I'm very excited about this. Saturday, April 23rd is the second annual 24-Hour Comic Book Day! I participated in this last year, and I highly recommend it as an exercise in forced creativity. Comics are an excellent medium for self-examination, catharsis, or philosophy. They also can be silly, ironic, funny, educational, action-packed, fantastical, gritty, or anything you want!

Best of all, you get to have fun with a lot of fun people and stay up all night! Yay!

In a nutshell, the concept is that you create a 24 page comic in 24 hours. The later the night gets, the more the subconscious begins to direct the tone and content of the work. :)

You don't even need to be a good artist to do it. Goodness knows I'm not! I firmly believe that all people should create art. Our society has a tendancy to encourage talented artists to create, while less talented people are afraid to put pen to paper. They're ashamed of their stick figures. However, the creation of art can open up doors inside yourself and reveal things you didn't know about yourself. And in a situation like this, there's no distractions of work or home. Unless you work in a comic book store. :)

So, check out the link below and sign up at your local comic book store! And while you're there, pre-order the Serenity comics. ;)

Or you can be one of the lonely souls who takes up this task solo in the dark recesses of their hearts and homes. Hmm... Has a kind of poetry to it.

If any Phoenix people want to heckle me or join me, I'll be at Samurai Comics near 7th St. and Camelback from 10am Saturday to 10am (hopefully) Sunday, April 23-24.

See you there!
