I am watching Reign of Fire on TBS. They also had Jurassic Park III and Van Helsing. When do you guys think they will start showing Serenity?

And just think when they do and non-browncoats start watching it?? can you imagine the recruits we will get?? man all those people who havent heard of or seen our crew? They will get hooked?

That is of course if Univeral/Joss allows it?

I got a question for yall, Why wont Universal/Joss let writers make Serenity novels? I mean look at Star Wars, the whole wall at the book store is covered with them? Lucas tells the writers, " You cant have this?" or "I want this chracter to do this?" the rest is filler I am sure? So why wont Joss do the same thing? I am sure that would help the bank and maybe get a new series or movie?

ok, Joss is a little more careful with his verse, but just a few non-canon novels cant hurt?

thanks

I don't know if there's an outright ban on Serenity / Firefly novels. I just don't think many of them have been written, aside from fully approved Joss & Co. canon ones.

I think the guy who wrote the Serenity novelisation posts here. Maybe he can enlighten us?

Speaking as someone with almost no fiction writing experience, and only a little non-fiction stuff published, I think writing a Firefly novel would be great fun. And I know bunches of Buffy novels that were totally non-canon, but still fun to read. The 'Lost Slayer' series and 'The Wisdom of War' spring to mind.

IIRC, the rights were sold such that it would be airing on HBO, Sci-Fi, and USA. I can't remember for sure, but I don't remember TBS being on the list. Not that that's a never, just a not right away. But the idea of new eyes falling in love with the 'verse is always exciting.

On novels, I believe Pocket Books (or something similar) was licensed for three novels, and authors (including our own KRAD) submitted their proposals. But this all happened before Serenity's release in anticipation of a trilogy of films and lucrative franchise. Since the trilogy thing didn't happen, and the future is unclear, Joss has sat on the novels - he's not done telling the story he wants to tell. And, as he commented on in a recent fanboy radio interview, he wants to tell those stories with the actors in some capacity. It is the same reason the upcoming comic series is only going to be a three issue run.

i am talking expanded universe type stuff? ya know, joss can keep "his" stories and just let the other writers stay in the lines so to speak, get the word out through novel sales and such?

i think it can do nothing but help the verse.

Check the inside last page of the Serenity Visual Companion where there is an ad for the Serenity novel. Part of the verbiage in the ad mentions upcoming Serenity novels.
