Hmmmmmmmmmmm....

I noticed something that everybody seems to be failing to mention here.

If you look at Thursday night Previews for both Toy Story 5 and The Odyssey, they were basically neck-and-neck with Odyssey pulling in $100k more than Toy Story 5's $17.5 Million, marking it as the largest preview night so far in 2026 by a hair...

But did you look at Friday's numbers for both movies, which include that preview number?

The Odyssey: $51,280,000

Toy Story 5: $71,109,759

Wow. That's quite a difference. Nearly 20 Million.

Those are just numbers though. Anybody can see those and report on them without putting much thought into it.

But see... here's the thing nobody is talking about...

Toy Story 5 is a kid-friendly family movie. The Odyssey is an R-Rated flick.

But $71 Million worth of people decided to go out on Thursday and Friday night after work with their kids to see the movie they could have seen at any time all weekend, but only $51 Million worth of people went out to see a movie that kids aren't allowed to see in a theater without an adult.

I think this means something pretty bad for The Odyssey in the longer term after any built-in front-loading plays out here. Especially with a 3 hour runtime cutting into the number of likely repeat viewings.

If there was only going to be one day where The Odyssey beat Toy Story 5 on opening weekend, I would have certainly thought it to be Friday night, and yet it was a blowout the other way.

And I'm still not convinced that Toy Story 5 is a Billion dollar movie before it's out of theaters. It very well could stall out right around where Nolan's Oppenheimer did.

You need $625 Million to break even here.

You've got a 99% Critic rating and a 97% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an "A" Cinemascore.

The entire Legacy Media and all the gay lefty websites are blowing this movie 24/7.

You've got all the momentum.

Don't fuck it up.

Yeah. They've literally been given everything they ever wanted on a silver platter here.

Even in a Media culture that has seen a lot of the wokisms muted and the critics finally coming out and calling a shit Disney movie a shit Disney movie after pretending all the woke crap over the last 10 years was great, they somehow all came together on this one movie. Even actors that aren't in it are all in on it.

And the media is using "Nolan" as a cudgel.

And I don't think that's very wise.

If you haven't seen my prediction here before... and it's purely speculation at this point... I believe that Christopher Nolan already had his acceptance speech for Best Picture for this movie written out before he even got the film greenlit.

He got $250 Million handed over to him easily after Oppenheimer, and then he got Absurd with it.

"You want forced diversity in everything? I'm going to make the dumbest fucking movie ever made. My casting choices will be the worst and most blatant form of race swapping ever seen. And I'm so crazy, I'll even replace Brad Pitt with Ellen Page. The film will be disjointed and relatively boring while offering nothing new. I'll even base it off of some dumb white feminist's rewrite. The media will blow it 24/7/365 until Oscar night, where it will sweep the awards even though it ended up being a dud if not a complete flop at the box office.

And when I accept that Best Picture award for a failure of a purposefully bad movie using the rules put on all of us and taking them to the max, I'm going to give you all a speech that will make Ricky Gervais jealous he couldn't have given it himself."

Contrary to what I think most people would believe if this were to happen, he's going to be the most sought director out there. And I think he knows this.

And his backup plan all along could have been "Hey... Maybe the people are stupid and deserve this movie. If it makes money and I don't get to give that speech, I'm still rich and gainfully employed."

There's really no negatives on the ROI for this on his part.

I hope you enjoyed your extra $100k on preview night, because you got destroyed by Toy Story 5 on opening weekend.

Toy Story 5 (Weekend Total): $159,677,837
Friday: $71,109,759
Saturday: $47,755,375
Sunday: $40,812,703

The Odyssey (Weekend Total): $124,500,000
Friday: $51,100,000
Saturday: $41,660,000
Sunday: $31,740,000

Toy Story 5 grossed $312 Million worldwide on opening weekend vs. only $264 Million for The Odyssey

The Hype Machine is in full cope, but at the end of the day, this movie got spanked by the 4th direct sequel to a kids IP that came out before I was in High School.

One that likely will not be grossing over $1 Billion after just limping over $900 Million on its 5th weekend.

