SHINYGOODGUY

I was bored and waiting for my son to finish with his work, so I decided to go see Big Hero 6.

Well, it was fun and entertaining and quite a relief from all the serious stuff going on in the world. It's set in the not too distant future and tells the story of some humans, robots and nerds who live in the town of San Fransokyo (yes, you read that right). A place where robots and robotics are a part of the daily life.

There's boy genius Hiro Hamada, who lives with his brother and Aunt Cas, who spends his time building and using his robots to comical ends and almost sitcom-like effect.
Older brother Tadashi has his hands full keeping up with his little brother, but he one day takes him to his "Nerd" Academy where he has completed work on his project - Baymax, a sort-of walking talking infirmary/nurse (a Healthcare Companion) built by Tadashi to help mankind, to great comic effect. Baymax is programmed to heal, and that becomes a great underlying theme in the story (a great lesson for young kids).

The animation reminded me of the late 80s early 90s style of TV animation, which I found quite soothing (gone are the M-TV like jump cuts, and frazzled sharped-edge drawings of the late 90s and early 2000s). Back to the story: Tadashi takes his brother to the Advanced Tech Institute where he created and built Baymax and there he meets fellow nerds that are working on various forms of robotics and tech. Once Hiro sees exactly what his brother has been up to, and he sees that this could be the challenge he craves as a boy genius - he wants in. So he develops a robotic tech that could revolutionize robotics for the forseeable future.

Well, I don't want to give away too much, so just go see it, if for nothing else than to have a little bit of fun for an hour and 45 minutes (approximate running time). Take the kids that are no younger than 5, there are some intense action scenes, but I promise you will not be bored. While I was watching the movie it reminded me of GOTG, but for the kiddie set. Here's how it's described by Sandy Schaefer of Screen Rant; "...Combining elements of Iron Man with Joss Whedon’s cult favorite Firefly, by the sound of it, the Big Hero 6 movie was co-written and co-directed by Don Hall"

The Firefly reference might be a tad much but, I could see the six characters being thrust together and going on a journey could be construed as Firefly-esque. It's good harmless entertaining fun, check your reality-induced skepticism at the door.
By the way, stay for the end credits.

As an aside, there are 2 voices (among many) that you might be interested in knowing voice characters in BH6 - Jamie Chung and Alan Tudyk (Yes, our Wash).
Just thought you might like to know.
