Okay, so at the behest of some other board posters, I purchased the complete Wonderfalls series on DVD and I have watched about 5 of the episodes so far. It is pretty enjoyable. Some thoughts:

1. The family is great. Especially the dad. I really like the actor that plays him. I have seen him in a number of movies and TV shows. He should be on TV more often. I also find it insanely amusing that their names are Darren, Karen, Sharon, Aaron and..... Jaye. Obviously done to make her the black sheep.

2. Did anyone notice that a lot of the characters are left handed? Jaye is left handed. Her therapist is left handed. I think Eric is left handed too.

3. Jaye's trailer is really funny. It DOES look like Genie's bottle.

4. I think the assistant manager guy with the deviated septum at Wonderfalls is hilarious. He absolutely cracks me up.

5. The muse idea is interesting. I watched one of the behind the scenes things and the creators were talking about whether the animals talking to Jaye are God or her inner voice. I guess from my point of view, I would prefer that the viewer never really know. What do other people think?

6. Everyone who went to high school with a girl like Jaye, raise you hand? I know I did.

7. Everyone who went to high school with a girl like Gretchen Speck from the episode "Pink Flamingos" raise your hand. I raised mine so fast I might have dislocated my shoulder.

8. Is it just me, or would hanging out with Jaye be a lot of fun, even though she is kind of depressing and negative?

9. I really like the theme song and opening credits. Does anyone have the entire song in mp3?

I am not finished with the whole series yet, but I would rate it a 7/10 so far. I think the networks seem to really shy away from these kinds of shows. Look at how many of these "some other or higher force is talking to me" shows have been canceled or been pushed back or put on hiatus lately.

I own 3 shows on DVD that I did not get as gifts (Firefly, Angel and Wonderfalls). I would rate this one third but a close third. Firefly is my favorite, Angel and then this one.

Overall, if you like very quirky dark comedies, this is probably a good bet.

Agree 100%. I believe in the commentaries for later episodes they make it clear that the muse was supposed to be God, but I think the intention was to leave that ambiguous.

She's smart, witty, wise for her age, and easy on the eyes. What's not to like?

There's a music video of the full version of the song (there's another verse and a break) on the DVD. Pretty good visuals to go along with the song, too.

It's possible to rip the sound track of the song from the DVD to mp3. If you can't find it elsewhere, let me know and I'll do that for you.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that by the time you finish the series you'll bump that rating up to an 8 or 9. For me it falls short of a 10 only because (a) nothing but Firefly gets that rating, and (b) it doesn't hold up to repeated viewings as well as Firefly -- or at least, it hasn't drawn me back again and again the way Firefly does.

I don't disagree on any particular point.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

While I haven't watched my Wonderfalls dvds as many times as I have for Firefly, I do like it a LOT, and just watched the first two episodes again last night. There are two eps I don't care for that much (Muffin Buffalo and Barrel Bear) but all the rest do stand up to repeated viewings. The third disc alone is worth the price of the whole set, and I too believe you will raise your rating of the show after seeing the rest.

ETA: It was always my impression that it was Jaye herself that was talking to her, her conscience that is, in an attempt to get her out of her shell, no matter how much she protested that she did not want that.

You can buy the whole MP3 at Itunes. I bought it a long time ago and I just checked they still have it. The demo starts with "we're bobbing along..." Ha Ha Ha Enjoy.

CLIOMUSE

I love Wonderfalls. It's a shame they didn't air more than four, out of order episodes, because it got even better as it went along.

When the DVDs came out we Netflixed them (can I use Netflixed as a verb?) to see the rest of the series. After we watched the first couple of episodes on the first disc, my husband looked a me and said. "Pack it up and send it back, and cancel the rest."

I looked at him in shock and horror, he had seemed to be enjoying them. He just grinned, got up, grabbed his coat and said. "Come on, we are going to Best Buy before they close."

America loves a winner!

I love Jaye's family too. Of the two, i prefer the character of Jaye's mom over her father. I like her acting, her look, and she's got some great lines.

I didn't notice that so many were Left handed. Interesting.

I REALLY like the ambiguity of who/what is behind the Muses. ( You can't talk! You don't have a larynx!! ) hee hee

When ever I see a girl which reminds me of her, even just in a small way , I can't help but think to myself ... ' Destroy Gretchen Speck!! (Oh, and I just found out, the actress who played Gretchen was also in a ep of SG-Atlantis ! cool )

I'm right w/ ya on this being up there w/ Firefly and Angel. I also own the John Doe series, and would personally put that up there too.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

The mom is funny too, I agree. "They said she had a sode which is short for episode.".

If you listen to the commentary on that episode, the creators mention that originally the script had that word spelled wrong. They had it spelled "larnyx" not "larynx".

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

I watched the show when it aired on Sky One over here in the UK.
I really liked it too - took a me a while to get into it, and some episodes I didn't like as much as others, but I still wouldn't mind buying the set. (I was waiting for the UK release, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen any time soon)

I liked the fact that the source of the voices was unknown - yes it was possibly God talking to her, but I think by not answering it, they left it open for interpretation.

One of the things I really liked about the series though was that it had an ending! It did seem a bit tacked on, but I was just so glad it didn't end on a cliffhanger with nothing resolved.

It deserved to go on for a bit longer, but I'm happy that at least we had an ending.

If you still want the Mp3 of the theme song btw (which is SOOOO damn catchy!) you can download it here: http://jossisahottie.com/wonderfalls/

www.savewonderfalls.com is a cool site too if you haven't seen it.

Oh... and I have a crush on Jaye
