What is Joss's current intended viewing order, since FOX has screwed around around with the viewing order? I would say following the production order, but the "Previously..." segment contained a quote from "Our Mrs. Reynolds." I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as "Shindig" and "Safe" are next to each other, but I get a little bit obsessive about order, so FOX is really irritating me.

I don't think you got my point. The "Previously" segment for "Safe" (1AGE04) contains a clip from "Our Mrs. Reynolds" (1AGE05). Also, "Shindig" (1AGE03) and "Safe" both contained the new Mal Prologue. (It is also interesting to note that "Safe" re-entered production after the episode was wrapped to add another Simon flashback.) This would all imply that Joss & Co. are playing FOX's game, and that the new intended viewing order is as FOX is airing them. However, it would be nice to get direct confirmation from Joss himself.

(Note: I am ignoring "Serenity" right now because its chronological placement is obvious and because it hasn't even aired yet. Also, I'm not sure what the production numbers for those episodes are. Although I haven't confirmed it, I believe they are 1AGE79 for Part 1 and 1AGE80 for Part 2. This would make sense, because 1***79 is usually used as the production code for a production pilot. (Firefly doesn't have one.))

It's worth pointing out that intended viewing order needn't correspond to the numerical order of the episodes' production codes, as many people (though not in this thread) tend to assume. It's often the case that it does, and it is true of all Buffy and Angel to date, but it's certainly not necessarily the case.

The example that springs to mind is that of the British 60's TV series The Prisoner. When British TV station Channel 4 later bought the rights to repeat the series, they mistakenly started showing the episodes in production code order, which was clearly not the intended viewing order.

Do we know for sure that Fox are messing around with the order (apart from rejecting the pilot)? Without evidence to the contrary, it's quite possible that Joss and his team simply changed their mind as to the order they wanted to tell the stories after the production codes had been assigned...

Even assuming Fox have influenced the order to a greater or lesser degree, it's highly probable that:

(a) Mutant Enemy had at least some input into the decision, and

(b) that Mutant Enemy have made changes to episodes to accomodate the revised order in which they will air (particularly in the case of episodes where production wasn't completed when the decision was made)

In the ansence of any evidence to the contrary, I'm inclinded to assume that the order we're seeing the episodes in is the (possibly revised) intended viewing order.

we need Joss to speak out, and it is basically 99% likely that FOX is to blame for this, just someone with connections encouage Jossy to speak out.

If you know anyone that can help my screenwriting career, please help! And yes, I am self-advertising here. Hehehe, me such a little devil.

You can tell the order is messed up just by looking at the relationship between Simon and Kaylee in jaynestown and safe. It is obvious to me that Jaynestown happens after safe.

Although I thought that at first, it really isn't necessarily true. If you mentally juxtapose the scenes, you could see that they could really happen in any order, though the original production order is a little bit more logical.

Another example of production order versus broadcast order is Babylon 5. In that case (especially for the first few episodes of the first season) several later episodes were shot first simply to allow for more post-production time. (CGI mostly)

And although relationships may indicate what the originally intended broadcast order was, don't forget that Joss hasn't written every episode. So each writer (even if there is a bible) may emphasize character traits differently.

So far, I haven't seen any continuity errors (other than general relationship issues), which have occasionally popped up on other series which got reordered at the request of the network (like B5:Crusade).

I find it most likely that joss and the crew are the ones that changed the order to deal with fox not showing the pilot. The voice overs were prob added after as well. I am sure they showed them in this order to try to get us into the universive sans the pilot. Also it seems to me that shindig/safe will lead into ariel much better then jaynestown would have. but again /shrug - i'm just lovin the ride.

hoping for a da bien hua with the ratings