Toy Story 5's second and third weekend drops were 56% and 57%, respectively.

Let's see how far The Odyssey falls in weekend 2.

And at the end of the day when this grosses less than Oppenheimer by quite a bit, they're still going to fawn all over it.

But that's just stupid.

Oppenheimer was about a guy who 99% of the dummies who went to see it never even knew his name or who he was. And that probably only happened because some marketing genius came up with the word Barbieheimer.

I doubt there is a single person in 1st world countries who doesn't at least know some of the characters and mythology behind The Odyssey. And despite the Legacy Media circling the wagons and going all-in on this one, the numbers are NOT good despite whatever these shit rags have to say to the contrary.

In Nolan's hands, The Odyssey should have been a $1.5 Billion movie.

Google AI, citing JoBlo, Deadline and Euronews, says that the industry expects a 60% drop for weekend two, or around only $50 Million gross Domestically, after taking into account the frontloaded Nolan fans and presales.

That's seriously not good, people. The opening was not good. It may have come in higher than the industry was predicting in the week leading up to the release, even by quite a bit, but it's still not good.

I don't understand why the media decides to lie about things like this. There's already so much distrust in the media as it is, and whether The Odyssey reached Two Billion or didn't crack $100 Million is just so trivial and meaningless in the grand scheme of things. (* Truthfully, it's not meaningless at all on a grand scale when it comes to deciphering what the general mood of the people is, and it is why I was tracking it so relentlessly there for a few years before it told me what I wanted to know. But it's not worth wasting so much trust on for so long when there are always far more important things for them to lie to all of us about.)

Why does the media waste so much of their capital on covering for failures with the message in them?

And they do it so much less frequently in 2026 than they did in 2020, but for some reason they all decided to join back together in some horrific woke Voltron to defend this slop.

Is this the last stand?

Is this the hill that they all choose to die on?

On this, the 10th anniversary of the movie that really started it all...

Ghostbusters: Answer The Call.

*And by started it all, I don't mean the beginning of the relentless Liberal agenda programming in the media. I mean the first movie that the normie sheep who don't really pay attention to nothing started paying attention.

THIS MOVIE NEEDS TO GROSS $625 MILLION TO BREAK EVEN.

That's not the direction we're headed here, folks.

Why is everyone lying to me and telling me this movie is doing great?

I heard somebody say that after Spider-Man comes out, there's not another money maker coming out until December.

If that's true, both of them should benefit from this fact.

But I'm thinking 3 weeks from now it's already not going to matter. If you haven't seen either The Odyssey or Spider-Man by mid-August and you just get a hankering to go to the theater to see a movie, which one do you think people are more likely going to choose?

I think unless Spider-Man is complete horseshit, that question doesn't even need to be asked.

I am now forced to do the responsible thing and fess up to where I messed up, because until the weekend numbers come in, I've got no idea what is going on anymore.

I was recently informed by a Thursday version of Google AI that Tuesday's version of Google AI is full of shit and was "hallucinating". It then went into pretty great detail about how it would have came to the erroneous conclusion that it was only expected by the industry to gross in the area of $50 Million on Weekend 2. Because I remembered which sources it was citing and let them know that information along with telling it that it told me only $50 Million a few days ago, it was able to give me a perfectly reasonable explanation of how it would have drawn that incorrect conclusion.

These details are boring and I won't bother putting them here

I'm just disappointed in the experience and getting quite annoyed at how frequently it seems that this AI is just plain fucking wrong so often that it makes you question if anything it's ever said to you or that it will say to you in the future is correct...

Could be. Flip a coin. I don't fuckin' know.

Suffice it to say, the industry does, and at least since Tuesday has expected that The Odyssey will gross between $61 and $84 Million on Weekend two.

$61 Million alone isn't going to change much of what I've said already. We would have to see what's happening by the 3rd weekend to get a much clearer picture.

$84 Million is a different story.

I think with $84 Million, $625 Million is more than likely.

Some are saying this movie needs $700 Million actually to break even, but I have not yet seen anything in the winds that makes me raise the RoT multiplier beyond 2.5x. I'm not actively searching for things like this, mind, but I have no doubt if they are out there they would be unearthed for this movie eventually without me having to bother.

