Has Zoe ever called the Captain "Mal" to his face?

I can't seem to recall of any instance.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I'm pretty sure she has always called him "Sir" to his face and "The captain" when speaking of him to others. Except once in War Stories when she said "You mean Mal?"

Think harder. :) Think Jaynestown. Zoe to Mal:

"Mal, Bernoulli's chompin' at the bit. Says he wants his merchandise yesterday."

Cool. I guess there really is one example of everything in the series. ;)

Please don't flame me but if Mal was a Sargent in the war, I don't think Zoe would call him "Sir" easily. He works for a living. She might have made the switch to Captain but Sir wouldn't be so automatic.

Do you think Zoe was his Corporal?

I too love their relationship, especially her implicit trust in him and his decisions despite their different schools of thought.

They don't like it when you shoot at them. I worked that out for myself.

Sir might be more out of respect than as a title... but if he was a sergent there's no way she'd call him sir:)

I choose to rise instead of fall- U2

Hi rimgirl (nice name, btw),

In the Army it's customery to address your superior officer as "Sir". As in (Kaylee): "Yes Sir, Captain Tightpants." :)

EDIT: In a deleted scene from Serenity a display lists Zoe's military name as "Corporal Zoe Alleyne". So, as a Corporal, she would automatically call him "Sir", as a matter of protocol.
