Hey guys,

Another possible newbie question.

I just watched "Serenity" again (and this time got to watch it a little more closely). When the crew contacts Mr. Universe to let them know their on their way with the video for him to broadcast, he turns to the Operative and asks for his 30 coin. My question is was this his actual payment and thus an allegorical Judas-like betrayal of Jesus (Judas was paid 30 pieces of silver for turning Jesus in)? Or was Mr. Universe consciously making the reference knowing he just betrayed his friends?

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

IMO, it was a conscious reference

Yup, it's allegorical - he knows he's just betrayed his friends to keep himself alive, and probably knows he's failed in even doing that.

I bet Mr. Universe felt no remorse for selling his friends out because the signal cannot be stopped even for friends and he probably suspected they already knew what they were getting themselves into.