Until somebody convinces me otherwise, this movie only needs $625 Million to break even. It does me no good to myself or anybody else to just go with the higher number I heard because I like that number. That's what Democrat voters do to make themselves feel better about themselves all the time. My temporary dopamine high from yelling "Take that! Now you need to make $700 Million!" is meaningless.

The people who had dogs in the race know exactly what they needed on return for them to consider this a win. And they will take that knowledge they learned here and apply that the next time a Producer comes around and they may not be so free to part with their alms. And I would bet that number varies Greatly from person to person and entity from entity. Make fun of "Producer Credits" given as gifts to prima dona actors all you want, but a real Producer is a God among men. They're the ones who go around and get everyone to cough up the dough.

And I think for a very long time, they might not really have been needed. What, with all that free Venture Capital that was floating around everywhere after Obama put us on virtually 0% interest and then we just didn't fucking raise it back up for forever...

Think of all of the crap and fucking trash that has been made in the last 10 years. Does anybody believe for a minute that half of that shit would have been made if people had to call up friends and call in all their favors to get a movie or a TV show the funding it needed to even get a chance at the starting line?

Honestly... I think that's why Harvey Weinstein really went down. Because Obama dropped the interest to 0% and we just had no interest in bringing it back up from there. Nobody needed that fat, ugly sack of shit who was always fornicating with the world's most beautiful and highly paid prostitutes the world has ever known anymore.

What Ted Bundy Clone doesn't understand, as he comes in here and dive bombs a dumb ass click bait video by three retarded white guys for a sweet shot of cheap dopamine, is that $700 Million gross worldwide on a movie that needed $625 Million to break even... especially one THIS politically charged, is not a safe or wise investment strategy.

It's gambling.

This movie needs to do a LOT more than just eek out a win.

Or don't expect many more like it going forward.

Not when they can make a dumbass, non-woke, entirely apolitical movie like Top Gun 2 and gross nearly $1.5 Billion. And they only needed to make $488 Million to break even on that one. Whoever invested in that movie got to share a pool of profits right around One Billion before Uncle Sam pinned them all down and sodomized them.

This is either a MASSIVE troll by Christopher Nolan on everyone as I've suspected since the beginning, or it was The Last Stand for this type of behavior in Hollywood.

And you've lost.

They won't continue risking this kind of money for fuckin' peanuts after shitting their Depends every day over it for 6 months straight.

How many people invested in this movie and how much? If it grosses $700 Million, they're splitting $75 Million and then Uncle Sam is going to take a big fucking wet bite out of whatever that split is.

But if it grossed what Oppenheimer did? And extra $250+ Million to the pot?

Now that might be worth shitting your pants for 6 months.

I don't know...

I don't gamble.

It's not my particular vice.

A movie's economic life grew from a few months in theaters to decades of continuous retail and rental income. Ancillary post-theatrical markets historically account for roughly 30% to 50% of a film studio's total lifetime revenue.

Streaming & TV Licensing: Substantial long-tail income comes from licensing deals with cable networks, subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platforms, and airline rights, though individual film payouts vary widely based on exclusive windows.

Movie ticket sales are only a small part of Universal's income from The Odyssey. 6ix, why do you keep thinking that ticket sales reveal everything about a movie's profitability? If movie ticket sales were the only source of income, then all shows exclusively on TV/streaming/cable must have been made as a tax-deductible charitable contribution to society's culture, not for profit.

That's essentially what they have been for 10 years with Obama's 0% interest rate hanging on forever and everyone greenlighting everything put on their desks written by a vagina or anyone as dark as Mariah Carey or darker.

Above that, Netflix was hemorrhaging money and never saw a single quarter profit until 2023. Disney + doesn't know what profit is since it's never seen any.

Poor Ibram X. Kendi.

He was just about to get his "children's book" for white liberal parents who hate their kids My Anti-Racist Baby turned into a cartoon.

Then the rug was pulled and he and about 200 other minorities and/or women who had projects in development for Netflix all lost the entire thing. None of the shit was made anymore.

