In light of this new development, the OB saying they're not accepting new discussions without warning and we dont know if we'll get it back, I'd like to just list a few places, in addition to Haken's shiny home, that have set up boards that are seldom used.

http://groups.msn.com/fireflychatters
This is my own site mostly for the live chatroom that is offered. It has been sleeping all this time but Ive kept it as a "just in case". You cannot access the chat without joining the community. This is to keep porn bots and spam bots out as much as I can. More info is readable on the community and dont panic if you cant access the chat immediately, I have to accept you so hold on because I check email at least once a day.

The unofficial board run by Allison. Its on the exact same platform as the OB so the same login should work. She also sometimes has a live chat room.

Good site with good board setup! Dont know who its run by.

mshowintheverse.msnw

Same setup as mine but run by GF.

There are others that Ive seen before but I cant seem to find them now. If you know of any others, add them to the list!

I assure you that I am also disappointed in the demise of the OB but I was just trying to be productive in rounding these options up for folks.

If one is looking for something EXACTLY like the OB, there is a board already set up for specifically Firefly. Check out the second link in the list.

So in short, bump!

*hems and haws*

aw, geez, I forgot all about that one.

But, but! It's cluttered!

*tries to think of other excuses*

;P

But thanks. I'm gonna sit back and let the bigwig OB'ers figger out where we're gonna settle, and I'll just flock.

Okay, since I can't start a new thread, I'll just say it here (even though I said that it should be up to you's all if any changes ought to be made):

New Community Format

As an OB'er, what I find un-user friendly is:

-No immediate direction to unread posts. I have to scroll through all the already read posts to find the new stuff.

-No permanent side menu where I can scroll through all unread posts, no matter how deep into a thread I am.

-The linear thread mode is great if I keep up with it daily, but unread posts get lost if I'm out of it for even a day, and I then have to search through each and every thread of interest to see if there were any new posts.

-this is extraneous luxury stuff: no "Unread High Interest" "Unread Messages To: Me" or Ignore functions.

What I don't like about most boards is having to backpage through folders to get to different discussions. I like having all the folders and their contents permanently displayed, rather than having to get back to the folders, then opening the folders and hoping that what I was looking for was in that folder.

I like that when I read a post, it no longer appears, thus clearing the clutter of the folders.

Those are my beefs with this and many boards.

But that's just me and my 2 cents.

I gotta disagree with about all of that concerning this board, I like the bulk of the navigation here. I hate that on the OB the messages go away to some unknown land after I read them. And a great thing on this board is that if you miss a day, you can read the linear thingy of messages for yesterdays or a few days back. Haken, please, please, please, don’t make this like the OB, I like the way things are set up here.

Oh, don't worry, I don't want Haken to change this board either. I know that you all are used to it. And we at the OB aren't. Which is a big reason why I don't want this to be our new home. A temporary one, yes and fine.

But see, that's the difference. You like yours. We (I) like ours.

Admittedly, the OB's search function sucks eggs for those older threads that have 'disappeared', but that's why I like the High Interest function.

And I didn't realize that there was a function here for searching older days for the linear function! Good to know.

Now it's time for me to *poof* and stop harassing y'all.

Please note I've set up a forum at http://fireflyshow.proboards2.com.

It's not Prospero-y, so it isn't exactly like that one, but it is a structure I find a little easier than the structure here.

yes that structure is good. Before I started on any of the Firefly boards, that was the type I was most familiar with.

Allison's board is currently set up to not actually post messages until they are reviewed. We've requested that she have this changed if possible and are waiting for a reply.

I heard from Allison tonight and heres what she had to say:

"I'll check on the Review mode and see what was there that triggered it.

If they're unable to log in, they either created an account previously
with
a different password, or they might have to register with Delphi
[again].

Nope, there is no limit on posts/members/bandwidth."

pass it on.
