Well, we know they celebrate Christmas...

Mal: "Is it Christmas? What happened about me?"

==============================================
Mal: You are very much lacking in imagination.
Zoe: I imagine that's so, sir.

As far as holidays go, the only one we seen for sure is "Unification Day". And it seems that Mal likes to celebrate said day by punching loud, rude Alliance Lovin' jerks with a big ol' closed fist. Zoe likes smackin' 'em with the butt of her shotgun. Jayne hits various guys with a chair.

We have seen a birthday party, Simon's, which closely resembled a present day celebration.

Halloween would be an interesting event. Wonder if some folks like dressing up as a Reaver? eeeeeewwwwww

Christmas might look different than now. Seeing as how Western and Eastern cultures have been blended, Christmas could also reflect that mix. Could be very interesting.

I can see Chinese New Year still being a big celebration, and with the mix of Eastern/Western religion we saw in a few eps, I can also see Christmas traditions blended with Dong zhi (which falls on the winter solstice on the lunar calendar, near by Christmas).

A lot of the seasonal elements I assume would be lost, since each world spinning probably has its own calendar/seasons that don't always jibe with all the other colonies. For example, Christmas might fall in the middle of summer on one continant of Persephone, or spring in Capital City on Osiris, etc.

But then, a number of the Christian holidays were placed by the Church on old pagan dates which corresponded to high holidays placed on mid-points between the solstices and equinoxes (for example, Christmas was placed on/close to solstice/midwinter fairly late in the game. I think the 4th or 5th century. And All Souls/All Saint's was an attempt in the 8th century to co-opt the New Year's festivities in most parts of Western Europe with Celtic roots who celebrated the end of the year and venerated their dead on Oct. 31, with New Years being November 1.) which of course have no meaning on other worlds.

We've seen that the Julian calendar is still being used (Inara makes a "date" for October 24th on Beaumonde in "Our Mrs. Reynolds"), but the holidays like Easter (spring) and Christmas (winter) would probably have all their seasonal aspects changed or stripped by now...

Some people ate with chopsticks in FF, not everyone, but some, take a look at the Pilot. Mal ate his tomato with chopsticks.

Simon ate with chopsticks in "Ariel", and Mal eats with chopsticks as well a lot of the time. And there are musical and clothing influences all over the place--and the one funeral we saw was a mix of Christian and Shinto and Buddist I think. So I just assumed that mix would be present in the rest of religious and secular holidays as well.