Why do you think that is?

Why do you think that in 2023 Netflix finally posted it's first quarterly profit and has managed to be profitable every quarter since?

the movie starts to suffer overseas

Tom Holland vs Tom Holland?
once #SpiderManBrandNewDay arrives that will be a death blow to its run in cinema

I see this stuff better with a graph chart. So the numbers have not fully come in but in week 2 we are looking at what $65 million or 90 million or 55 million?

The Odyssey

Weekend Range: $75M – $85M

We are looking at a strong hold for The Odyssey the second time around. We wouldn’t be surprised if this movie comes in $5M above or under our forecast, as walk-up sales outside of premium auditoriums remain a wildcard factor for the film’s performance in week 2.

needs a strong overseas but overseas numbers are slightly weaker than US domestic

Nolan's "The Odyssey" has been criticized
https://x.com/YuhkaUno/status/2056283710807482432
for things like armor design not looking Greek and the casting of Black actors as ancient Greeks. In response, Greeks are saying things like, "There are no Greek actors in this movie," and "Anglo-Saxons aren't ancient Greeks either."

ok we have some figures, its beating Oppenheimer by a lot but its only somewhat ahead of that Superman reboot which got mixed reviews...its moving a bit like Jurassic World Rebirth was, even ahead of it but Jurassic 'Dinosaurs' are popular with kids, the Dinosaurs had a very strong overseas and strong long run in the seats
currently beats Oppenheimer but Oppenheimer had good staying power and its not beating Barbie or Mario, Despicable Me 4, Inside Out 2, A Minecraft Movie, Ironman 3 not anywhere near these movie earnings

Did you see anything saying specifically that it's not doing well overseas?

Otherwise, I don't think it's lagging with that $164 Million.

Sometimes on big movies like this they show some of the updates through the week, but not all of them.

Opening weekend internationally was $139.6 million.

So it did get a $24 Million addition somewhere. That could be up to date as of Thursday, but I think it seems pretty unlikely. Maybe it was the IMAX money they earned through Thursday, or everything but the IMAX money? I don't know when it was added or where it came from.

If a big movie is doing healthy overseas, it will gross roughly the same amount it made 1st weekend by the end of the 2nd weekend, so if it's not hurting overseas we'll have about another $140 Million international by Monday morning, or around $280 Million in total.

Domestic (58.3%)
International (41.7%)

Week Box Office Est. - New Zealand

1. #TheOdyssey - $2.80M
2. #Moana - $882k
3. #ToyStory5 - $601k

Moana could be artificially high in NZ I'm not sure but culturally they are almost a very similar same-ish Native Americas Samoan Hawaii people. A unique mix in NZ, a mix of WASP and Scottish with these Kiwi Maori Pacific island people. Even if the cartoom animation movie features a fictional Polynesian language I think New Zealand would appreciate that cultural diversity reflecting heritage of the Pacific Islands.

European cinema I believe was on a downward trend in general, it falls with recessions, Merkel distrubs Europe economically opening the door to muzzie invaders, I believe in general European cinema ticket seats are down 5-10% but maybe there is some 'balance' as prices have increased...I think there is a general feeling of public uncertainty with sanctions and actual war

Germany, the British, French markets used to be big guys but not anymore

European markets are showing slow growth or overall decline, it was going down in 2015 maybe 2016 but especially down after Covid. Hollywood and the US market in general is down from the peak years.

The Japan market is a strange one, they tend to be slow to translate pictures or slow to have movies exported to their cinemas. The Japanese, for their population size in cinema seats they dont seem to sell that big, maybe they are over worked, maybe they go to karaoke bars or watch cartoons or play too many video games at home
The Japanese demographic is also rapidly aging with people having fewer kids.

Italy, Spain and Poland have grown, there is a rise in other markets China, Brazil, India, Vietnam etc

Australia and New Zealand are smaller markets

Production costs?
if budgets were kept low, Hollywood would not need to depend so much on overseas earnings

I think it's hilarious that for 2 weeks straight, Moana has had quite a bit more theaters than The Odyssey.

