion and that is despite having tax info on everyone, including Trump. Tax-compliance rates are much higher than a calculation of risks of being caught would imply. We don’t pay our taxes just because we’re afraid of getting caught; we also feel a responsibility to contribute to the common good. Trump's made it very clear about his feelings of irresponsibility and that he won't be caught.

Actually, the IRS is working for the GOP, which has steadily reduced the number of tax auditors looking into, say, Trump's tax returns.

The 2018 government funding bill, which the House and Senate have now passed, doesn’t include enough Internal Revenue Service (IRS) funding. That’s particularly glaring as the IRS starts implementing a new tax law that creates massive new tax evasion opportunities.

Russia's manipulation of Twitter was far vaster than believed

Russia's infamous troll farm conducted a campaign on Twitter before the 2016 elections that was larger, more coordinated and more effective than previously known, research from cybersecurity firm Symantec out Wednesday concluded.

The Internet Research Agency campaign may not only have had more sway — reaching large numbers of real users — than previously thought, it also demonstrated ample patience and might have generated income for some of the phony accounts, Symantec found.

"Maybe every Trump voter is a crook" would be a more likely hypothesis. I've got a great deal of data to prove that hypothesis with all the crooked Trump voters I have fired for stealing power tools, stealing diesel fuel, embezzlement. I recently spent $20,000 to nail a Trump voter who stole 1,500 gallons of fuel, all so that the Harris County prosecutor could make a deal with the crooked Trump voter for only 30 days suspended sentence, a fine, and restitution to me. It was worth it to convict that self-righteous Christian. The Christian Trump voter went on-and-on about how this was a momentary weakness, how sorrowful he felt, and that he had never done such a thing before. That was a lie, but the last time he did it I could prove it was him. It is the same dynamic with Trump -- he has been cheating on his taxes for decades, but it takes expensive detective work to prove even one instance.

SIGNYM

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I'm going to explain my "race to the finish" post, as it was somehwat obscure.

As has been made plain to me over and over by various pundits, impeachment isn't a LEGAL process, it's a POLITICAL one. It isn't necessary for House Democrats in this case) or House Republicans (in Bill's case) to find and develop evidence of an actual "crime"; all the Democrats need to do is round up enough votes for impeachment proceedings and take a vote.

So impeach, already!

I think that the House (and Senate) Democratic leadership have no intention of impeaching, for a variety of possible reasons:

1) It's unpopular with Independents
2) It will probably be doomed to failure in the Senate
3) It might provoke the Trump administration to declassify and dump the dirt that they have on key Democrats
4) Even if, in their wildest dreams they succeed they would be facing Pence in 2020, which may be worse than facing Trump

They just want to keep the talk alive all the way up to the 2020 elections wihout actually going thru with it, so they can make political points for the foreseeable future.

However, their "base" - and most of their candidates - are pretty fired up about impeachment, and they may push the leadership farther than the leadership wants to go.

So impeach already!

From Trump's perspective, he may have a couple of options in mind:

1) He may need to rely on the Senate as a bulwark against impeachment proceedings. Now, much of the Senate might still consist of "old guard" Republicans who are either just as globalist as the Democrats (think Rockefeller and the Bushes) or just as big neocons (thnk McCain and Graham). I would need to do a "head count" and see if this is the case. But if this is true, then the Democratic rumblings for impeachment might be causing Trump to have to pander to the warhawks more than he would like, unable to move forward on key parts of his foreign policy, OR

2) He may not give a fuck because he knows that Barr has evidence of indictable crimes by the former high-ranking DOJ, intelligence, and Democratic officials, including Obama and Hillary.

3) However, since Barr is developing a LEGAL case (unlike impeachment, which is a politial process) it will take time to interview witnesses and collate the evidence, made worse by key people (Steele, Mueller) refusing to cooperate. (I noticed that Steele has agreed to cooperate with Inspector General Horowitz, but not with Prosecutor Dunham.) By the time the evidence is developed to the point of indictment, it may be too close to the election and the Democrats would howl that the indictments were meant to manipuate the election ... as I recall there's supposed to be a six-month "blackout" window before the election, which leaves Barr until roughly April 2020 to bring indictments against people. (I also noticed that Barr is completely ignoring anything Huber might have done, or might be doing. Apparently Huber was just a figurehead, meant to lull people into believing that "something" was being done.)

But I also wonder if that blackout period applies to impeachment as well. Can you beging impeachment proceedings within six months of an upcoming election? Or is this an uneven playing field?
