Ok ok the future of Firefly is based on how this movie does. But how much would it have to make around to get the nod for another one. If it is successful then is there even a possibility for the tv series returning? I think if we want our firefly back we need to get the profit on the movie high!! Look at Enterprise their fans fought hard for its return and it still got canned (thank god). Your thoughts?

It won't be back on TV. Joss wants to make movies.

The future of FF lies in films. If Serenity does well we might get one or two more.

As for that Trek remark... It is a honourable fight in accordance to the legacy of the Trek franchaise. Also, season 4 has thus far rocked. Though the spoilers for the B&B-penned finale are slightly unsettling.

Actually, something that I have thought about is how a movie is almost perfect for FF right now (even though quantity wise, we'd all rather have the television series). I mean, one of the major elements of the series was River and her abilities. If the series had gone on, this plot would surely have taken 2-3 seasons to be resolved. Now we will get it in one explosive package, and hopefully lots of Alliance baddies too.

You mention Enterprise, and that offers only the slightest ray of hope. No, not for Firefly. That'll never return to the small screen. However, (and I'm speaking blindly hypothetical here) what of a chance of a spin-off ?

I know, not while F*X still holds the rights to Firefly, but one can certainly dream.

Hey, we got our BDM.... that alone is HUGE!

Fox television has no rights to Firefly.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

You are correct, FOX tv does not have the rights, but 20th Century Fox Studios does, not Universal, but that could change depending on how well the BDM does.

I have personally not given up hope that Firefly/Serenity might one day grace the small screen again. Joss has been very careful not to say anything that would jeopardize any deal he has with Universal, and for sure his time to be a major film director is due, but you know he also loves the pace that a television series allows.

Don't forget the quote that periodically appears at the top of this page, something like, "Serenity is a pretty butterfly, but I really loved that damn caterpillar."

I have been at several cons over the last year and saw panels with Joss. Every time someone asks him if Firefly will come back to TV. And every time Joss very diplomatically says, "No".

I know many fans hope differently but, I really think that if it ever comes back it will be many many years from now (after several movies) and it will be without any of the current actors.

I think lots of browncoats want Firefly back on TV. I often wonder whether that's what Joss wants or whether he wants it to remain a movie franchise. I'm sure he has to be diplomatic and support the movie format publicly. Wouldn't make Universal too happy if Joss basically said they are just a stepping stone for him to move on to something else.

I personally like having the long drawn out character development with twists and turns that make you think. For instance, who's more popular a character Book or Dobson? Dobson has the secret that he's a fed and we find out in the two our episode of Serenity. Then his arc is over and done. No where near as fun as the hints and wondering about Book's secret. I mean I can't wait to find out what Book's secret is but that's just it. That's usually most of the fun. Once the secret is revealed it won't be nearly as cool anymore. No listening intently to every word he says for hopes of clues. No speculation threads with other browncoats. That's why I don't like the quick burst stories that the movies will have to be. Though I'll take anything at this point.
