Just curious if I'm the only one... my set plays fine up until "Objects in Space" on disc 4... at approximately 33:00, the playback freezes and becomes a very unrighteous pain in the arse to get by. This glitch lasts about a minute or so, then everything returns to normal. This does more or less the same thing on two totally different DVD systems...

Anyone else have playback problems?

There were several complaints of DVD skipping on the Official Board. Most people had problems in different spots although many noted that disk 4 had the most problems. I haven't made it through all of my DVDs, yet, but I did have a very annoying skip during the "Missing Scenes" feature in the "Objects in Space" scene (disk 4). It makes me wonder what kind of backwoods factory FOX used to burn these DVDs.

Try this, put in a copy of Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (The single DVD, not the extended), and try to play it through the council and Bilbo/Frodo scenes.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but there's a method to my madness.

It has to do with how the DVD is formatted and where the "tracks" meet, in laymans terms.

One of the hardest track-changes on a DVD for an old player to deal with is that one on LoTR, so if it jams right there, likely the problem is your player rather than the DVD itself.

Figured that might be useful to know.

No problems with LotR (any edition). My main DVD player is less than a year old (a nice progressive scan Panasonic model) and the other (in the bedroom) is a 4 year old RCA model that occasionally crashes (you heard me...) but never skips.

This problem not only freezes the playback, but also results in a lot of MPEG artifacting (blocks appear, carried from one frame to the next)... the same sort of error that appears in a corrupted computer video file... My biggest complaint at this point is that the damn store where I bought it is now sold out and I'll have to wait (possibly) weeks to get another copy...

Hi,

I am also having a similar problem, but on Heart of Gold on the 4th disc.

It will not play on my DVD player, or on my iMac.
But it will play on my new iBook.
Very strange.

All of the other episodes play fine for me, it is just that one.

My plan was to purchase another Box set (keep the sales up) and see how that one plays.
Try to exchange the broken one if i can.

Firefly is meant to be seen on a big screen, not a 12" iBook :)
