Remember that opening by Chevy Chase at the Oscars? I always think of that line, every time I see an interview with some Hollywood phony talking about their experiences on the set of a movie... “Oh I loooved the director!”, “I learned so much from my co-actors.”, “It was the best job I ever had.”, “We were like family.”, blar blar blar.

I remember watching the extras in the Firefly DVD set and hearing all these clichés and more. An odd thing happened. I actually found myself believing them.

One of the things that make me love Firefly so much is the warm atmosphere of the show. After I’d watched all episodes I found out that the work environment on this production had been very different from Buffy & Angel.

In an interview with James Marsters where he was asked if they goofed around a lot on the set -his reply was: [almost shocked, completely void of irony] “Noooo!”… all the equipment cost so much and everyone was aware of the tight budget, so everyone was very serious while filming.

It goes to show you that in an environment where no expense is spared to make amazing sets and give actors their time… magic happens! I just hope that this atmosphere can be recreated for the movie.
