Evening all, long time lurker first time poster

Basically for my sound design course I'm re-doing the sound to 'The Message' (the opening five minutes that is) - this involves taking the audio off completely, and making new audio from scratch.

So, heres my offer - basically register your interest, tell me what part your going to be doing, and then send the audio files to andronicus1986 at hotmail dot com (alternatively, if theres a problem, let me know when you'll be online and we can transfer them through Messenger - I have Yahoo as well). If theres any problems post it here cause i'll be checking back every few days.

If you do this for me, then depending on where you are in the world I'll be able to swing some goodies your way (Either the Bedlam Bards CD or a blue sun T-shirt from the folks at Blue Moon stuff) after Christmas - I'm a poor student. If your somewhere far off (I.e. Australia) then it might take a little longer, and I'll also only be sending the goodies to those I use.

The only problem is this - I need it by Monday, Tuesday at the very latest. Deadlines Friday the 8th. I'm having to do all this rushing because the actors I had pulled in didnt learn the show, so they didnt sound right and the audio wasnt in sync enough (not enough that for me to change without distortion anyways).

Anywho feel free to fire questions at me!

As a further incentive, if I get them by Sunday, and there perfect quality (no hissing and such) then I'll send a Bedlam Bards CD and a Blue Moon t-shirt of your choice (or two t-shirts if you already have the CD).

Wowza! Well, I'm not sure if I can pull off any of the parts - maybe Kaylee - but I will sure try. I've got access to a studio, so the quality should be good if I can actually pull out some of my long-unused acting skills. It would be a lot easier to record with other people, though...
Anyway, I'll try my hand at a couple parts. I think I sound more like Kaylee than any of them, but it would be fun to try doing Zoe. Or River.
*wanders away, muttering about her food being problematic*

WOW! Its been posted ten minutes and someone turns up with access to studio kit - Uber cool I have to say.

Try doing it in reply to the actors from the show (i.e. if your doing Kaylee, use Simons audio to help you go off - if that makes sense).

Otherwise thats well cool. You've made a very stressed students day I have to say

If I can get my voice to do that 'impressions' thing it used to do, I might be able to do a couple of the female parts. I'll for sure get back to you on it!
*writes herself a note so she won't forget*
Glad to have made your day

A couple???

Hey if its more then one, I will make sure all manner of shiny comes your way because that seriously cuts the amount of work I need to do in half.

Oh also forgot to mention - I'll probably post the finished thing up on youtube (if it doesnt break the rules that is) and send the finished 5 minutes to the actors and actresses (thats if its plural! )

So hey, here's a question, do you want the voice actors to sound like the cast? Because my stepdad does professional vocals, but has a very deep voice. I don't know if he'd want to do one of the parts, but I could ask him, too.
I mean, not to cut anyone out that might also want to do it, but he does have extensive training and a studio, and there are nine parts to get in before Monday.
Anyway, I'll ask him once I get off work.

I make it 11 (EEK) -

The 'Ring master' ('
Simon and Kaylee
Zoe and Wash
Inara and Mal
Agnog the postie
River
Book
Jayne

Oh and its going to stop on 5:26 - where Jayne finishes the letter to round things out although if you can be persuaded to go through till the credits that'd be amazing (also lets me play the title sequence to and start converting more people to the cause).

As for sounding alike... well I'm mixed. As long as it looks like them saying it (so no deep baratones for Wash and River, and it syncs) then I'm more then happy for you to do a bit of your own thing or impersonate as you see fit. I trust in my fellow brown coats.

But, as I said before, i'd rather have too many then too little - mainly because anything that isnt done gets me (I have trouble talking normally never mind syncing with a script)

I bet he could do a good 'ring master'...

Anyway, yeah, I can't promise that, though, because I still have to get off work and stuff. But I, at least, will do everything I can. fiar warning, I have a bit of a sore throat, so I apologize ahead of time if I end up sounding off.

I'm giving it a serious pondering... Enlisting my daughter as well.

Does it need to synch well, or will you just be cutting it up and splicing it all anyway? Is it easier to work from a recording that is pretty well synched to start or do you just need a few seconds of break between lines?
I'm guessing you'd prefer each character have their own recording?
I've never done anything like this, so I'm guessing. A bit of guidance wouldn't be amiss.

Dunno how good any recording I might make will turn out. I don't have much in the way of recording gear.

Hey, I only got to talk to my stepdad briefly, but he said he could help me out this weekend when he has time off. Still not sure if he'll do any of them himself, but I'm fair certain I can do River and Kaylee, and possibly Zoe; can't get that to sound quite right, but I'm trying.
Anyway, message me your e-mail addy so I can get them sent when they're done, okay?

Hey

My email address is andronicus1986 at hotmail dot com, so feel free to send them through when there done :)

Sync is important, mainly due to the way certain people talk. Its hard to explain. The easiest way to do it is to be watching The Message while your recording so you can see the speed and such.

The sync doesnt have to be totally perfect, BUT I had an email yesterday from someone called californiakaylee and she syncs so close that I had to do next to no editing (leaving me more time to create all the sounds and music from hat sequence - a very meaty task!)

A few seconds break between each lot of lines is the ideal option (if they run into rach other it becomes a nightmare to cut).

Oh and I also need a recording of air. Only a minute. Basically use the same set up and conditions as you've been using when doing you voice, except record nothing except the sound of the room (sounds crazy but it helps me edit - it goes by a number of names such as room tone, ambient sound or buzz track, but one of these silly things will help me balance the different qualities out perfectly)

Hope that helps

Oh, CK is a sweetheart! I haven't seen enough of her around lately. Did she do Kaylee, then?

Yup kaylee... and river... and inara and zoe :D Syncs like a dream (my mate was extremely impressed).

However, I've started so I'll finish - Barring River, the voices sound fairly similar so a bit of choice would be nice (I've been meaning to email CK since I finished editing - it'll be later today before I get a chance to). If something comes up I wont complain; I'm safe from here on in, now its just making it better :D
