Being the loyal Browncoat I am, I tried to arrange a charity screening of The Firefly Pilot and Serenity. But being as I don't have either the contacts or resources to arrange for a movie theatre to show the film, I figured I'd go local. So I tried to book time in the nearest library. They have a projector and rooms large enough to accommodate enough people. Everything was set up and booked all I needed to do was turn in the paperwork. Due to my lack of transportation I asked my friend to deliver the forms. Well I figured this would be no big deal. Wrong! Aparentally no money can change hands in the library. So disturbed as I was that they wouldn't do this for charity I offered to show the media not not for charity. Then I hit another snag. "Have you purchased a liscense to show the movie?" The librarian-type person asked. Unfortunately I am not a wealthy bussiness type person who can buy liscences to show movies on a whim. So I'm sorry to say tjey have stopped the signal in Ashburn. As of now the Ashburn Library is tied with Fox on my shit list.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

It's near impossible to set up a screening by yourself, and you should not be the one trying to contact Universal about rights. Here, this info was posted awhile ago. I bumped it up again, but I'm gonna paste it here, too.

It's been brought to my attention that, partially due to miscommunication on my part via the website, individual organizers are contacting Universal regarding film rights/rental for the June 23 charity screenings.

Please read this:

and also the website FAQ, which has been updated:

http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com/faq

It's vitally important that you have YOUR VENUE contact the Universal representative, and not do it yourself. If your venue balks at this, give them a copy of that first linked message so they understand what Universal is requesting of us.

Thanks.

Please spread word of this around, but if you do please make sure you get it correct. Heh.

I considered that but I got mixed signals and my "venue" rep was just rude.

Well, that is sad and icky and I'm sorry to hear it. I'd say maybe you just have to keep going after it. I haven't put one together myself, though. But I'm sure there's more than one venue you can look at. Take my state, for example. The screening is going to be in Denver, here. Now, in Denver there is the Gothic, the Ogden, the Bluebird, the Tivolli, and the Mayan theaters, and those are just the kinda indy ones I knew about. So where is the screening? A place I've never heard of that's not even on one of the main thoroughfares called the Bug Theater. No lie. I can't imagine how many reps and managers the Mile High Browncoats had to approach to get our screening. I'm sure they had to go after it for months because cantstoptheserenity.com had Denver listed as "pre-planning" for months.
So you're frustrated and no one will give you the time of day and nobody cares, but you're a Browncoat. You can't give up! Find allies, and all of you keep going after the theaters, all the theaters you can find, and you get yourself a screening in Ashburn! Dong ma?
They can't stop the signal.

Yeah that might work. They're a nice hole in the wall movie theatre.

Good luck!

Remember the screenings don't have to be in peak times. I've seen 10:00 a.m. and midnights
mentioned. And other days then Friday.

Did you check out the FAQ and yahoo group on
http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com

Some Browncoats are trying to arrange a screening in Richmond VA (USA)

This theater had a Serenity Screening in January 2006.

Arlington VA - Arlington Cinema N Drafthouse http://www.arlingtondrafthouse.com
