Brett Kavanaugh argued that a sitting President should be above the Law. That is exactly what Trump wants. “I believe it vital that the President be able to focus on his never-ending tasks with as few distractions as possible. The country wants the President to be ‘one of us’ who bears the same responsibilities of citizenship that all share. But I believe that the President should be excused from some of the burdens of ordinary citizenship while serving in office,” argued Kavanaugh in the law-review article. He then asserted that “the indictment and trial of a sitting President, moreover, would cripple the federal government, rendering it unable to function with credibility in either the international or domestic arenas. Such an outcome would ill serve the public interest, especially in times of financial or national security crisis.” www.thenation.com/article/brett-kavanaugh-argued-sitting-president-law/ The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

Quote:Originally posted by second: Quote:Originally posted by 6IXSTRINGJACK: That's not the argument. Stop quoting one sentence when you reply to somebody. Do Right, Be Right. :)An argument, where we come to some agreed upon truth, is only possible between people who are trying to understand. You are not to be trusted, 6ix, to do that work. But it's not my burden to explain something in great detail, with examples designed specially for you, that will get through your thick skull and save your life. It is your life, not mine, so ruin it however you please. Remember: you can't be all that smart, 6ix, and also fuck up your life like you did and are doing. I don't expect you to understand. The ethical and moral standards inside the White House have dropped so low that even on the way out the door, conservatives are painting the comically corrupt former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt as a martyred hero victimized by the hysterical liberal media. “I am just so disappointed in the president’s failure to support Scott against the angry attacks from the loony left,” Republican donor Doug Deason told Politico. “Nothing he did amounted to anything big. He was THE most effective Cabinet member by far.“ It’s impossible to build an administration that’s entirely scandal-free. But you can vet people properly, you can drum-out malefactors who slip through the cracks, and you can build an institutional culture in which team members are rewarded for exposing impropriety rather than rewarded for covering it up. But inside the Donald Trump White House, grifters, abusers, racists, and harassers still get hired; they lurk around the Oval Office after they’ve been found out; and even in the rare instance where they’re forced out, it’s only grudgingly. Bill Shine, for example, came on board last week to run White House communications. He got fired from his last job as president of Fox News for his role in orchestrating a massive, multi-year cover-up of widespread sexual harassment and sexual assault of employees. The White House didn’t note this in the press release. His wife, Darla, meanwhile, has a habit of tweeting inaccurate anti-vaccination memes and a ton of racist stuff, but leading conservative commentators take the view that, since she is nice to her friends, quoting her accurately amounts to a liberal smear campaign. Then there’s White House staff secretary Rob Porter, who was eventually forced out once it came to light that he’d beaten up a couple of his wives but the White House could never quite get its story straight on exactly what happened, seemingly because Chief of Staff John Kelly had known the facts and tried to cover them up. About a month later, Trump decided he missed Porter and wanted him back, which didn’t happen, but Kelly obviously wasn’t punished for the coverup. Jim Jordan, a leading House conservative, stands accused by a half-dozen former Ohio State University wrestlers of turning a blind eye to routine sexual abuse of young athletes. And both President Trump and his colleagues are rallying behind Jordan with the preposterous theory that it’s all a conspiracy cooked up by the “deep state”. What is really striking thing about the current state of Republican Party politics is not the handful of crooks and spouse abusers who’ve been forced out of their jobs, but the petulant and foot-dragging manner in which they’ve been cashiered, the continued tolerance for so many apparent malefactors, and the evident lack of desire to even attempt anything resembling a proper house-cleaning. Trump’s administration is full of kooks and crooks because it’s led by Donald Trump. Nothing can realistically be done about it because there’s no way to hold your team to any kind of normal standard of conduct when Donald Trump is captain of the ship. Corruption is not exactly new to American politics. But never before in American history has the president of the United States been a person whose entire career has been devoted to enriching himself. Donald Trump is first and foremost a greedy person, and despite his campaign season promises to set avarice aside and “be greedy for the United States,” he has, in practice, relentlessly monetized the presidency. He has refused to divest from his business, refused to engage in any meaningful financial disclosure, and clearly encourages business and others with interest in the policy process to cut him in on a piece of the action by holding events at his clubs and hotels. Members of his exclusive Florida beach club (annual membership fee: $200,000) get choice tours of Air Force One. Pay Trump, get a tour. There were many Trump voters blaming Obama, when I know their problems are caused completely by themselves. They never understood that they need to fix themselves or at least stop making excruciatingly stupid mistakes; you know the kind: cheat on your wife or embezzle from your employer or drive drunk or buy what you can't pay for or a thousand other idiotic things Republicans are prone to do, then pray for the Lord's forgiveness on Sunday. The only reason things are as tight for me as they are now is because even though I have access to a ton of credit, unlike the guy making $30-35k per year with a mortgage, I refuse to put anything on credit that I can't pay off at the end of the month. Do Right, Be Right. :)6ix writes "very small percentage". You are wrong as usual: 29% (20.6 million) of homeowners own their home outright. West Virginia tops the state list with the highest percentage of free and clear homeowners (45%) followed by Louisiana (39%) and Arkansas (38%). The poorer the state, the more likely the mortgage has been paid-off. There is a strong connection between being a Trump voter with a low income and having primitive ideas about money, credit cards, and mortgages. 6ixStringJack, I haven't got the time or interest to straighten out your hillbilly/white-trash ideas. But I will give you a clue: those ideas are why you are poor. www.zillow.com/research/free-and-clear-american-mortgages-3681/ The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

But some dumbed-down corollaries of their thinking have seeped into popular culture and been hijacked by the president’s defenders, who want to use its relativistic arguments to excuse his lies, and by right-wingers who want to question evolution or deny the reality of climate change or promote alternative facts.

Quote:Originally posted by second: There’s a reason presidents aren’t supposed to talk about monetary policy, and that’s the 1972 election. Back then, as we now know from his tapes, President Nixon was able to pressure then-Fed Chair Arthur Burns into cutting rates when he really shouldn’t have in the run-up to his reelection. The result was not only faster growth that helped Nixon secure a second term, but also what would eventually be much higher inflation that would take over a decade to wring out of the economy. And it’s something we still have to worry about today. That’s because lower rates are always good for a president’s short-term prospects, but aren’t always for the economy’s long-term ones. The only way to solve this problem, then, is to avoid it by keeping politicians out of monetary policy to begin with. It’s something Trump might learn the hard way. www.washingtonpost.com/business/2018/07/20/trump-will-regret-criticizing-federal-reserve/?utm_term=.9284294df776 The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

Bush was bad because he started wars that he had complete control of winning or losing. And then he lost them. Then there was the time Bush said, “All right. You’ve covered your ass, now.” I remember. Nearly everyone who voted for Trump does not. As for the economy, Bush or Obama had very little control.
