Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I posted a while ago about introducing my husband Jim to Firefly. Wasn't sure he'd like it. He fell in love. Now he won't watch more than one epi a week, then rewatches it and has full intention of rewatching all of them yet AGAIN once he's done all and the movie.

This is a 71-year-old, pretty grumpy man who has relatively narrow taste and has walked out of MANY movies and dismissed many series (in fact most of them) AND who never sees things twice without a lot of time in between--and doesn't see that many things twice.

We've talked in depth about Firefly and Joss, and on his own he started watching Buffy--which I was POSITIVE he'd hate. He's hooked, and already into season three. He says it keeps him from going through Firefly too fast.

Some weekends he won't even WATCH a Firefly epi, saying he's been too busy all weekend and doesn't want to squeeze Firefly in, wants to savor it.

As I've posted before, this totally blows my mind. I mean I know about the
"Firefly Effect", but figured it was probably me and other sci fi folk who were most strongly affected.

The reason I'm posting this is that, at the end of every epi, he sits there and swears at Fox for a while (you'd think he didn't even enjoy the epi!). We just watched Ariel, and as the screen went blank:

"Chop your goddamned balls off."

"Stupid, ignorant, mutherf***ing a**holes!"

"Boggles the mind. Absolutely boggles the mind."

"Hey, give me more "Bones", yes indeedy, give us more of that and reality shows and soap operas and other crap; gawd forbid we should have any QUALITY, you..." (I won't go on from there, imagine about thirty seconds of nonstop cussing).

Makes me and I thought you guys might get a kick out of it.

Howdy Niki2

Great to hear that your (71 years young) spouse has really gotten into a tv series that I enjoy as much as well. Sounds as if we both have equal feelings about the network that will remain nameless….lol

Oh well, at least we can enjoy what we have. My brother was in town this weekend visiting from Dallas (Tx). He asked me again when they were going to make more Firefly, or when a new movie was coming? I told him “ Sometime in the future.”

Still holdin, Z

Hang in there kiddo, as long as we keep hope alive, anything's possible, eh?

Hello Niki2:

We did some surveys on this forum and found people of every age, every ethnic, and every religious background, a few I never heard of, and there seems no niche you could put us into except our love for science fiction and, of course, great programing.

It is nice to hear that someone else has found Firefly. Good job.

Ariel is one of my favorite episodes, and I think it can leave a strong impression on viewers the first time through the series. Had you caught on that it occurs around Christmas time?

AERIN

I love to hear about first timers! I'm sure you've heard this before, but it's that vicarious thrill. I wish I had taken them a bit slower, rather than jamming the first 2 discs in over about 2 days as I was staying at a friend's house out of state. I wanted to watch them all before I had to drive home empty handed (she couldn't loan the DVDs to me because she was borrowing them from someone else).

Luckily it's all sorted out now because everyone has their own official copy.

Thanks for posting this!
