so i was in my local blockbuster looking for something to rent, and as i was browsing the tv section of the new release wall, i was pleasantly surprised to see all the firefly discs front and center (well, as center as "f" can be in the alphabet). very cool that they weren't just buried away with the old releases. the browncoat in me got to wondering if universal or fox might be pushing bbuster to feature them prominently as a way of continuing to test for future market interest (bdm sequel please!) or as a way to stir up interest in the upcoming firefly bluray release.

of course maybe the manager at my local blockbuster just happens to be a browncoat. does seem weird that a corporate entity like blockbuster would put a 6 year old show up front with new releases. shiny!

I'm thinking it's the manager. But then the stores likely have to follow a marketing plan of some sort.

I always do a little bit of "browncoat duty" at my nearest Target.

This Browncoat sneaks into Barnes and Nobel and positions "Firefly" and "Serenity" in front of the rest of the dross then walks away trying to look innocent. **whistling tunelessly as she strolls down the aisle**

Imagine my surprise when I saw the same thing at my local Blockbuster (Md 21117). What really made me laugh was that it was a two day rental as if it was a new release! Could have sworn the show was six years old! Well, I guess it's true; "Can't stop the signal"!!!

I'm going to run a check of the BB in my area in New York to see if this is a concerted effort on their part to promote FF.

My offhand guess is because of the upcoming Blu-ray release. But as I think of it, I get the feeling that notice has been taken of our growing numbers - you know we have grown mighty in the last 6 years.

I will report back my findings in a day or two.

Doing the impossible makes us mighty!

Firefly is not a new release, but maybe it is new to Blockbuster stores? If it's happened in two Blockbusters, they might be getting it as in-store stock for every store--which would make it a new release, for them.

Yes,I noticed it in the new TV series at my local Blockbuster as well. Right there with Bones, Dresden Files, and the other popular TV shows. I was pleasantly surpised as I always look for it and don't recall seeing it before.
