There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'd watch.

Nope. Ditch the real firefly as mascot, and do it in the style of DC's Batman shows. Firefly needs to be gritty, not cutesy.

The Scooby-Doo version made me think how much racist was the old cartoons, and maybe the current too (btw, I still loving scooby-doo).

And one day I will understand the hype about that ponies...maybe!

Wait, what ?

" Racist " ??

How..where..huh ??

Not seeing the connection. Are you maybe speaking of cartoons of that era ? And not Scooby-Doo specifically?

Even so, I'm still struggling to understand.

I mean, who doesn’t want to see a version of Firefly with a tiny and deadly River Tam?

Because she's a 17 year old GIRL! That's why !

Quote:

And if that wasn’t enough, Byrne’s also imagined what it would look like if Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer was animated by Disney, and the results are equally as awesome.

Equally as something, but "awesome " isn't the word I'd have used.

In the Disney version would Inara still be a space hooker? And what's with Book? Is he a hobbit or something? I'm all for an animated reboot, but that looks silly. I hate to say it, but Joss may want to work with FOX on this or maybe Dark Horse Comics and keep Disney away from this. Disney is good at "cute", Firefly isn't cute.

And River as a little girl? Spare me.

What could be more Disney than River and Inara as mice or Book as a rat? I bet Nathan Fillion would sign onto the project just so he could say, “I loved Disney cartoons when I was a kid. And they let me play a chipmunk spaceship captain. I love that even more!”

Is more about the ausence of black carachters in that era, is allways animals and white people. Ok, reflects another world, another time. But is good to see how the tings are changing(and is one fof the reasons I love firefly, break with all the stereotypes(strong women, or a proposital male sex-symbol, for example).

So, not so much 'racist' as it is excluding and aimed at a specific target audience ?

I guess. But that isn't so much racism.

Guess you're less a fan of Disney's Song of the South, huh?

Meh, Firefly can be considered racist as well.
In a 'Verse that has a major Chinese population, how many Asian characters were there?

As far as the Disney style goes, I don't like it.
As said before, Firefly ain't cute.
And that pic is definitely cute.

Well, I didn't know that film. The wikipedia says the film was lauched directly in VHS here in Brazil, small distribution.

Auraptor, about the Chinese question, I think Joss could "redeem" himself a little bit with Better Days...

Put River in a spacesuit for the cartoon. That makes her recognizable. She wears it all the time, even to bed, because there's a vacuum outside. What do you expect from a crazy in a 'toon?

I wasn't the one who brought up the 'Chinese question', but it remains the ever present elephant in the room. So strongly is the culture of the future 'verse influenced that everyone speaks and writes at least some form of Chinese, but not one major or minor Chinese character appears anywhere in the t.v. series or the BDM.

Now, we all know Joss well enough that , given time, he'd have introduced more than a token Chinese cast member. But it just comes off as looking strange to see such a glaring absence of 'diversity'.
