I've been getting callz from a boiler room phishing operation for at least 5 yirz.

They promise to lower the rates you pay on all your credit cardz.

It starts with a recording from 'Card Services' and asks you to press 1 to talk to an agent. I gess the generic but official sounding name foolz people into thinking the call iz from one of their credit card companyz.

The agent will say he needz to qualify you by verifying that you have an account in good standing and it has to be the wun with the most credit available.

Anybody who gets to this point and haznt yet figured out that its a scam iz an idiot.

Apparently there are alot uv idiots out there jujing by the sound uv many ajents in the background and the amount uv time this place haz been running.

Back wen this started, I tried to find where they are, filed complaints with the credit card and fone companyz, filed reports with the police and FBI. No luck.

For the last yir or so, Iv tried wasting their time. I play dum, usually with a hik dialect or forin accent and say 'hold on a minit, I gotta go get my card.' and then just let the fone sit. That got them angry a few timez and stopped the callz for a wile. I strung wun woman along for 15 minits once wen I wuz at Walmart and then hung up. she called back full uv piss & vinager "LISSIN, ASSHOLE! I GOT..." I hung up wile laffing at her.

The last thing I tried wuz to say 'hold on wile i get my card' and then pretended to be talking on another fone to the FBI to start a trace, 'accidently' letting them overhear. hehehehe

That got them mad enuf that wun uv the higher ups in the organization got on the line to scoff at me. Sed "We bin doin this for 10 yirz, you stupid MF! Trace gunnu bounce you all over the world!" He promised to call back every 5 minits, but gave up after 3 callz.

They didnt call for a few dayz, but now seem to hav figured out the connection between the home & cell numbrz. They probably got my address also, so I'm wondering if they will show up soon.

Since the card & fone companyz dont care that their infrastructure iz being used to rip off their customerz, and the gummit iz useless az usual, I think the only way us powerless sheep can do anything about theze crooks iz to waste their time.

So, if you ever get a call frum Card Services, do your best to string them along. Sound like a chump. Give them bogus card numbers.

Haha!

I don't answer any phone calls on my cell from area codes I'm not familiar with. If it's really meant for me and it's important, they'll leave a message.

Sometimes these companies leave a message, and I just block their number from ever calling again on my phone. When they don't, I google the number and most of the time one of the "who's calling me" sites say it's an ad or a scam and I block them.

Good for you for taking that a step further.

The only time I ever remember scamming somebody back was on my parents home phone when I still lived with them. Somebody from the Sun or Trib called about a subscription to their paper and I just said as if I was on the verge of crying that I couldn't read. He then asked if my parents were home and I started fake crying and said my parents were dead and he apologized and hung up.

So, Roy and Rachel are back at it again, are they ?
http://ftc.gov/opa/2011/12/roycox.shtm
http://ftc.gov/os/caselist/0923193/index.shtm

Basically this dickhead sets up a bunch of offshore punks with an auto-dialer rigged to a system that spoofs the call information, and then the goons he hires try to get folks financial info - at which point they get hit with a bill from $800 to $1500 for various bullshit services.

His name is Roy M Cox, Jr and he lives in Santa Ana, California.

I'm sure you can figure out what to do from there.

Thats pretty funny. Put a little drama in the guyz day.

about 10 yirz ago I got an 88 Infinity or Lexus frum a frend for free. (coudnt pass the smog test) Put an add out for it and got an email frum scammerz.

I played them for 2 months. They sent a check for 4000$ via FedEx! Talked to them on the fone a dozen timez! Must hav cost them 100$ all together.

Rapt it up with a dramatic story uv the car being stolen and used in a bank job, ending up crashing into a house & burning it down. They were calling & emailing every day 'We did not pick up the car!' 'It was not our representative!' 'How can your compound be entered without your permission?'
'The police must be assured of our not being involved!'

I suppoze perceptionz must be very different in Nigeria, but even tho I did it myself, I find it hard to believe I wuz able to get them to such a state uv panik.

Well that's the thing, the guy owns a whole bloody fistfull of on-paper companies registered in various states and foreign countries, so whenever one is shut down they just sleaze under another mask, got the FFC and suchlike playing whack-a-mole, essentially.

Me now, I don't play by other peoples friggin RULES - especially not when the game itself is rigged.
I tend to make the consequences of crossing irons with me a little more personal, as the paper shield which deflects legal/official responsibility means nothing to me, and when I come down on someone I do so all at once, from multiple directions, after which I back off and see if they learned their lesson, and if not, well...
Bad things man, BAD things... just ask McDade about that one.

Usually they get the idea that leaving well the hell enough ALONE is a really, really smart idea.

Thats the way to handle crooks.

It usually kumz down to how much iz it worth. Too many dishonest repairmen, car dealerz, shopkeeperz out there to make everything a personal vendetta.

Usually, I will just hassle people in person or on the fone till they pay. If they don't, I just keep bugging them till they start crying to the cops. Occasionally a little vandalizm if the opportunity arrizez.

But a guy like this needs to be put out uv bizness, since it's obviously hiz career. Its not like hez about to enroll at DeVry and bekum an electronics teknician!

Whoz McDade?

Speaking of dishonest car repairmen, steer clear of Midas.

About 12-13 years ago or so I was there to get my front brake pads done for their $49.99 free brake pads for life (only pay labor next time) deal.

The guy came out at some point and told me that my rotors were bad and needed replacing, and he also told me that my drum calipers in the back were leaking oil, and even brought me back to show me what he was talking about. First off, I knew enough about rotors from actually ruining a pair before that there was nothing wrong with mine. It's normal for them to show some wear. It wasn't even bad enough that it would be worth grinding them down, let alone replacing them.

I took a look at the calipers, but I didn't know what the hell I was looking at. There WAS oil coming from whatever he was pointing at, but for all i knew he had just put it on there before showing it to me. When I asked him what his suggested fixes were going to cost, he quoted around 500 bucks!!!!

When he gave me an attitude, which I threw right back at him when I said to just replace the brake pads, I figured he was full of crap all around. And I damned sure inspected the job before he put my tires back on, which he didn't like even more.

About 3 years later I had to get a blown tire replaced at Good Year. I asked them if they would check the drums for me while they replaced the tire and they said nothing was wrong with them!

My advice, for all things car related, is to ask around your neighborhood for a ma and pa shop that relies on word of mouth reviews about their honesty and affordability, rather than trying your luck at some mega-chain place that likely pays their workers bonuses for drumming up unnecessary costs.

Don't just go to one of those shops though, as I've been burned in the past at the small shops too.

I avoid car repair shops az much az I can. Big or small, new or old, they are, more likely than not, crooked andor incompetent. Kill em all. Let God sort em out.

Got 2 callz frum Card Servicez this afternoon. Recorded both uv them.

Talked with the fone chump for a wile about the scam. He sed there are 50 to 80 people on the fonez there & he'z getting 12 bucks an hour. Coud it be that he really duznt know its a skam?

Nah... not all of them. I've been VERY lucky with 2 over the years.

If I didn't have to drive 2 hours away to go to the place I used in Wisconsin I'd still be going there.

Sure, the more you can do for yourself, the better, but if you really need car repairs done, it's really in your best interest to develop a good relationship with a local guy rather than a Wal-Mart chain.
