I never heard of Firefly until a few months ago when a class mate gave the 1st DVD to borrow. Now I've seen them all. My wife, who doesn't usually care for sci-fi, fell in love with the series. We're going to get the movie tomorrow.
We quit watching TV because most of what is shown sucks. This is the best thing to come out for a long time, and we want to see more of it. We've been showing it to other friends who've never even heard of it either, many also quit watching TV, though some have heard there is a movie called Serenity, but that's about it. They've all fallen in love too.
I found it amazing that they built the whole ship as a continuous set. That, and the back and forth about more TV, and/or movies, gave me an idea, sort of melding the two, since Firefly seems to like to be a melding of many things. Work on continuous series of varying lengths, take them straight to DVD, since most of us want to own it and watch it over and over, and there are it would seem more than 1 million fans. The episodes could be anywhere from 30min to 3 hrs or whatever.
If FOX, or Universal aren't game then take it elsewhere.
The question is who needs to be contacted? Joss? Fox? Universal? What other production organizations?
This has the potential to have what amounts to a few years of TV series air time story. And telling it all in full length movies just doesn't seem to fit. A big part of the stroy is them taking small jobs, Many of the "jobs" they take just wouldn't take a full feature length, or fit well into a feature, and some would. Let each part of the story dictate the length of it's "episode".

I've been reading lots of posts tonight. After seeing the last of what we had left to watch on the DVD's i just felt.... empty, left wanting more.
Lots of people have made lots of great points about the entertainment industry, and past (and current) story-universes, and made plenty of suggestions for how this tale could go on.
I hope that those involved with making Firefly hear of these ideas, and apply their own creativity.
It is this cast and crew that we all love, it is this cast and crew that worked so wonderfully well together.
My father in law always says that we must find "right work" and "right partnership" and it seems that was accomplished for this.

I do hope you see the movie soon. A lot of things are wrapped up in the movie but a lot are still left open ended and what occurs in Serenity opens up whole new realms that can be explored later. You're in for a rollercoaster ride when you do finally sit down and watch Serenity.

I think our best bets right now are straight to DVDs or mini-series on Sci-fi. Though as we Browncoats have proven before, anything is possible.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.
