I was watching Justice League Unlimited today, that I had taped on December 18. When I got to the end credits, I found out that one of the main voices in the episode, that of the character Vixen, was played by our beloved Gina Torres! The episode was called "Wake the Dead", whose storyline involved battling Solomon Grundy back into the grave he came from.

Thought you might like to know! Here are a couple screenshots, showing her character and the end credits.

Yep, it's kinda cool. Other Firefly alum are due to voice other characters in the show in upcoming episodes (although I think not until the next season)... Nathan Fillion will be playing Vigilante, Morena Baccarin will be playing either Huntress or Black Canary, can never remember which (Amy Acker of Angel will be playing the other).

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised when the episode aired a while back in Canada. I wasn't expecting any of the Firefly actors' animated characters to show up until season four. I say Gina did a good job, but I don't know much about voice acting.

Yeah, Nathan, Morena, and Adam are going to be providing voices on JLU. It looks like Morena might get to do more than one episode. Black Canary is definitely going to be in an ep called Double Date but words been circulating that she's also in an ep called The Cat and The Canary. Nathan's Vigilante, as mentioned already, and supposedly Adam's going to play a villian. Amy Acker's set to voice Huntress and she's also going to be in Double Date.

I'm dying to hear everyone else. Adam's done voice work before so I'm curious as to how Nathan and Morena will sound.

I'm especially looking forward to 'Double Date', as not only are some of the voices Whedonverse alums, but also the episode is supposed to be written by Gail Simone, who currently writes the excellent Birds of Prey comic book (which features Black Canary and Huntress, who are both in the episode, along with Oracle, the former-Batgirl-turned-computer-whiz Barbara Gordon)

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I enjoyed the episode. Gina did a great job, and it was shiny hearing her voice and having my wife walk into the room and say "Isn't that Gina's voice?"

I love my wife! :biggrin

I am looking forward to hearing the voices of the rest of our BDHs.

Actually, Black Canary's appeared repeatedly, she just hasn't said anything. She's mostly been there for Ollie (Green Arrow) to leer at.

Hey, can someone from this thread post a link where all this information was found? Is there a list of JLU upcoming episodes? The Cartoon Network site is poor at best, and I don't want to miss any of the other BDHs (since I already missed Gina).

It looks like a couple more Mutant Enemy actor alumns are heading to JLU: Juliet Landau and Armin Shimerman

Must suck to be pure voice-over actor these days... having to compete with all that star power.

Thanks, RexRaygun. I'm pleasantly surprised at how in-depth the TV Tome coverage is for JLU. TV Tome has a tendency to be ripe with errors and misspellings, but the JLU editor is doing a great job. Thanks for the tip.

Not so much; most of the star power is there as a one-note act. They're intended to be recognizable. Most professional VAs have multiple voices to fall back on (Scott MacNeill in particular could probably handle a ten-person cast all by himself [and one of them would sound like Duo/Koga/Jetfire/Rattrap ]).

It's not unlike the seiyuu (celebrity voice-actors) in Japan. It's less about the character than about the seiyuu, which is why I'm personally not all that fanatic about the sub/dub issue; many Japanese voices don't really suit the characters (IMHO, of course), they're just there for star power. Kinda the voice-acting equivalent of much Hollywood "talent," actually (which of course means that there are some truly talented individuals, but the talent itself isn't a prerequisite).

Celebrities are fine for guest spots or to drum up sweeps-week ratings, but the multi-voiced actors still get more work.
