I remembered reading an article in Wired about a Hollywood insider message board called www.filmtracker.com

In an effort to help build buzz from INSIDE the industry, I'm going to buy a month's membership and see what what I can do. Maybe we can start building buzz so FF can gain some "traction". We can talk about all of the strong fan base, and the exponential increase in fans due to the DVDs. But let's keep it subtle. The last thing we want to do is come across like a bunch of crazed fans who are bummed out because their low rated show was canceled.

How exciting! sounds like a great idea!
I clicked on your link and I notice you have to register - is it something anyone can register for..or do you have to be an industry insider??

I love the idea..if you buy a membership, can others come in and discuss the movie?

You can register for free, but from what I can tell you only get access to the "my groups" section, which all seem to be pretty dead as far as conversations go.

I think all of the real discussion goes on in the "tracking" section, but this is only available if you pay. (And even then, according to the Wired article, you have to have good connections to get into any really interesting areas.)

I'll be paying for the $15/month membership tonight, then I'll let everybody know what's possible after that.

Super!
If it turns out others can join you in your discussion area, I'll be glad to kick in some $$ to help out. Sounds like this may be a place where you could get some good info, as things happen.

let me know and THANKS!

I'm not sure if this is the way to go or if it's worth spending money to accomplish. FilmTracker may or may not be where those with influence still wheel and deal. After that article came forward, it shed light where many preferred it did not. So the ones with real power and influence have most probably moved on to darker pastures, where they can continue their clandestine behavior without the intrusion of HUTzeduPEEgoo riffraff.

And even if they are still there, someone entering their field of battle for the implicit purpose of talking up one movie, but having nothing really substantial to offer the power brokers in that forum in return? Your efforts will fall on deaf ears.

I'm not sure that fans like us would be allowed to make a difference on this filmtracker board. From the content of the article, the REAL tracker boards are very exclusive such that even professionals in the industry have a hard time getting in. I don't think fans or wannabes would have access to THOSE boards (wherever they are), even if they pay $15 a month.

But definitely an interesting article. Thanks.

How about a direct-to-DVD business proposal.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Though it sounds like a good idea, how much real influence would posting on that site really have on getting Firefly on the big screen?

There does not appear to be much traffic on the free board, and I can not see the paid board.

Anyone here signed up yet?
