DAKION

I'd like to celebrate Firefly by dressing as Cpt. Tightpants for a big shindig on the 30th... anyone sucessfully recreate mal's look in a way that can be done in 10 days with a budget around $60???

Please post your suggestions here!

PS- TIA and You guys Rock!... I swear anyone who asks who I'm supposed to be will get an earful of Firefly praises!

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Ouch? $60 bucks? Be pretty hard to do that unless you go without the brown trench coat (assuming that you do not already have something that will work as a brown coat).

What I did was hit the local retail chains clearance racks for the long sleeve button down shirt & khaki pants. These cost me about $20.00. I got a pair of western style suspenders for $13.00 off of Ebay. You might be able to find something in the way of suspenders at a local western shop or men's clothing store. My leather holster was $10 on Ebay. You might be able to pick a passable childrens toy holster at a toy store for a couple of bucks. The gun I had was a wooden prop made by a friend as a gift. Boots I already owned. I bought a brown duster, but it ran me $150.00. I purchased brown bias tape for the stripes on the pants for $2.

I would suggest hitting stores like Goodwill or a local reconsignment shop. You can normally get great deals there on older clothing of the sort that will be close to Mal's. You should be able to get the pants & shirt at these locations. Perhaps you might find boots and a coat as well, but not very likely.

You could always go without the coat, which would eliminate the most costly part of the costume.
