"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Hi there Browncoats! I've bin around for a couple fo months now, and thought it was time I started a thread - albeit that I'm mighty busy an' all! (I will endeavor to jump in wherever I can, though!)

What I wanted to hear are stories about the influence you have on impressionable little people in your lives? I am a nanny and my 4 1/2 year old charge calls me 'Ah Mah' for nanny as her Mandarin-speaking mother used to call hers that - however I instigated the use of that term!!

She also sings the Firefly theme song without ever having seen an episode of it herself! She sometimes adds "...is all" when explaining herself to me as well!

Anyone hear our own 'Firefly-isms' coming out of the mouths of babes??

Lovin' y'all! - Magdalena x x x

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Can't say I have. I don't have many wee ones in my sphere of influence at the moment. That'd be shiny, though.

It is Phoenix Rose!! (How is that you're always on line - no matter what time I log on?) I just remembered that I showed my niece the episode 'Shindig' and when she heard someone say 'shiney' she said "Oh, that's where I get it from!"

My Dad says I have a lot to answer for!

Love you! - Mags x x x

*sheepish look, scuffs foot* I'm always on because I have no life. I'm always on when you are on because I work at night, which puts me in the US on basically the same schedule as you down under.

I get to blame my dad, since he bought the series first and is therefore why I saw it when I did. So when he says I'm a little scary obsessed I just point at him and say "Yor fault!" It's pretty funny.

I can blame my Dad for almost everything - since I'm so like him and all! One day my sister (who I always thought was from another planet to me) said in a pique of anger, "You are so much like Dad!" to which I replied, "thank you!" - she stormed out of the room yelling - That WASN"T meant to be a COMPLIMENT!!!!!"

Anyway - definitely not scary obsessed... just incredibly loyal!

Love ya! - Mags! x x

My kids will definitely be Firefly kids but I haven't been a great influence as of yet. My younger brother isn't exactly a "babe" (at 12) but I've got him singing the Fruity Oaty Bar song at the top of his voice now.

Mine is an evil sugar high laugh! Bwahahahaha!

LOL!! My little 'Su Che' (I know that's not how to spell 'Little Princess in Mandarin!!!???) can sing the Firefly theme song so well now that she just assumes everone knows it! She was very put out when her brothers didn't know the words the other day!

I am a bad influence... Isn't it terrific?

I have a seven year old boy. I have a subtle plan. I'll refuse to let him watch it, then he'll be sure to do so as soon as he's old enough to be left on his own.
Moms are sneaky.
Besides, I don't need him saying "Gorram" and swearing in Mandarin at school, somebody might understand him there.

Good point - I let my 'su che' watch 'Shindig' today - she loved the pretty dresses!! When the theme song came on she commented that "he sings it lower down than you!", but promptly joined in anyway...

Her mother's family do speak mandarin though...
