Firefly, why not on prime time in Australia?

I am mystified as to why channel 7 here in Australia is only airing Firefly after midnight.

I think Universal studios should put some pressure somehow on channel 7 to air Firefly at prime time. Surely exposing as many people to Firefly as possible would have to benefit Serenity at the theatres. The benefit to Universal studios could be quite substantial.

Anyone agree? If so, any ideas as to how we could get this idea to somebody in a position to affect change?

Hmmm, ok then, too hard.

I guess i'll have to ensure Serenity succeeds over here by attending every session myself.

question- whereabouts in aus are u?? i am in a town where they only show firefly on the odd saturday night when their not showing some utterly ridiculous late night movie. plus showing them all completely out of order. trust me, if i knew how to contact Universal to get them to pressure ch. 7 and any other local networks such as my own, i would.
but best of luck with your endeavour!!

Newcastle, NSW

I wonder if Fox have continued their mismanagement of Firefly by demanding that networks give Firefly poor airing times..

I doubt very much if Universal is at all involved in whether or not 'Firefly' is shown and in what order,
because they don't own it.
'Firefly' still (and always will) belongs to Twentieth Century Fox.

However I know that in the USA if viewers call and talk to their local TV station (the one broadcasting the show) they can talk to the people there and discuss when the show will be aired. I would really encourage you to look up the phone number of the station, phone them during the working day, and ask to speak to the manager and/or the person in charge of schduling: at least let them know that people are watching and are frustrated by how hard it is to be able to see the show (because it is late, and out of order, etc).

our problem is we only have 4 main free to air stations and not that many people have cable. so all hte shows are put on these 4 channels...if not usually they get shown on the cable networks....

that said
I think it sucks that Firefly wasn't shown at a decent time here. 12:30-1 for a starting time was pathetic...and it always varied.
channel 7 who showed Buffy and Angel could have at least put it in the old Angel timeslot!
though I actually had a few friends who caught Firefly at the time it was shown...but didn't really get a chance to get into it, with it being so late.

Strangely enough, that's how I got into Firefly. Though I loved Buffy, I didn't even know Firefly existed. I'm a nightowl and somehow I managed to catch the pilot when they aired it here. I noticed it was made by Joss, so I decided to watch it instead of the infomercials. Thank goodness, cos as soon as it ended, I knew I was hooked.

It's also the way my best mate got into it, and she's now bought the DVDs.

I say: consider yourself lucky that it's even being show on TV in your country at all. As far as I know, it's not being aired at all in the U.S.

Were talking about a first time run of Firefly here in Australia. I'm pretty sure you guys in U.S have had a few runs now.

ROBINHOOD

It's never been shown here in the UK on Terestrial TV either, just on SciFi UK which you have to pay for. Someone here on this site is talking to a BBC insider about that. So something might happen there with any luck?

Yep..........................that went well!

There will be a marketing session with the folks from Universal next Thursday regarding the promotion of Serenity to Australian audiences. Some of the Browncoats who are going to the test screening on Wednesday will be attending, so we'll see what we can do about getting our message across to UIP. They're really keen to promote this and seem really open to our imput.