It's just stupid how much control Disney has in Hollywood. It doesn't even make any sense to have a failure that huge still have more theaters on The Odyssey's 2nd weekend.

We'll see...

Well is $700 Million and eeking out a profit. If something changes and that's all it makes, don't bet on anything else like it for a very long time.

They're out there celebrating this thing after a string of about 40 losses in a row, so if it's just going to be gambling going forward, they're going to start making safer bets now that the Venture Capital all dried up and they actually have to hunt down people and ask them to invest the money again.

If it makes what Oppenheimer did, that's going to suck because we probably will see more of this slop shit. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. Hollywood always tends to take all the wrong lessons and throw away the ones it should be learning, and they'll fuck it up.

What's next? The Iliad? Maybe some Muslim mysticism? Or Jewish, perhaps? We can finally learn about how Shit Golems are created.

How do you suppose that the Polly Pocket movie starring Phil Collins' daughter is going to do after they decided that would be the next big thing after Barbie did what Barbie did?

If she comes out and says stupid shit like these idiots do, it's going to make less than Supergirl did. She's a little older though. Probably a little wiser too. And her old man is a low-key badass.

6ix, I understand that you still think that only movie ticket sales determine whether a movie was a financial success, but that is NOT true.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023) is a historical financial anomaly where an R-rated, three-hour biopic acted as a massive theatrical engine, shifting the revenue balance significantly back toward ticket sales. While Tenet had to rely on home ecosystems for survival, Oppenheimer capitalized on a staggering $972.2 million global box Office run.

According to financial accounting breakdowns published by Deadline, the total revenue returned to Universal Pictures stood at $721.9 million.

Total Revenue Breakdown

Non-ticket sources brought in a combined $300 million, meaning exactly 41.6% of the movie’s total studio revenue came from sources other than ticket sales.

• Theatrical Ticket Revenue (Studio Share): $421.9 million (58.4% of total)
o Note: This is the portion of the $972.2M box office cash returned to Universal after theaters took their cut.

• Television & Streaming Licensing: $170.0 million (23.5% of total)
o This includes international broadcast, pay-cable syndication, secondary digital windows, and the internal fee Universal paid itself to stream the film exclusively on Peacock.

• Home Entertainment (VOD & Physical Sales): $130.0 million (18.1% of total)
o Driven by a prolonged four-month window before digital release and massive demand for premium 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs.

Key Financial Insights

• The Power of the Window: Christopher Nolan contractually mandated a strict seven-month theatrical window before Oppenheimer could stream on Peacock. This intentionally protected the high-margin theatrical and home entertainment purchase windows, extracting maximum value from consumers before making it "free" on a subscription service.

• Profit vs. Expenses: Against the $721.9 million in total revenue. Universal incurred $520 million in total expenses—including a modest $100 million production budget, $170 million in marketing, and a massive $175 million in backend "participation" payouts to Nolan, the producers, and the star-studded cast. https://deadline.com/2024/05/oppenheimer-movie-profits-1235900658/

• Studio Net Profit: Ultimately, the film generated a massive $201.9 million in pure net profit for Universal Pictures.

‘The Odyssey’ Gives Us the Hero We Deserve

By B.D. McClay | July 26, 2026

Some people are going to tell you that the problem with Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is that it’s about modern people, not ancient people. Not me. It is about modern people, but so is everything else made by modern people. If you want to encounter the ancient world, you have to open a book. (Homer is available in several translations; I like Richmond Lattimore’s.)

Other people are going to tell you that the problem with Mr. Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is that he’s using an ancient text to revisit his own preoccupations: heroism, guilt, memory and the nature of time. Not me. I like an artist who’s not afraid to keep gnawing at the same bone.

No, for me the problem with Mr. Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is something else. It’s Odysseus.

One thing that may strike contemporary readers of Homer is that Odysseus is one of a handful of epic heroes whose motivations actually make sense to us. He doesn’t want to be in Troy; he wants to be home. He is devious and clever without being an out-and-out scoundrel, and he’s generally motivated by curiosity and a thirst for knowledge.

