Over on SyFy Portal ( http://www.syfyportal.com/news.php?id=3031) they're saying
Quote:

Stephen Hawking, the genius scientist living with Lou Gehrig's Disease, thinks humans will eventually colonize space, but that future will look more like TV series "Firefly" and its movie spin-off, "Serenity," than the grand vision of Star Trek, according to the iTWire website.

Now anyone reading that might think Hawking actually said something like "our future will be more like Firefly than Star Trek". Actually it's not quite that interesting; if you go back to the iTWire site itself ( http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/7682/1066/) you find it's the author of the article, Stan Beer, and not Hawking who comes up with the comparisons to TV science fiction shows ("Hawking has not said whether his vision is inspired by Firefly...") based, presumably, on some unspecified comments of Hawking -- perhaps a recent BBC interview written up here: http://www.forbes.com/2006/12/03/hawking-planets-space-face-cx_po_1201
autofacescan01.html
. Too bad; here I was thinking Hawking could be added to the Browncoats roster. Still, if Hawking's comments get people talking about Firefly, that's something.

SIRI

Does he have a website? Stephen Hawking, that is. Perhaps we could put a bug (Firefly variety) in his ear and see what he says. I once emailed Brian Green and asked him a question after watching his PBS Elegant Universe special. He responded in a couple of days.

"Well, they have guns."
