Before I completely geek out, I have to share hot off the presses that Christopher Nolan is ready to launch into the Dark Knight Rises or Batman 3 - But no Riddler.

He has stated that most definitely there will be no Riddler. What villian could he possibly be thinking of?

Could it be the Mad Hatter? Can't be Catwoman because he's chosen Tom Hardy to star as the next villian. This is gonna be interesting.

Set your calendars fellow Browncoats, this is gonna be good.

I wouldn't rule out Catwoman entirely. He hasn't said who Hardy would play, and there have been multiple villains in the prior two films. They havn't even said for sure that Hardy will be a villain. He could just as well be the new DA.

And they are currently casting a large female role. Could be Catwoman, could be someone else entirely (I think Talia Al Ghul is a likely candidate). The Batman-On-Film site, which has gotten most of the early casting scoops since Begins was in pre-production, says that Catwoman is likely, but not locked. We shall see.
As to other villains (as I doubt Catwoman would be the only one even if she does appear), I would expect someone like Black Mask, Bane or Hush - all guys that have a symbolic parallel with Bruce/Batman, and can be easily tied to the mob, which I expect to co0ntinue to be a heavy influence.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

Why does catwoman need to be female? Maybe batman will come out of the...cave in the next movie. Now that would get some press.

Names ("Catman") - and costumes, really - would be too similar. Generally you avoid confusing the audience about two major characters.

That's pretty much a given since she was "blowed up real good" in TDK.

I'm with you Bytemite, "Catman" just sounds wrong.

Just no 'sister' or 'not really dead' stuff.
Really.
I won't even look at it if she's in it.
I'd own TDK, except, well, SHE'S in it!!!

Did I mention I can't stand her?

Yeah, can't rule anything out with Nolan at the helm.

What's so wrong with her? Other than her face looking like she was repeatedly dropped as a child? The rest of her is decent at least. Still no Katie Holmes but what can ya do? She kinda married a psychotic who wouldn't let her work on good movies anymore.

I prefer the term 'eccentric.'
Or 'nut.'

I feel like 'psychotic' is a clinical observation none of us here is trained to make.

Except for Robin.

Personally, I think that's a good thing, though I suspect people will roast me for that.

Well, for one, back when she was in the Spiderman movies she said that Spiderman ought to be killed off in Spiderman 3. She pissed off a lot of fans that time, and it's a bad idea anyway. The impression is either she's a little bit y'know for even suggesting that, or she doesn't really like all of these superhero movies and the geek culture around them despite how well it's paid off for her and is just going through the motions.

Wait I thought we were talking about the actress who played Rachel in Dark Knight. It sounds like you're talking about Kirsten Dunst. Who are we talking about?

If it were a bikini carwash movie, I'd certainly take Holmes. But in a serious drama, I prefer acting ability to looks myself. And I don't think Gyllenhaal is THAT bad looking anyway.

Uh.... wtf are you talking about? Neither woman was in any Spidey movie.

Oh, nevermind, someone else got to it.

Yeah, I saw redhead in The Dark Knight and assumed Dunst, then forgot her name.

Agreed. But I think that Nolan is one of those rare producer/director types that has creative control of his movies; and I can pretty safely say that he doesn't go that route (sister, not really dead). There doesn't seem to be a great demand for her presence in the Batman series overall.

Yeah, Tom doesn't like to be overshadowed. Katie, despite what people might think is a decent enough actress (I love Pieces of April, great ensemble cast) and she deserves better.

Raise your hand if you think the whirlwind romance and marriage was scripted, staged and executed with puppetmaster TC at the helm.

Real Batfans know that the Dark Knight started out solo. Robin was introduced a year later.
