So I'm watching The Message last night and I get to thinking. Kaylee is the person we least expect to have some secret hidden past. She's just so sweet and open about everything.

Seems like just the kind of thing Joss would blindside us with. Not that I really have any theories. Kaylee is just inspires too much trust. I can't help but believe everything she's saying is true.

Anybody think Kaylee does have some secrets to her? If so, what?

I always thought it was significant that in "Objects in Space" Kaylee was the only one from whom River heard no 'interior speech'. I took it to mean that Kaylee was an open book who hid nothing. Or maybe she's so good at hiding that even River can't read her? That seems a bit of a stretch.

No.

I honestly don't see Kaylee (or Wash, for that matter) having a secret. There just isn't a need. Not everyone has to have a secret. In fact, I think that it's refreshing that they don't.

Xander's a great example from Joss's previous works. There's no secrets there; Xander's pretty much what you see, and he didn't need to be anything more. It just isn't necessary, ya know?

But that's just me...

I do think that it would seem forced for Kaylee to have a secret. Though I'm sure the writers could find a way to give her one.

It doesn't have to be something big and crazy. Something subtle could work too.

At worst, it was prolly something that she told Bester in order to have her way w/ him.....err... or his engine.

Ummm... yes, she must have said something very deep and profound to get Bester to reluctantly agree to have sex with her. I know it would take a lot for her to win me over. Yep.

I mock you with my monkey pants

....Nah. Not Kaylee. There's no secret there. What you see is what you get. That's why that character works so well. Like, as was stated previously; Xander.

On a Buffy note:

I always saw Xander as having one big secret: The way he felt about being The Zeppo. He never spoke to anyone about it, except Dawn coz she was kind of a Zeppo too. He kept it hidden from the characters if not from the audience.

I saw the moment in Out of Gas when she was shagging that mechanic bloke as being the revelation of her secret. We'd all thought she was this sweet littel girly girl when really she's all dirtied up with engine oil.

I thought of one that would work. She could have a secret that is something she doesn't consider to be a secret. She seemed perfectly fine with her eploits with Bester. Maybe a little embarrassed when Mal walked in on them. So, maybe it will come out later that her and Jayne have a similar relationship. Not that they have any romantic feelings for each other. Just that they have a little fun now and then. Seems to fit the way the verse works pretty well. Besides this would add a nice stumbling block to her and Simon. You know that's going to be drawn out as long as possible anyway.

Man I always loved this episode. Very funny. For me in the later seasons Buffy never quite achieved this level of humour again...

Certainly not many later episodes were consistently funny, but there were some great moments that, when considered together, kept it a funny show.

Tabula Rasa will always remain a favourite of mine.

Tabula Rasa is funny :) I'm sure there were others. Superstar that was fun.