In Mr. Nolan’s hands, however, wily Odysseus becomes a different, if still recognizable, type: the halfway hero. He’s a man who in some way fails to be a father, a man who dirties himself in the name of a higher cause but then discovers that the cause wasn’t worth it, a man with the power to change the world but who, in the end, either fails to do so or makes the world worse.

Much more at https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/opinion/odysseus-christopher-nolan.

Odysseus’s Confession | Christopher Nolan’s God-Haunted ‘Odyssey’

Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster seems at times more biblical than Homeric.

By Luis Parrales | July 26, 2026, 8 AM ET

https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/2026/07/christopher-nolan-odyssey-
bible-god/688059
/

Toward the end of Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus and Penelope finally see each other after 20 years apart. Odysseus, disguised as “an ancient old man” by the goddess Athena, tells Penelope that her husband will return to kill the suitors who have tormented her. “Not one will avoid his death and destruction,” he says. This is Homer’s protagonist: wily, aided by a god, and eager for revenge—reflective of a culture that prized honor, strength, and fealty to a set of interventionist deities.

This is not, however, Christopher Nolan’s protagonist. At key moments in the recent blockbuster adaptation of the ancient-Greek poem, Odysseus’s story seems more biblical than Homeric.

In the film, when Odysseus reunites with Penelope, he hasn’t been turned into an old man. Nolan keeps his identity secret through more naturalistic means: a dimly lit room, a cloak over his body, and latticed sliding doors that separate the two characters. The doors, which are not found in Homer’s poem, are evocative of the screen between priest and penitent in Catholic confession—a setting that Nolan, who was raised Catholic, would be familiar with. And although in Homer’s poem, Odysseus is thirsty for retribution, Nolan emphasizes a different emotion in this scene, one that is integral to the confessional and to Christian life as a whole: contrition.

Odysseus describes deep guilt over his central role in a famous episode of the Trojan War: when Greek soldiers hid inside a wooden horse to trick the people of Troy into letting them into their city. “We left them a gift,” he tells his wife, “an offering of peace, that they took into their home.” In sacking Troy, Odysseus says, he and his fellow soldiers “violated all that’s ever sacred between people”—he recognizes a link between mistreating humanity and disrespecting divinity. He confesses that he “lost his way,” not just temporally or physically but in his soul.

Other aspects of Nolan’s adaptation feel biblical, even Christian, rather than Homeric—a quasi-baptism scene at sea, for example, and the conspicuous absence of the references to sex that populate the poem. The core principle of the film’s moral universe seems to echo the Bible. “Treat others as you would be treated,” Penelope declares early in the film, expressing an ethic that various characters refer to as “Zeus’s law.” Many versions of the idea exist, in secular and religious forms. But in the film, Penelope’s words sound more like Jesus’s Golden Rule than anything in Homer, where the heroes—though bound to host strangers as if they might be gods in disguise—seek to achieve glory more than convey empathy.

The film’s treatment of Odysseus’s lies, too, seems consonant with the Ten Commandments instead of Homer’s moral worldview. In the poem, Odysseus’s lies are often portrayed positively, as evidence of his intelligence and resourcefulness—when he tricks the Cyclops, for example. In the film, however, Odysseus’s falsehoods have dire consequences, an apparent reflection of the biblical assertion that false witness is a sin. Odysseus tasks a young soldier named Sinon—a character who does not appear in the poem—with offering the horse to the Trojans. But he doesn’t tell Sinon that its purpose is to attack the city. Sinon dies as a result of Odysseus’s deception. Later, in Hades, he admonishes his commander: “Did you have to lie to me?”

So did Christopher Nolan make a Christian film, which the Daily Wire founder Ben Shapiro and others have suggested since the movie’s release? Not quite. As my colleague Gal Beckerman wrote, Nolan diminishes the role of the gods, treating them as socially useful but not necessarily real. It’s hard to call definitively “Christian” a movie that regards the divine as a possible fantasy. The film is God-haunted, though. Homer may have viewed Odysseus’s deceit and pillaging as glorious. Nolan’s adaptation seems to pass a different judgment. Animated in part by the wisdom of the Bible, this modern Odyssey can’t help but see how the deceptions of war degrade a person and a culture.
