The new issue of TV Guide has the '25 Sci-fi legends'. #18 is Captain Malcom "Mal" Reynolds.

---
A bona fide space cowboy, Firefly's Mal Reynolds was a 25th century renegade who, after fighting on the losing side of a galactic war, made a living as captain of a small space freighter. So what if the Joss Whedon series was canceled after 10 episodes? Played by the strapping Nathon Fillion, Mal made a lasting impression, with fans calling themselves Fillionaires and all but demanding next sproing's big-screen spin-off, "Serenity"

Fillionaires...?

I'll call myself a Browncoat online, and wear my Blue Sun T-shirt in public... but I don't think I'd make it very far from my porch in the real world, calling myself a "Fillionaire"...! LOL!

Interesting that TV Guide has been covering sci-fi very extensively lately...just a couple of weeks ago we had the Top Cult TV Shows. That's a breath of fresh air from the usual reality-TV coverage.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering where they came up with this phrase. I'd never heard anyone describe themselves as Fillionaires. Browncoats, most definitely. FFF's, totally. Fillionaires, not so much.

So any Fillionaires out there to correct me?

editted to add: Hell, I'd go with BDF's except there could be multiple interpretations of that acronym. I wouldn't mind being called a Hakenite either (except I think those were wiped out in the book of First Kings).

I bet that they see Browncoats as politicaly incorrect. To the uninformed it brings to mind Brownshirts of WW2 fame.

Any bona-fide Fillionaires are welcome to defend the name. I can't, I'm a Browncoat.

They probably did what I just did, 30 seconds of research on Nathan Fillion using Google comes up with a first listing of: www.nathan-fillion.de
And on that page if you skim the large print, there is a subsection with that cute name in it. Then they write a line about him, and onwards with writing about other things they don't know about.

"fillionaires" is a term used at the original Fox board, aka the OB.

The Fillionaires are alive and well over there! Just check out the "Nathan is a Hottie" thread... over 12,000 posts!

There was a post about what fans of certain cast members call/should call themselves:
http://forums.prospero.com/foxfirefly/messages?msg=16899.42

Nathan = Fillionaires
Adam = Bunkmates (I LOVE THAT...)
Sean = Traditionalists
Alan = Valkyries

None for the women...

By the way, Mal was #18, not #20.

Yea... noticed that. Have NO idea why I saw the number as 20, either. Corrected original post.
