Hey everyone, my first post on this board, and of course big FF fan. Just hopin' those DVD's make it to Reigon 2
Last week I found the script for the unfilmed ep "Dead or Alive". Would have made a pretty interesting episode
So does anyone know where exactly it would fit in terms of before and after which episodes?

ps. I can't stop watching that bit from "Serenity" when the ship secretly powers up and runs from the Alliance ship. The music is so freakin' cool

Hi there,

"Dead or Alive" was scrapped - it never made it to production (and not just because the show was cancelled). So, it doesn't *really* fit in anywhere - I think the popular theory is that, if it had been made, it would be around episode 4 to 6-ish. Because it was scrapped, a lot of the little character developments got put into other episodes - for example, River taking care of the kids got put into "Safe" where she's with Ruby.

It was sure an intereting read though! I wish we had more.

Welcome to the boards!

I read somewhere on here the script for Dead or Alive was sent back, then elements of the story were used in the writing of The Message.

So I imagine it would fit in somewhere nearby...

Hate to say it... But I liked "Dead or Alive," the script better than "The Message," the episode. Does that make me a bad browncoat?

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Me too. I thought the ethics were more ambiguous and so the characters were more complex.

I myself really liked the part with Simon treating a patient who would turn him and River in. Reminded me of a story I read once a barber in civil war Spain shaving a General who ordered the deaths of his family. He shaves him, thinking about cutting his throat with the razor, but doesn't. Finally he finishes, the General pays him, walks outside, and the barber walks out and blows his head off with a shotgun. The morale, cutting the Generals throat in the barber chair would have violated the barbers professional ethics.

Love that story...

Loved that bit too, especially the way it reads. Simon does not know whether he did or not. That has got to keep him (and Jayne) up nights.

Is it bad to like it when one of the heros has to deal with bad stuff?

"my kind of stupid"

I would have preferred they aired this episode instead of The Message as I felt that episode was poorly written with several plots holes. I love Firefly, but they really dropped the ball on that one. They probably didn't air Dead or Alive because Fox felt is was too morally ambiguous.

"Well, we're still flyin'."
"That's not much."
"It's enough." Malcolm Reynolds and Simon Tam - Serenity

Welcome to the board!

In honour of the Firefly DVDs, I've just bought myself a shiny new multi-region DVD player. So now I can buy the DVDs (gorram Fox permitting!) on Region 1.

If you're looking for a cheap but really excellent multi-region player, check out the Toshiba SD330. It's available on Amazon UK at the moment for the bargain price of £79.99!

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

Have to agree. I like some elements of the Message as far as the old war flashbacks & jaynes hat, but I really like Dead or Alive. Maybe when the series comes back (spoken like a true browncoat) they'll air that one. Anyway, tossin my two coins in.

Oh and welcome to the new browncoat. The shiny pleasure is all mine.

Mal: “See how I'm not punching him? I think I've grown!”
