Not that hard to do

I was inspired by Jane0904's Dialog only story Two for Joy. Mal and Inara have another spat.

“Why did you contact the Guild?”

“I didn’t. They contact me.”

“You expect me to believe that?”

“No I don’t, but that don’t change the truth of it none. They waved me.”

“And you told them everything. You do know I could lose my license.”

“I told the truth if that’s what you’re getting at. I saw no need to lie to them.”

“Why not! You lie all the time. Just yesterday you told Badger that the job went smooth. Did you forget the gaping hole where my shuttle used to be?”

“That was business. This was about you. You want I should lie about you…about us?”

”I’m…I’m sorry, of course not. I should have contacted them before. It’s just with all the changes I kept putting…”

“Your shuttle?”

“You said your shuttle. The gaping hole, you said your shuttle.”

“I didn’t mean…”

“But yet you said it. We swapped bunks with Zoe so we could have more room.”

“I’m fully aware of the living arrangement Mal. I complain about you missing the laundry hamper almost daily.”

“You mention your shuttle. Complain that I spoke with the Guild. Seems you got a notion to change things back to the way things were?”

“Seriously, I think maybe you’re the one rethinking things”

“Me? You hear me complaining about all the frillies you have scattered about in there?”

“Well, I’ll be sure to have my, frillies, out of your way tonight.”

“Fine, I’ll have Janye lend a hand. Get you into one of the passenger dorms.”

“Guessed he’d have to since my shuttle is floating somewhere between here and Boros.”

“While we’re at it, I’ll send a wave to the Guild, tell ‘em I lied.”

“Good. Be a dear and let them know, I’ll be returning to Shinon very soon.”

There's nothing in the 'verse quite like good snarking between Mal and Inara. Good job! :)

Gotta echo slumming here and say you've really captured the essence of Mal & Inara's totally frustrating but totally believable relationship, especially when it comes to things like Inara's former/current role with the Companions' Guild. Though I gotta wonder just exactly what happened to cause Inara's shuttle to be sacrificed to save Serenity and her crew...

Ah, the banter, nicely done, like Joss says; it's love, is what it is.

Gotta know what happened to the shuttle.

Don't know how Inara's going to get back to Shinon with no shuttle, and no Mal to take her:)

I did smile at the snarky banter with Inara wanting to have her cake and eat it, without of course admitting that. What happened to the shuttle? Would like to see how you finally got them sharing quarters, I'm thinking that probably didn't go smooth either. Ali D :~)

I absolutley agree with the others - how did they start sharing quarters ans what happened to the shuttle?

Nicely done!!

The weight of the badge- Part 1
Little pre BDM story. Once again things don't go smooth and Mal finds himself face to face with the town Sheriff. Should be 2 maybe 3 parts.
